Banquet brand originated in Moberly, Missouri in 1953 as part of FM Stamper Co. I worked there in their quality test lab during Junior college, around 1956. At that time, they made pot pies, frozen dinners, boxes of fried chicken, some dinners and some fruit pies. This was before microwaves, so they were cooked in your oven which is so much better. They were in foil containers. The company started with whole chickens and did all the processing. They had an assembly plant in Kirksville, missouri, where it was all put together and frozen. we were sent samples directly off the lines, which were rigorously checked for bacteria, ecoli and moisture content. They also produced rendered chicken fat which was shipped to the Netherlands for the baking industry and powdered egg whites, which were used in cake mixes. When they sold to ConAgra in 1980, the quality and taste suffered. They sent more samples than needed and we employees got the excess. I ate a lot of pot pies in those days. I am now 86 and hate what has happened to the brand, but still eat the occasional pot pie.

Example: The _Cheesy Loaded Potatoes With Angus Beef Frozen Meal_ says, "We've tricked out this bad boy. We roast and season the potatoes up right. We add hunks of angus beef, queso and applewood smoked bacon. And just when you think it's maxed out, we melt on the cheese. Get a load of that..."

But now as a chronically ill person with a GI disorder, I too sometimes just need a frozen meal due to exhaustion and am always on the hunt for ones that taste good & won’t kill my guts. There aren’t many lol but Amy’s enchiladas, frozen fried chicken chunks from most brands - but not nuggets!, Ling Ling gyoza/potstickers (boil instead of micro, but quick & easy), and frozen puff pastry appetizers if I take like 3 dairy pills & eat perfectly for the day before & after lol…

@@standdownrobots_ihaveoldglory I never ate frozen meals growing up, but frozen foods like chicken or potatoes taste amazing out of an airfryer, and aren't that much more expensive than their raw varieties. I also have an airfryer with a quite large cooking area so I can make them all at once. There are some I believe you'd enjoy much more. The mega meal chicken and mac and cheese (not the bowl) have the best chicken I've had in a frozen dinner. The chicken fieta mega bowl is also very good. The chicken has no breading and doesn't get mushy.

Different microwaves require different times. I only realized somewhat recently that my microwave is a lower wattage than the average meal assumes you have, so I have to add about 30 seconds or so to each thing I microwave at the very least.
@paleoberdАй бұрын
My personal go-to mega bowl is the dynamite penne with meatballs, nothing with breaded chicken because it just gets so soggy
@bryanmoberg8408Ай бұрын
for the chicken/mashed potato bowl I'll use toss in some extra cheese as well, makes a huge difference. Some salt/pepper, and maybe a little butter in the mashed potatoes and corn in the backyard bbq also helps a lot. I love both when it comes to cheap simple dinners. And I've found the pizza soup works better as a dip than by itself, kind of like the pizza dip Ian did a couple years ago. Pair it with some chips or garlic bread/breadsticks or something and it makes a lot more sense.

Theres a 2 piece chicken and mashed potatoes meal. Its awesome when you can get them for $4. But the chicken one is sometimes $6.99. A box of frozen banquet chicken sells for $16.99 around here, so theres some perspective.
