I can't believe that you are holding the radio by the antenna. That is bad for the radio. Just taking the antenna off and on is not good but holding it by the antenna is terrible.

and yet, it still works perfectly. Obviously you don't understand how antennas and radios work.

@@TheNotaRubicon I have damaged radios that way. The connection from the antenna to the radio can come loose and I have had that happen. Your radio will not receive or transmit as well if you keep doing that. I have had these radios since the mid 80s and I know what I'm talking about. Through normal wear and tear, an antenna can become kinked or broken. Another way antenna can become damaged is if users pick the radio up by the antenna. This can cause damage at the connection point to the radio.

Well radio reference website is dead. Those moderators banned so many members that it killed the hobby off let alone what technology did. Those moderators did not contribute to keeping the radio hobby alive instead they killed it off by not offering any kind of assistance or information. No technical support. The salespeople in the stores always said go to that website because the salepeople didn't know a thing about the radio hobby they were just into the marketing aspect of it. So now radio reference is just a mere shell of its self. It serves them well. 🤣🤣😂🤣

When i change the mode (frequency/channel) or switch the channel it always resets to TXR-power = High. I want low as a default setting for all channels and frequencies. Been enjoying your videos for a while now. The best part is your tone. These are just toys for an otherwise useless hobby. I understand they would be the final communication tool when the apocalypse hits - so, go ahead, have fun, keep it running. But at this point in human civilization everybody carries a radio, sans license, that can communicate around the world. I own a Baofeng AND a full ham radio but don't have nor need a license. Should the occasion ever require the use of either devices, having a license will be the bottom of anything anyone cares about. TL;DR - hams, your close to useless hobby does not deserve the dead serious behavior you all seem to want to push. It is no longer the pre 1970's - lighten up.

There are about 5 states that you can be arrested in for having this radio in your car. You are exempt if you are an amateur radio operator like me. However, if the police don't know about the exemption you are screwed. I was arrested in Kentucky. They towed my car and went through all my stuff. I had to go to court where all charges were dropped when I showed the judge the exemption in the law. Did I get an apology from the police? No.

You can expand the standard UV5R VHF to 125-250 MHz (177-187 MHz locks up during transmit) and UHF to 376-520 MHz with reasonable performance on the extended range.

I've owned one of these for a while now and just recently bought a second to gift to my father for our excursions. Upon setting up the new one I noticed my older one isn't receiving a signal from the new one. The old one can transmit to the new one, but it can't hear anything from the new one nor does it hear anything when you hold the monitor button. Any ideas?

Either there is a tone set on the one that isnt receiving, or the new one is locked and cant transmit on the specific frequency you are using... Or, its broken/defective..

Thanks for the quick reply. I just watched your video on how to unlock one and tried it on my old one and now it works! Thanks!@@TheNotaRubicon

My radio won’t let me change the setting on menu option 11. I’ve done it plenty of times following your instructions but it keeps the CT there.
