From the Amazon Baofeng store, the fix is in: What BAOFENG FIXED in the latest stock? Support CHIRP. Problem: CTCSS/DCS was activated when open the box. FIXED. Now CTCSS/DCS is OFF in factory setting. Problem: All channels were set to narrow-band. FIXED. They're wide-band now (except CH8-CH14). Problem: The screw on the programming port is hard to remove, but easy to be lost. Done. A spare screw is added into the package, there are total two screws for users now. They still seem like a great deal.

I just got 2 of these this week and love them so far. Super easy to program with chirp and they seem to be right on the money. Havent had a chance to test it in the field yet. I did have one issue. I wasnt receiving any transmissions on one of them and found the antenna needed tightened about a quarter turn and it fixed that.

Randy, you are truly an "influencer". After watching Parts 1,2, and 3 of your review of the Baofeng UV-9G, I went to Amazon and got one. When I got the radio, and liberated it from it's box, and assembled it, I was pleased to see that Baofeng indeed addressed the nits you picked on. Like you, I believe this radio is the best GMRS handheld on the market. I have Baofeng GT-3TP''s Baofeng C11S's and now the UV-9G. The 9G is now my favorite sexy redhead radio.

Hey Randy. Thanks for these videos. As a newbie you are helping me get up and running. Have you seen the Baofeng GMRS-9R? It is an updated version of the UV-9G. I picked one up as my first radio and I love it. It seems to address almost all of your nits (except for the aftermarket antennae I think) and it has a better battery to boot. Keep up the good work!

When I worked for a radio shop, the /\/\otorola programming cables had a thumb screw to attach to the radio. That said, when we were cloning a fleet of radios, it was faster to just hold it in place while the codeplug was dumped in. I usually only attached when reading, modifying then re-writing the radio codeplug. I was also thinking a small rare earth magnet glued to the programming cable screw hole may hold it depending on the material of the radio side nut. Love the videos! Keep 'em coming.

I purchased the UV-9G on June 6th. The Amazon advertisement said they had fixed all your “nit picks” less the antenna issue (though the new NA-771G fit just fine .). However, a major disappointment is that the FM feature that’s in their manual and shows on screen (press SK1 ) does not work. I intended to use the radio for hiking, camping, kayaking, etc. and being able to listen to local radio stations without carrying a second radio for this purpose is important to me (and I’m certain to many other outdoor enthusiast.). After hours of frustration and research I finally received an email from the manufacturers customer service department. They said due to global chip shortages they were not able to include the FM chip and they’re glad that I understand their position for lying and misrepresenting their product. And of course I have already ordered cigarette lighter adapter antenna extra batteries and other accoutrements. Anyways I just wanted to point out the companies misrepresentation of this feature and let you know that your issues during the review have been rectified. They even have your KZbin reviews on the Amazon sellers site. ✌️

Randy, I looked around and came to the same conclusion you did about the Baofeng UV-9G. I bought a pair and they have already fixed the ctcss tones, programming cable screw and chirp compatibility. I was able to use chirp to program all the uhf and vhf channels I want to scan, all the repeaters in the areas I travel around in the South West, and get all my personal preferences customized in less than an hour. I have some whip antennas coming in today. I'll let you know if they fixed that as well! Great radio, really enjoying GMRS with my family. Thanks for the good info! YES! The Nagoya antena now fits without any modification! The power button still does not change the power level. Will check for an updated firmware since Baofeng says on their website they plan to fix this for 2022. I can't wait!

WOW ! I never expected a wah-wah video about this radio ! I purchased this radio a few days ago (arriving tomorrow) right after watching your video and STILL looking forward to it arriving. I have learned a lot watching your videos, one of them is I actually learned how to program the Baofeng from the screen. (Not too difficult at all) What is very confusing as we both know, that these radios do not come pre-program with the eight repeater tones you need/ want in your area, that is very unlikely, actually impossible, With that said no matter what the tones are set at when you recieve the radio, , you still have to go into the radio to set the in/ out tones. As far as the narrow / wideband setting, as long as your programming the ctcss tones programming the wide/ narrow will probably take you an additional 1.5 seconds if that.... The video was a good promo for your upcoming Thursday night Net though.. Mike D WRMM242

Anything that helps Baofeng sort out their bugs is a god send, its a revolution for radios for users that the tech is affordable and accessible. I got interested just looking for a comms system to use on adventure motorbike riding in remote areas. Bluetooth sena units just have too short a range and cant talk to other road vehicle traffic.........but these radio's have so many applications its daunting.

If you want the Antenna to fit, you gotta use some spit.... but just on the Tip. Not sure why, but this is becoming my favorite channel... Had a HAM license for 20 years, used it for maybe the first two, renewed once and then about 7 years ago it expired. Now I have to take the test again to get my HAM license back, but bought my GMRS license today... Have no idea why as there is no one to talk to on GMRS in my area, meaning no repeaters anywhere close, and Don't have time or money to hang out with friends and Crawl anymore, because i have a three year old...Sounds like Zello is my next stop... But this channel has gotten me geeked out again about little black boxes with buttons and antenna....Keep up the great content...

I got a Ham and GMRS licensed about the same time less than a year ago and tinkering with both since there are many repeaters of both types in my area. Great review! I also like this radio! I also noticed the PITA cable screw and the 771 antenna fail. Did you notice also that the CPS will NOT let you skip the NOAA stations at the bottom during scanning? i mean its not the end of the world but when i'm scanning it stops EVERY time on the same NOAA station and i have to manually skip over it to begin the scan again...to end up right back on that NOAA station.. i'm with you. Great radio BF! almost knocked it out of the park on this one. Great video. Thanks

That's annoying. Truly. Definitely the biggest of the nitpick items. One of my Ham radios allows scanning of NOAA along with others but will only pause on them if NOAA is broadcasting an extreme weather alert warning on that channel. Great feature that would be great on this radio too. But, I'm with you, I do NOT want it stopping on the NOAA channels as there's three of them around me it'd stop on every time. That's a long delay between scanning even if the delay time is set low.

I agree it's bad design of the way the programming cable "hooks" onto the radio that is not secure unless you transplant the screw over. Would have been great if they used a small magnet in the programming cable so it will stay attached. I guess for now a strong rubber band should be ok. Heck, you can probably use a Velcro strap! Seems too easy if the screw was already installed on the programming cable?

Being an owner of 2 😙 of the 🐖 version (UV-9R +), which "appears" to have the same radio case! I will attest that the antenna mounting "hole" is kinda small. Even though the factory, Commercial grade, antenna is really good... when I purchased and tried a Nagoya antenna. It's FAT little base coil, is to big to fit into the mounting "hole"! BUT, the EXPERT POWER brand antennas, DO FIT. They have a slightly smaller loading coil, that will fit into the hole. I will state the the 7.5 inch antenna seemed to preform better than the 11 inch antenna! Weird but just my results on my 2m / 440 mhz. Radio. I hope this helps avoid spending countless time and money, searching for a hopeful antenna upgrade!

I appreciate your reviews and information. YOU are my favorite KZbinr who talks about GMRS radios with floating hams. I have a question...I would like to use this radio in our race car so I plan to attach a wired antenna. Based on your observation with the hole being too small, what would you suggest in this case? Perhaps the end of a wired antenna is not as beefy as the nagoya?? Thoughts sir?

Ordered from your link and received it last week. They must have listened, because the cts (whatever) and narrow band aren't set on mine.

Just picked up one of these. They are now shipping it with no ctcs codes and all channels are wide band. Haven’t tried programming yet.

Good video❗️I am sure glad you made this video❗️❗️now that I am retired, old and worn-out, contrary, cantankerous, and extremely impatient this would not be the radio for me. I need something that I can just take out of the box, charge the battery and turn it on and use it. I don’t care what it cost, what do I need❓🤔

Mike, you make a fantastic point. Crikey, I remember when TV'S had just 4 knobs on the front (and only the lower right was used) It just worked. So here's the thing. There are people who have spent the time to work out how to make this thing hum. Team up somehow. As in make them an offer they want to accept. As you say - you don't care what it costs.

Thanks for bringing awareness on Sultan Sea. Novice question: what’s the difference between UV-9G, UV-9S or UV-9R? Can’t they all do the same thing? Impossible to find any information. So thought I’d ask you for help. Thanks I’m advance.

I agree that all of those things are annoying, but I'm still looking forward to getting them. All of those things are fixable (but still annoying). Having to mod the antennas is not ideal, but I had the same issue with the UV-S9 Plus.

I was about to order these tonight, but as I'm totally new to this and this video definitely have me pause. If your new you kind of need it to just work, I don't know anything about programming it yet. That really sucks that they did this.

My nit picks, I don’t like the swivel belt clip. And mine is only putting out a max of 3.6 watts on high. And for some reason, I cannot get it to receive any weather frequencies. They are pre programmed, but will barley open the squelch enough to receive. Even with squelch set to 1.

This radio is actually only FCC certified for 3W, even though it's being advertised as a 5W radio. Sounds like another GMRS-V1 type of radio. ;)
