You're advocating for people to become involved locally? I've been covering local government for the past year - I'm the only one in attendance. I managed to get a councilor, a council president, a city manager, and the chief of police to resign in rapid succession after asking simple questions, such as - is it appropriate that the council president (who is not only married but also a school teacher) be flirting with the mayor during open session; when the city manager states their efforts were to rebuild the police department - instead of assuming she meant it would be one with integrity (over 2 decades of scandals and corruption), the correct question to her statement should be - a department with integrity or one which is more capable of hiding corruption? City hall not your thing, too cool for school boredom, I mean board, be a court room watcher - 2 days a month for a year, especially family court - watch men get castrated in the open without anesthesia! Not to mock those who suffer and belittle such ordeals, get in there, take notes, after their case has been heard, ask one or both parties simple questions about the process. Get to know the staff and do the same. Politics may be downstream of culture, but it's most felt local.

@@Poisonedblade I've been posting both in the comments when I can and of the actions I've observed in these institutions (I was booted off of Nextdoor for posting coverage, now only on Rumble, but my focus has recently been providing information - specifically books people want/should read but haven't the time); my goal is 1. motivate those who have the confidence and the competence (or be able to gain it) to go in these arenas and become some form of reporter, 2. If someone is near me and wants to know how to do it - I'd show them; TLDR, just attend, take notes, highlight things that grab your attention and learn what they are, be willing to recognize that people in and out of government want to talk (maybe not everyone, and certainly not as freely as when they're on duty). I had an individual spot me in a coffee shop and spent an hour discussing both the pro and con things happening at that point in time.
