Scales on mandolin are so much fun. No irregular third like a guitar!

The opening lick to Smokey Robinson.s "My Girl" is simply the pentatonic scale! That's how I can remember it. I got sunshine, on a cloudy day........

Thank you very much. Just picked up a mandolin impulsively yesterday. I've been playing guitar for maybe 6-7 years and honestly I never really practiced scales on that, but something tells me I'm going to want to with this.

I just gave my mandolin a first tune I bought along with a violin months ago, which I just gave a first tune as well. I am looking forward to playing both using this simple scale as you pointed out. Who knows how long those two instruments would be sitting behind my amp if I hadn't watched this video!

I noticed you play "The Gibson." I know nothing about those instruments; I do know my cousin has collected The Gibson instruments for many years. He has every instrument made during the 1911 to 1926 period except four. He has all the Mandolins in that series. I'm not sure if I have the correct time period. My information comes from memory listening to he and others talk about the instruments. I have seen all of his collection and each one is beautiful. He is interested in selling his collection. Have no idea about price. He is 77 years old and collected many years. I enjoy your videos!!

He has 40 instruments, asking $1,500 each. You would have to see them to really appreciate them. I heard him say many of them are worth two or three times that, or more.. It's a pleasure to look at them. Larry Cordle called and was suppose to come look at them, but his wife got sick and he couldn't make it. I also wanted to ask if you are related to "Old Joe Clark" banjo playing comedian at Renfro Valley, Kentucky. He and I were close friends. He was a hoot! Thank you for your response and your videos.

OK, so I can play that scale on mandolin or guitar. But it's missing a C note. My instinct is to land on a C note when the song changes to a C chord, but that isn't in the pentatonic scale. Help please?

Maybe it's just me, but I thought this lesson was incredibly rushed and you didn't explain which fingers to use and you added stuff that wasn't on the tab. I would have preferred a much slower lesson with which fingers to use and sticking to the tab on screen only. I found it confusing and way too fast.
@4Naturalgreen3 күн бұрын
When demonstrating to beginners, you gotta go slow. We all know you can play it fast but we don’t need you to. It helps if you demonstrate slowly.
