I just purchased my first UV-5R after watching many of your videos (which I love). Came in today and the battery charger just flashes red and green when it’s plugged in, with it without the radio in it. I reached out to the company and they said, “This is not a model we sell or support.” Juusssst Lovely.

I disabled Tx and recieve CTCS on my radio, but EVERYONE I wheel with, with FRS radios have just stock, off the shelf radios and they can all hear each other. So... Is there like a chart for what privacy freq or tone to set for each channel? 🤷 Also, using channel mode, saving CTCS options to off for both TX and RX doesn't save. Keeps a freq set to the channel.

what is the differene between CB radio frequencies and GMRS? if CB radio is different, then whats the difference between using a mobile CB vs Mobile GMRS radio?
@TheNotaRubicon
@TheNotaRubicon 11 ай бұрын
CB radio operates at a much MUCH lower frequency, meaning you need a much larger antenna to transmit distances as far as GMRS can transmit. CB is limited to around 5 watts, while GMRS can transmit at up to 50 watts. CB radio has historically transmitted in AM, while GMRS has always been FM, meaning that GMRS has a more clear signal.

Depending on how the rules are written that may or may not make it legal, but you would want an 'attenuator' to do that.

This is just an opinion: "NOT legal advice".... People, BUY the BF 5R, and whatever HAM band transceivers you like.. Do a LITTLE bit of research (Radio Reference (website)) to see what frequencies are being used in your area / the area you are wanting to communicate in, and don't use any of the known / used freqs. There is a HUGE amount of unused feqs in the HAM band! NOBODY is going to mess with any of you... Do you see a single question @ Amazon checkout which requires you to input your HAM lic/cert info?? Yes, and NO... Nobody will know you are on the band unless you call the FCC and turn yourself in.. AND, it IS doubtful they would even send someone to monitor it even IF you gave them the dates, time and maybe even the address you were transmitting from. HAM has its uses, especially in real emergencies... However, there aren't just 40 channels like in a CB unit, or the walkie talkies that are popular.. You're welcome to GTS it if you doubt what I am saying. With all of the digital communications (online and off) today, HAM is mostly dying. ALL you need to do is to tune into the web streams of countless HAM repeaters / ham clubs to realize this. Sometimes, there isn't even a reply to the callouts. I will NEVER sell my handhelds, but if the "apocalypse" were to hit, and we lost power and sunlight (for solar battery backups) the true LONG range HAM stations will be DOWN soon thereafter. The "elitists" are part of the problem with HAM.. Yes, they dumbed it down so you don't have to do morse code fany longer to get your 'transmission permit'.. HOWEVER, I was listening in on the net when Hurricane Ian hit, and I was truly DISGUSTED at the old timers talking crap to people who were trying to ID, were scared and missing (breaking up) the info, and getting ADMONISHED for the way they were transmitting / communicating. For any of you "old timers" who may read this. Get current with the barriers to entry. Otherwise, you will simply be a nice (and legit) page in the history books. Massive amounts of GEO and LEO Satellites are rendering HAM useless, especially for SARS.

Got my first UV-5R in the mail last night, I like your videos over all others, very useful, easy to listen to, and you are comical which makes the watching experience even better. Take my subscription.

Finally someone on youtube with clear instructions using radios. Thank you. Question: What type of radio is the TYT TH-UV88, HAM or GMRS? Is it similar to the UV-5R?

Yes...i do have a question for you. If 'someone' accidently grabbed the wrong radio and talked on a Baufeng uv5r that was programed in the GMRS frequency range,,,can anyone actually tell the difference if its a Baufeng uv5r or a true GMRS? Btw...thanks for all t he good videos.

@SilentWatcher594 - if you so much as even think about transmitting on a UV-5R on a non-ham freq the FCC will show up immediately and seize everything you own, including the neighbors cat!

My gosh, I love your videos. Makes me so happy. So, I was stationed in San Diego for 13 years. Me and some other servicemen liked to take people hiking further inland. We used these Baofengs having zero licenses , but used the maritime channel, thinking, inland, it’s probably alright.

So if I use my set "2" Uniden radios It's ok. But if I program my Baofeng to the same fequency it's illegal?

If you read the manual you need to have a license for those radios also.

Please guide me on how I can set up both of them as walkie-talkies. I bought two UV-5R headsets, and I want to use them privately to talk during the road trip. Please tell me which MHz or channel I should choose. If you have any details about it, send me a link or refer me to a setup guide.

I have had a Baofeng UV-82III for about six months and entered frequencies manually for that time after watching this video. Received a programming cable two days ago and installed Chirp on a PC. At this point I can say that manually programming will be a last resort after experiencing Chirp. The ease of programming and the features you have with Chirp that are not available via manual programming make it a no brainer.

Thanks for your assistance. I have Baofeng UV-82 radios. I have had people try to program my radios with the cable and CHIRP software. Two have failed in their attempts. Your assistance with frequencies of Channels will now allow me to talk to friends with their channel programs. I cannot thank you enough. I am in awe. I was even able to work out other settings through the menu.
