I like big, heavy handhelds, the UV-25 reminds me of the Motorolas from the old days, great for communications as well as a weapon if needed. 😂

I bought one of these and I love it. 70cm are the dominant repeaters around me so serendipity baby. As far as radios go, there's always a trade off somewhere. So just do some homework. Like all multiband radios, there's always a sacrifice somewhere. When you ask one antenna to do the job of three bands there's always a loss somewhere. I like the big size and pretty decent battery longevity along with the screen. Yes, I know that there is that tacticool Baofeng AR152. Basically, it's just a UV5R that slipped past quality control and the Johnny Combat look is getting old IMHO. BTW, all versions of the UV25 (Max, L, etc) are all the same radio. It's just marketing.

Hi, I don't understand much English, but it clears my doubts, on the website where I'm looking to buy there are 3 ads, one for the normal uv-25 version says it has 5-10w for 40 dollars, and another ad for the uv-25 L and pro version It says it has 15-25w for 60 dollars. And all the same buy the cheapest uv-25 for 40 dollars? or the versatile L and pro and even higher?

I recently purchased a TYT TH UV8000D radio for about 60 Euros. It is advertised as a 10w radio with crossband capability. I tested my radio on a dummy load. On 2m the output was spot on, 10w. On 70cm the output was 8,5w. Perfectly acceptable. Of course you can also reduce power to 5w. If you use 10w you may want to consider using an external antenna. 10w so close to the brain may not be a good idea. On another YT video a TYT TH UV8000D was put on a spectrum analyzer. No spurious emissions were detected on into tht Ghz range. I don't own a spectrum analyzer and cannot test my own radio. The radio itself is compact like most other HT's. The radio is not full-duplex, but the crossband feature seems to work okay. All in all, not bad for 60 Euros.

Just as an FYI, replacement BL-UV25 batteries are listed as 8800 mAh. I found this to be consistent across several sources and, given the size and weight of the battery, I'm inclined to believe this is correct and that sources listing 2800 mAh are a misprint.
@TOM-CCC
@TOM-CCC 4 ай бұрын
I know the reason for this is that the batteries delivered from China cannot exceed 100wh. So in order to smooth shipping, they lowered the label of battery capacity.

My Anytone AT-D878UVII radio is much smaller, and has a 3100 Mah battery. I do like a larger size radio though. They feel much tougher built, and more substantial in your hand. They also don't look like toys to radio muggles. That lends credibility to the radio.

Using the included USB Cable. installed the driver and is working in device manager. Get this error in CHIRP when trying to "Download from radio": UV-17 or UV-17PRO both give error: "Error Readering data from the radio: Not the amount of data we want."Cable is new and came with the unit. Connection is pushed all the way in. Anyone know how to fix?!
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I believe the issue you are having is that the included cable with the normal USB A end and the USB C end is for charging only. You still need a programming cable plugged into the mic and speaker ports (K1 connector). I got the same error with the charging cable. A programming cable came up with a different port in Device Manager and when selected, worked fine with Chirp. I ususally use an FTDI cable. Link here: amzn.to/3RcjDp6

Thanks for the video. Bigger doesn't mean better. It's a basic radio with a super heavy large battery, which should be double the rating for its size. I think I'll never buy one. Thanks for the info and demo.👍

Strange! When Knoxieman tested (time 16,20) H it showed 9.7 - 10 watts on the SW-102 meter (Surecom) how can it make so much difference? L 2,6w and M 5,2w Very grateful for answers as I am thinking of buying Baofeng UV-9R Plus or BAOFENG UV25 pro max, Which one seems to be best for prepper and not for daily carry or long hikes. Thanks from Sweden :)
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 5 ай бұрын
The power output difference is likely due to quality control. I've seen differences between reviewers myself. Also it could be due to what frequency is being used. That sometimes makes a difference, too. As for the radio choice, I like the smaller form factor even if you're not carrying it around.

The chance of there being an actual 50 watt version, besides in the imagination of some copy editor is zero. Does 50 watts radiating next to your brain sound even remotely safe? To answer your question, no.

Things change so I don't know. A good indicator is that if it isn't sold by a US seller, it may not be. You can also search the FCC database.

@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 5 ай бұрын
I've found that Baofeng radios are released to various parts of the world at different times and sometimes only to one area or another. There isn't really an official Baofeng website, but rather several. All don't have the same products. That is especially true in the US, where FCC certification requirements sometimes means radios are delayed and other times means they don't get released to US sellers at all. This is especially true of radios on Ali Express.
