Your information is great - when you finally get your shit together and stop with the repeated (and failed) attempts at being funny. But your presentation absolutely SUCKS. Cut the piss-poor attempts at comedy (you're NOT good at it at all, dude - sorry, but as Joe Friday used to say, "just the facts") and get to the damned point already! We get that you like (or at least, that you're getting paid to pretend you like) the radio - but you only make yourself look like an idiot (Hmmm... perhaps that's your fetish/goal - hadn't thought of that possibility) when you do the stupid "let's pause for a moment to pretend it's my ol' lady's tit" thing every third sentence or so. Gawd... so much pre-teen level cringe out of a grown man... who'd have thought it possible? So far, the vids of yours I've watched have put a bad taste in my mouth - bad enough that even though I WAS sitting on the fence but leaning hard toward buying a Baofeng radio of some sort - just looking around for more info to decide on exactly which one, after watching the vids you've made pertaining to Baofengs, I'm MUCH less inclined to do business with the company specifically BECAUSE of your videos about their products. Not because you've told me they're bad, but because your presentation and lousy attempts at comedy have left me with an impression of "If the company is going to sink so low as to hire this obnoxiously cringey ass-clown to flog their product, how can it possibly be worth even scrap price, let alone whatever the retail price is?" After watching this video, I bought a UV9G. I was expecting to find the extra screws for the attachments, but there were none. A trip to the hardware store did not yield a proper sized screw, so I ordered a set of different sizes, I found that the m2,5 fit perfectly. I hope this helps some of your viewers. The happy ham.

I got mine yesterday. The big issues are fixed. They also fixed the ability to "skip" the NOAA channels in the scan. 1. Yay, it's fixed! 2. Yay, it's fixed. 3. Yay, it's fixed. 4. Power setting via the # key. Not fixed yet. 5. Tight hole, Not fixed yet. 6. The screw they send is not the same. 7. Not on Chirp yet. 8. Still in RAR format but 7-Zip is free.

Update on the UV-9G. I just received my copy today and it included the extra screw for the programming cable, the factory programming has been fixed, and it’s a tight squeeze but the Nagoya NA771G will screw in with some effort and works fine. Even the factory supplied antenna is a tight fit. BUT, the # key still doesn’t toggle the power level like the manual says, it only locks the keypad.

I got my UV9G last week. I noted that: - no second screw yet - CHIRP is now supported - the bug that did not allow the NOAA channels be skipped while scanning was fixed. -CTSS/DCS codes have been removed - wide band channels are now wide band

Thank you Randy for the great video and for prompting Baofeng to make the described improvments (most of which were incorporated into my recently purchased UV-9Gs). As mentioned in the comments below, still unable to change transmitting power with the # key or reverse repeater shift with short press of scan.. The software downloads at Baofeng were still RARs as of late April 2022. Regardless, still a great radio for the price!

Since owning a UV-9G for a month, It's a pretty good radio. However, The battery keeps coming out too easy and it's questionable if I can find a OEM battery that properly fits the radio. Another thing to is that sometimes the DCS or CTCSS seeking on the UV-9G doesn't really work 90% of the time unless I'm doing something wrong. But overall, if you have a battery that does fit the radio. It's a good buy for $40 for the beginner or hobbyist's.

@@chrissewell1608 I've always switched out the stock antennas on every ham and gmrs HT that I've purchased - which is quite a few. I've had excellent performance from the Expert Power 7" antennas. If those fit, I think the plastic molding is a non-issue, just go with one of those, they are not expensive. Personally, the 15" antenna versions are a "pain in the bi-" as Randy would say, unless you're just leaving the radio on a desk.

I purchased 2 UV-9Gs based on your recommendation and it appears that they have changed the antenna. The newer antenna is wider at the base with an orange stripe around it. Maybe this indicates a redesign that fixes the compatibility issue with other antenna?

That's enough butt kissing for now, here's a question i have- page 12 of the 9G Bible, number 15 MENU in the off state press and hold this key to turn on the radio...I did but it didn't. Could you withhold your Maurer long enough to explain WTF that really means? And I can't get out of channel mode even though that same paragraph says pressing the menu key switches between channel and frequency modes. Any help is appreciated, thank you 9:20

I am new at GMRS BAOFENG UV-9G, how do i listen to FM radio on this handheld, what channel do i set it on to check if its in my new radio. You could probably use a knife or moto-tool to trim the plastic around the antenna, so you can attach an antenna with a bigger base, but you would probably not have a water-proof radio thereafter. There is probably a 'water-proof' seal in that area. You will need to decide which IP rating you want to retain.

Ordered last week. Manufacturer date on the radio is 4/2022 I can confirm all changes are on in. HOWEVER the antenna is different. Mine came with an orange O ring recessed I thought it was for looks but when installed the ring fits exactly on the top of the radio which makes me think it's part of the waterproofing. So the question is, if this is correct would an aftermarket antenna affect the waterproof rating?

Randy, I really enjoy your videos, the info you provided on the UV-9g is great! One thing bough when you tested the output it was around 3.5-4 watts. The said they were going to fix the issues you talked about but did not address the wattage issue. Also I and many others would like to know when the updated radios will be for sale in the U.S. Any time frame from hem?

For the antenna issue, and I don't own the radio yet, could you put a sma male/female coupler on? This would raise it out of the molding. I know there would be some loss.

I would worry less about the (negligible) loss on the connector (many sad-hams obsess about the 0.000000001% signal loss from a coupler) but would be more concerned with the higher SWR from moving the antenna further from the radio - also probably only a small amount - but yes an an adaptor would probably work.

Great video. I have a question. I read in a review that someone was complaining about the radio not actually being 5w and that the radio was FCC listed as 3.5w (or something of the sort). The review question got a response from Baofeng and they mentioned something about the 3.5w rating because at the time the battery was not powerful enough for 5w. My question is: Could a stronger battery be installed to increase the watts? For example, the UV-9R+ has 2500maH replacement batteries available. Could that radio be installed on the UV-9G (according to Baofeng, they are compatible). I am currently waiting on my UV-9G's to be shipped and I do not have a power tester yet.... Supply>Demand...

Just received my Baofeng UV-9G. Presumably "new inventory", regarding your 8 gripes: 1. The CTCSS/DTS tones have indeed been removed. 2. High power and Wideband are defaulted except for channels 8-14 of course. 3. DIY channels are still set the same as described in your original video. 4. Power mode setting via # button still doesn't work. 5. Antenna hole still too small for a NA-771G, though the antenna that shipped with mine is not the thick "Rubber Duckie" one in your video, it looks more like a Nagoya NA-701G, just with a narrower base that fits in the hole. 6. No extra screw for programming cable. 7 & 8. I didn't download the Baofeng software.

You are what some call a KZbin influencer. My new UV-9G arrived yesterday with plastic shavings in the antenna hole. So, it appears they have reamed out that antenna hole too. The Nagoya antenna fits, it's snug but it fits without modification. Pound key still does not change power though.
