Hi Don. Darn this makes me miss Columbus Motor Speedway. The grounds, the track, the atmosphere here is really amazingly close to my old home town track. CMS was demolished in 2016 to make room for a ruby field. I recall attending two ARCA races at the track, one in 1982 and the other in 1993. I say this all the time.....but no one captures the pits, racers and crew like you do. It's truly like you are there! Without a pit pass, a person really misses out. I know you would agree. Was interesting to hear RJ's feelings on dirt versus asphalt racing. I often do both ways on this topic. But I've landed on BOTH are equally hard to master. They are just different Don. I hope Flat Rock continues on for many, many more years. It looks like a fun place to watch races!

Thanks Chuck. Flat Rock has been around since 1953, the same year ARCA started. In fact, Flat Rock has been in the ARCA family since its inception. ARCA President Ron Drager still owns the track.

Great too see the Banjo Man again. Not many today understand what it's like to race the way that team does. Good too see the old guys hanging in there and still battling. It's hard to beat experience and knowledge. Thanks for another great story!

Great video HMM! I'm worried about what going to happen to all these small tracks across the country. There are no race tracks left in the state of Massachusetts. It's sad, thank God there's a track just over the border near Keene New Hampshire. Keep up the great work !

Wow, again ! Your videos are becoming like Fine Wine-" Improving" with age. I've never been to flat rock, my best friend of 52 years went often... Your videos capture so much,! They capture the Fan Experience, ( from walking thru pit gates, just walking thru the pits but with your heart for racing, your depth ( professionally & a fan) your dad's connection & yours growing up, You've posted leaving a track thru your head lights,small town America but because of your back ground you Are Trusted " by those in the sport for close up & personal videoing & interviews......That's Priceless!!!!! ( Well isn't it--??..!!) ( I've played music with Grammy Award Winners, Hall of Famers, local nobodies like myself & their respect allowing me on their stage Is an honor, & the respect from those who allow you into their lives - is an Honor..... Long May You Run.

Thanks for spotlighting a great local grassroots team, and great racetrack. My hometown track along with Toledo speedway. Have watched him race all year. Didn’t realize they were behind the 8 ball so much on equipment, helluva run in that car.

It was nice to catch up with RJ "the banjo man" again. It's impressive what he and the crew are able to do with a car that is 22 years old. I'm sure there have been MANY changes that have occurred and been allowed to improve that class of cars over the years. RJ seems like a very nice young man who can represent his sponsors and team in a nice way. I assume the banjo music you use in some of your videos is material you've recorded with RJ.)
@HistoryMysteryMan5 ай бұрын
Yeah...I hope RJ gets more opportunity down the road. His dad has taken him about as far as he can go with his budget. Some of the banjo music I use is RJ's...and some of it is whatever Final Cut Pro (video editor) provides as stock. Thanks again! HMM

Another interesting video! I always liked the asphalt super lates. Here for many years we had the old OSCAAR series which I often watched at tracks like Cayuga, Peterborough and Flamboro. Now we have the Ontario Super Late Models which I haven't really followed that closely. Car counts aren't the best and I'm not sure now, but years a go many of the races were crash-fests, so that might have contributed to the series' current struggles. Interesting profile on the Cornett family. They run on such a shoestring budget it;s unbelievable they run as good as they do. I guess knowledge and determination (plus it appears the young man can really drive) can go a long way. I always thought one of the most unfair things about racing is that the driver who runs up front in the best car gets more attention, respect and support than the guy who brings one of the oldest and lowest budget cars home mid-pack or some nights in the top 5. I can definitely empathize with the Cornett family. Hopefully R.J. can get in some top notch equipment one day. It also hit home how Royce said his son is a better driver than him and more interestingly explained why he should be a better driver. Maybe it's my racer's ego, but I always wondered how much better would have been if I started in Karts at age 8 instead of full size cars at 23 and also if I came from a racing family that could have helped and mentored me more. For sure the 2nd, 3rd etc. generation racers do have an advantage. Lastly I do agree with R.J. I think asphalt racing is tougher, at least going by couple years I ran pavement. Asphalt racing is very precise, you have to hit your marks almost exactly to be fast and it's much harder to find the limit and to save a loose car. On dirt you can run multiple lines and if you mess up on entry you can often still salvage a good lap. I also found it's much easier to find the limit on dirt. I all my years racing dirt I can count on one hand the times I spun out on my own. On asphalt it was a much more frequent experience, although ancient tires on my car and ill-handling cars when I drove for another guy probably contributed.
