This is not new. To extend my marriage visa I have had to show my entire bank statement for 1 year and bank book with a bank letter confirming balances. Has been this way since 2018.

This already happens in effect. Every extension, I deliver and deposit with Immigration, a letter from my bank stating my account balance, a statement for the last 3 months, and a copy of all pages in the last year of my bank book.

Absolutely, but the application form we all fill in down at the immigration office hasn't required that information - at best this is a tidying up exercise, at worst further plans are in train. Always wondered what happened to that hard copy once the officer has entered it into his computer anyway - and who also gets to read it!

Even if the Thai government does nothing with this information now, the fact that they are asking for it suggests they have plans to use this data in the future.

Why a letter? When applying for my marriage extension of visa, copies of my bank book (every page) with bank details and account number are submitted along with the original. Plus a personalized letter from the holding branch with again, name, account numbers, deposits, as well as a 2 month printed statement, verified and stamp by the bank for official purposes. If it'd for immigration computer records whycant 5h3y just copy down the details from the bank letter? Why is there so much emphasis on increased paper workload?

There is no good intention from this development, but it's good to hear you realising what was stated here many months ago regarding the WEF and Thailand's membership. This is part of capital flight restrictions from the west. Tax and the general cost of living in the west, is going to get very painful, far more than already. They know those that can flee will do, and so they will stop your capital fleeing, too. When CBDCs roll out, they too will not be transferable, again using capital flight as the excuse. Only the very wealthy with hard taxed wealth will be able to relocate. Most westerner pensioner farang types will have no option but to return.

Here for 22 years, Non B, Marriage, and now Retirement Visa. With each one each time Phuket immigration mandated a one-year Bank statement, a registered letter notarized by the bank stating that it was real, and they checked the length of seasoning in the account to prevent from borrowing to meet requirements. With the marriage and sometimes retirement visa to come to your house, they require pictures of you and your house with different clothing. Should have gone to the provinces it sounds like, would have been a breeze!

Extending a retirement visa requires bank statement and letter, similar to what this video mentions.

What annoys me is the statement letter. I am told by NBLP immigration that the letter must be dated the same day I go to the immigration office. This turns a trip to immigration into a double visit: first to the bank, then to immigration, all on the same day.

@@jasonjenson9108rather than going to the mall branch, I just go to the smaller branch down the street that opens at 830am. Last time I was the only customer there and was in/out in about 10 minutes.

@@jasonjenson9108 i just can’t see how a Statement letter a week earlier makes that big of a difference. If they are looking at a whole 2 months or a year’s or data, 1 week of data change is just not that big of a deal. For next year, Bangkok bank says it wiuld take 7 business days to get the letter from the head office, which means then I have to try to time it exactly right.

@@dreadlord76 are you sure they mean the letter and not the statement? These are two different docs. One of it is valid longer for sure. I just don't remember which one, I suppose the 12 month statement.

Jomtien (Pattaya) immigration have always requested a letter from the bank officially stating your balance, plus 12 month transaction history for OA Visa renewal. Someone else told me they do not provide nor have been asked for the transaction records, but I have specifically been asked so I always provide it. From memory the transaction history requirement only began when they clamped down on the requirement to have 800k in the bank for (practically) most of the year.

Of course it will be more and more control, if they do not use the immigration as a controlunit, also passport at the borders and AOT, the changes in the tax rules will not be effective at all! RD has been working many years to get info from Immigration.

I have an O-A retirement visa for 5 years now and I have used the immigration offices in Udon Thani and Nong Bua Lamphu, both have always wanted the last 12 months of my bank statements as proof of the 800,000 baht deposit, which must show it was there for the first 3 months after my extension, no less than 400,000 baht for the next 6 months and back to 800,000 baht for the three months before I apply for my new visa extension. Also I need a letter from my bank verifying my current bank balance and a show them my bank book with the total in the account that matches the amount on the bank letter, so I get the letter and update my bank book on the day I’m going to extend my O-A visa. This is nothing new for me. However I have never seen the form that Ben showed from the Roi Et immigration office.

I was able to find bits and pieces regarding US Citizen Vs US National, but not from a Professional/Lawyer's perspective. I am a US National (corrected my status)...Can you please break down the pros and cons on this topic between Citizen and National? What are the benefits of National doing business overseas? Thank you Benjamin.

I wonder wether I need to do an international bank transfer with 800k in order to apply for the visa extension or is it ok with smaller cash transfers during my travels from my home country 🤔

Late comment. Governments outside Thailand, including Western states wishing to reduce capital flight, have prodded Thailand into more scrutiny of all finances, most particularly of non Thais. But the non Thai states did not cause this trend nor are they the biggest force. Governments, including Thailand, do it, and do it more, just because they can and they want to. They don't need other reasons although they are happy to use the nefarious hegemonic West as an excuse. When they smell power and money, they go after it to the extent they can. Modern electronic finances have opened a huge extent, and they will use it. Each case will differ a little in who the state goes after, in what order, how fast, and how hard. The rich and powerful will be impacted least. Nothing new or perniciously Western here. Let's hope we can live with it, somewhere.

Hi, sounds like a Roi-et thing only, Does this document have a proper number, eg, TM 47, 7 etc? Cant see any official Government Header as well. It looks like an immigration officer is pushing for promotion by coming up with a form of their own for Roi-et office only. Why would yo need this when all that info is already given for a visa extension renewal. Thiland immigration is well known for operating independent of their main office and doing their own thing, even IMOs in one office. For me, water off a ducks back, a bit like all the Hoo-Haa over this new tax law. Thailand is also well know for " shoot first and ask questions later" When you get reports from all over Thailand confirming this policy, then I will take notice, however, until then I wont be loosing any sleep over any of this latest mis information.

They should. I lived in Thailand for 6 and 1 half years. After I moved away I Have had expat people brag about how they have visa agents get them false bank statements when they have no money in a Thai bank account to get their retirement extensions. You agree with that?

I have to show it for my retirement Visa. Just have an account solely for your extension, it isn't against the law forbidding you from having another account in a separate bank. Better than having all the man bun, and dreadlock gang mooching of of everyone.
