I think it's wonderful you are doing these experiments and sharing the data. 170 year old technology vs 80 year old tech. Compound super-turbo systems were around on the big radials engines of WWII. Not to detract from this awesomeness. The simple fact is, even though wheel has been round for millenia, that doesn't make it obsolete. And just cause the blowers are old ideas, doesn't mean they can't be refined. I'm glad you're out there grinding it out Gale!

I have figured out the same thing about blowers and the screw type 30 years ago, when I was looking for blowers for my rotary engine inventions. The Whipple is way better because of the built in compression ratio. And therefore much less pulsation. That is why they are more efficient. Also the Whipple / Turbo configuration is the best of all worlds.

15:40 Gale is talking about boost pressure of GMC-type Roots blowers on 2-stroke diesels. I downloaded an SAE tech paper on the EMD 567 engine from 1951, authored by E. W. Kettering. It did have a graph of boost pressure vs rpm. On the EMD 567, blower pressure maxed out at about 8 psi and 900 rpm. I assume that Detroit Diesels operate similarly, since they were born concurrently with the EMD engine at GM Research in the 1930's.
