Ireland has a similar law banning specifically 50.cals because the IRA used a couple smuggled from the USA in the 2000's. Ironically you can buy rifles under .50cal and rifles over .50cal, just not specifically .50cal. Fun fact, the European equivalent of .416 barret is .460 steyr, its very very similar to .50 cal in terms of ballistics and was created for exactly the same reason.

My understanding about the .416 ( and yes, I heard about it ~10 years ago, first time on Future Weapons, IIRC ) was that it was designed specifically for extreme long-range precision anti-personnel use, not as a response to the 50 BMG ban. They specifically wanted a round that could stay supersonic past 2000m, thus the early focus on slimmer, lower drag bullets.

Recoil is from the equation force equals mass multiplied by acceleration. Both the bullet mass and the propellant mass. At typical rifle muzzle pressure, the exit velocity is 4500 to 6000 feet per second. And roughly half that mass isn't moving significantly until the bullet leaves the barrel. That is how a muzzle brake works. It reduces generated recoil from propellant gas and uses it to counter bullet mass recoil.

Also the the .416 (3150fps) has more speed than the .50bmg (2820fps) so when the .416 hit the watermelon it was moving so fast it doesn't have the stopping power needed to make it explode the 50BMG on the other hand moves slower and is heavier so it has the stopping power that would make the watermelon explode on contact due to the rapid tranfer of energy

I don't think there would be much left of the hog once the round hits.

so for all intents and purposes, not only did we get a riffle round superior to the 50 bmg, but one that is also legal for california residents to own? love to see it

They’re on all the time. Doesn’t mean the video is monetized. YT can play an ad an keep all the revenue from it.

The .416 Barrett is one of my favorites because it surpasses the lethality of the. 50 BMG and at 4500 feet it hits harder than a .44 MAG at only 25 feet!!! So perhaps all of us shooting enthusiasts should actually thank the governator for being so paranoid. ROTFLMFAO Keep up the awesome videos!!!👍👍👍
