oh man I am SO glad I'm seeing this comment again. After reading it, "marinara sauce [marinara sauce]" lived rent-free in my brain for DAYS, if not weeks. the square brackets are truly the perfect way to capture the edit. I said "marinara sauce" so many times, and each time, I thought back to those square brackets. And then, having gone on a deep BrutalMoose dive, I couldn't remember where I had seen the comment to go back and thank you for [marinara sauce], and then - as all fever dreams eventually do - it passed, the compulsion subsided; once the need to compulsively say "marinara sauce" to myself 10x a day faded, so too did my thinking in [square brackets]. But time is a flat circle and I'm back on these videos again, and there - like a wave from an old friend across the room in a crowded train station - was your comment. Thank you, dear sir/madam, for "marinara sauce [marinara sauce]" 🙏

@PunakiviAddikti3 жыл бұрын
You know how it is, it's what form the sodium is in. If it's bound to something else, it's going to taste different. Think fiber. It's long strings of glucose bound together, which is why it doesn't taste sweet and can't be used for energy. You have to break down the long chains to turn it into glucose, a type of sugar.

I know that Ian's not interested in trying to continue with these frozen meals, but for other people who are like me that don't have the energy/mental focus to actually, ya know, cook and live mainly on these things: Pay close attention to the instruction's wattage. Most meals are for 1100W/1000W, but a lot of cheap microwaves are 700/800. So if yours is a lower wattage, nuke the meal for longer (30 sec at a time until it looks consumable, remember to stir!). If you're at higher elevation, give an extra 30 seconds regardless. Adjusting for wattage/elevation will help a lot with meals like the chicken parm so they are not nearly as jelly-ish/watery and (maybe!) even have a hint of crispiness. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go cry.

@@Azrael_Garou that’s almost certainly not the accessibility issue they’re referring to, so consider yourself lucky that you haven’t had to deal with the choice of spending hours wrangling your brain into just being able to put together a meal, or having to order takeout slash get accustomed to a few non-crap frozen meals so you can do anything else with your day. I’m pretty sure everyone here would _prefer_ to cook all their meals if they had the time and energy and mental focus. But that’s actually kinda a big if. The thought that Ian only eats when he does these videos fills me with a visceral sadness I cannot describe
@somerandomgoblin25833 жыл бұрын
Don't worry- typically, he only needs to feed every 6 to 8 months, as is typical of his species. Even then, in emergency, he is able to subsist off of nutrients from the soil for a good while. :)

I haven't been watching THAT long but know what you mean - there was a strong "no, no.. What the FUCK!?" in another video of his that gets me every time. Mightve been the beef enchiladas or something. "You can't sell this shit and call it a fucking fiesta" and such 🤣

There's a level of animosity that Ian is beginning to have towards these frozen meals😂 "Somebody fuckin END ME already"
@Goldenkitten13 жыл бұрын
Honestly perhaps a little TOO much. I've seen this happen a few times, perhaps the biggest example I can think of is Ashens. Where he started "reviewing" foods but quickly realized people just preferred him ripping them a new one and started going so far the other direction that you had to roll your eyes. Like, maybe you didn't enjoy it but nobody actually believes it's the equivalent of sucking on the anal drippings of a cows fistula and I fear Ian is headed down that same path.
@arcadestickgaming66013 жыл бұрын
@@Goldenkitten1 nah these frozen meals deserve this type of anger😂😂 there is no way that they should be allowed to legally sell shit like this
@Goldenkitten13 жыл бұрын
@@arcadestickgaming6601 Meh I prefer his usual humor (sticking hilarious editing into what would otherwise be a pretty basic video) as opposed to him exaggerating how bad something is. Like, are frozen foods feats of culinary wonder? No, of course not. But they're fine for convenience sake or cheap eats. So watching someone over-exaggerate their reaction, acting as if they just ingested a century egg covered in durian comes across as trying TOO hard to get laughs.
@arcadestickgaming66013 жыл бұрын
@@Goldenkitten1 no the reactions are appropriate. A lot of these frozen foods are REALLY gross. Like he said in other food reviews, he hasnt touched frozen foods consistently, so going BACK to them probably makes him wonder "how the FUCK did I eat this crap WILLINGLY for so long?" And its funny, so ya might as well film it.
@Goldenkitten13 жыл бұрын
@@arcadestickgaming6601 You're free to have your opinion. But shitty frozen meals do not compare to some truly bad foods I've had. They're mediocre at best and tasteless mechanically separated meat at worst. So watching someone act like they're on fear factor eating food millions of people do every day just makes it feel milked for likes.

I found your channel long ago, and have watched on and off, but now that I’m terminally ill, I spend basically all day in bed. So I found your stuff on my recommended and began rewatching the old brutal foods and new, and my dad (who is my caretaker) began joining in and surprisingly enough really enjoys your videos as well! He even quotes your videos now hahaha, it’s really nice to have a “thing” with my dad in this way, bcs usually he’s pretty critical about KZbinrs.. but I guess when it comes to food youtube he’s more open, because I’ve been showing him lots of different channels that I refound from before I was dying. So Ian if you’re seeing this, please keep it up with the food videos! You have a cancer kid and her cool dad waiting excitedly for new uploads!

Chronic illness, especially with a terminal condition, is always such an ordeal. My empathy/commiserations for being bedbound too, that stuff is waaaay harder than people who’ve never gone through it really understand. Hey random internet stranger, I hope that you’re holding up well, my grandmother was in a similar position and her and I bonded over Ian’s videos because she loved seeing how he cooked and how wrong he did things (Ian this comes to you with the utmost respect and love, your videos have gotten me through depressive and suicidal episodes). She’s since passed but I know that she loved the goofy shit I showed her in terms of cooking since she was absolutely the best. Hoping and praying that you do your best.
