Hi Anusha, I think you may be referring to treasury bills. In order to buy treasury bills or bonds, you have to go through a primary dealer. CAL is one of the primary dealers.

First of all Sri Lanka is a bankrupt country. No investor willing to invest in SL. Sri Lankan stock market is a highly speculative. Investments are highly risky. Not recommended for investing in SL. .

However, with unit trusts, you can invest in treasury bills and bonds with a smaller amount of money. Additionally, many unit trust debt securities products primarily invest in treasury bills and bonds. Also with the debt restructuring stuff, you can't expect government securities are 100% risk free :)

කොටස් වෙළඳපළේ ආයෝජනය කරලා තියෙන ඒකක භාර ගිණුම්වල වෙළඳපළ අගය පහත යන්න පුළුවන් . නමුත් ණය සුරැකුම්පත් වල ආයෝජනය කර තිබෙන ඒකක භාරවල වෙළඳපල අගය පහත යන්න පුළුවන් සම්භාවිතාවය අඩුයි. And yes, this is a good investment if you have some excess cash. It is better to invest in Money Market unit trust products rather than keeping the cash in bank saving accounts.

Hahaha, usually unit trust funds are approved and monitored by the security exchange commission of Sri Lanka. It is not a pyramid scheme

Comparison with Saving and FD ,unit trusts - money market are good . But most of unit trust couldn't able to beat inflation . 96% of Equity based funds couldn't able to beat index historically in USA. No means to talk in Srilanka.

Hi, thank you for your comment. I believe you might be comparing the current interest rates to last year's hyperinflation numbers. I have come across articles where investment experts suggest that they are not directly comparable as these hyperinflation numbers are unusual. Taking the example of Sri Lanka, the current inflation rate is around 1% year-on-year in October 2023, whereas you can potentially achieve around 15% from a unit trust money market fund. Regarding the U.S. market, my understanding is that the recent increase in U.S. federal treasury rates was aimed at controlling inflation. Historically, the U.S. has had lower interest rates, which is why many U.S. investments are made outside the country, unless they involve stocks. This is my understanding. What do you mean by New Scam? Unit Trust is an approved investment vehicle which is approved & monitored by Security Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka. I agree that currently Sri Lankan economy is not doing well but there are always opportunities bro. www.sec.gov.lk/unit-trust-2/
