I have the MKII and love them. The only downside is the loss of the treads when your wheeling buddy hits the accelerator while rolling on them....but there are several good videos on how to replace those treads with some bolts and washers. I am not sure about that winch line and rope end....although Yankum Ropes does have a grooved fairlead which would not require the winch widget. Nice video!

I like the Yankum Ropes groove fairlead. It protects from scraping the rope loop, too!

Yeah the Lites are cool. Those are fairly new and came out before this video. It was pretty wild cuz I got a chance to see them before they came out. I'm in the panhandle!

Or just use 13/16 sae wrench/ socket, if you don't have a 21mm., if not 7/8 might work? By "flags" on the mounting pins do you mean the key hole flange(slimmer side)?

Yeah man the thing is so easy to put on. Easiest is adjustable wrench if you don't have 21 or any SAE that fits. And yes, the key hole flange. I heard maxtrax call them flags when I went on a trip with them so that's what I referred to them as.

@@BaptismOverland sounds like their trying to have a propriety names for patents and such. If you haven't tried plier wrench, that will change your game, especially self recovery, overlanding, 4x4 etc...

I had two mk2’s with the correct pins. I then added the xtreme pair and the original pins don’t work. I had to spend another $60 for the hybrid setup. 😢

Yes because the XTreme pins make it taller.

Yep. Check out the video I did on hitting Moab with Maxtrax guys. They hired me to do a video for them. Learned a LOT about their products and company after hanging out with Paul (who used to oversee Maxtrax operations etc). He's the one that gave me the lowdown on why I needed the hybrid pins lolol

Asia, honestly I have never seen Maxtrax actually work. Both in person and on videos, they seem to take much more work than hooking up a recovery rope or winch. Can you show us them being used in the real world making real recovery?

Yes. Once I get stuck! Lol. I've seen them work in Moab. I don't have it on video but we've used them. That one footage in the sand, we got stuck on purpose and made sure we couldn't move at all and we got out with them

Honestly I wouldn't know but I've seen comparisons with X Bull. For me, MT is the original and have been doing it a long time. I don't have a point of reference to compare as I don't own the others but I think there's a reason MT gets copied all the time lol

You should see the recent video where I brought up gate keeping. I hate it as much as you do. BELIEVE ME. I'm prepared at all times. If you watch the video on recovery I did after this one, I have a plan of action from least dangerous to most dangerous. First recovery board, then snatch if that doesn't work then winch as last resort. That's not at all gatekeeping. Would you bust out a riding lawn mower for a patch of grass that's only 6x6'? 😂 Obv not. Boards will get you out of a lot of situations before you go to more invasive tactics. Doesn't mean a winch isn't needed.

@@cruzinthruspace taking an RTT off and on is a way diff experience than boards. Lolol. Also I never said don't drive around with the boards...I just prefer not to because I want to protect them from the elements if I could. In fact I take off a lot of the things I CAN when daily driving...Waterport, boards, shovels...and even my awning when it was lighter (using quick release mounts fr Front Runner). I call it "boring mode" lololol Thanks for watching! And it's all good!! We're just ribbing here.

@@cruzinthruspace that being said...I've kept my recovery gear on a lot during the summer because I live by the beach. People get stuck and I'll sometimes drive up and down and offer to free them much less than calling a tow truck. Easy money and helped pay for my gear

Yes. And for me I think recovery is def important vs, say, a stove or nicer wheels etc Lolol. Recovery is the one area I wouldn't wanna skimp.

Its all a marketing gimmick. Make them at home. Get some 2 x 4 boards, drive several boxes of nails thru them. Make sure to keep a spare tire handy, or some fix a flat.
