Looking in our bucket of useful scrap, there is some black pipe. To turn that into a hook idea, I will also use some round bar and a short piece of flat stock to make a large swivel hook

Wow John my arm is tired just watching. That is a real sturdy hook. As a beginner back yard blacksmith I don't think I will be putting that particular hook on my to do list, but thanks so much for showing us all the techniques associated with making it. Cool video shots too. Now how can we sneak into your shop to add more junk to the bucket so you won't run out of material for Hook of the Week?

+1 for the rotating overhead view at 3:57, pretty much what I had envisioned when you did the 360 camera video. You almost had some "This Old Tony" magic at 10:56 as well. Thanks for the videos and inspiration, I got my 120lb Fisher anvil and stump sorted out and now I just need to build a forge. I've made 1 hook so far at another blacksmith's shop, you make it look a lot easier.

Even though it's a bit odd ball as you state...I find it pretty much a most useful thing for cords n hoses. Perhaps the most useful hook to date for the heavy duty aplications. Great idea, thank you for sharing! 🙏Blessed day sirSir, Crawford out 🧙‍♂️

Odd ball, yes. But usefull that it can be swivelled out of the way when not in use. I can feel myself bumping into the hook when empty but not folded out of the way, quite apart from the hook hooking when it shouldn't.

Most hobby Blacksmiths do not have a power hammer so can’t learn from the videos when you use one, please take this into consideration when including a power hammer in your videos.
@BlackBearForge
@BlackBearForge 5 жыл бұрын
I find this to be a sad statement. The power hammer really makes my life easier, but everything I can do with the power hammer can be done by hand if you are willing (and young enough) to do the work. Even if this particular project is more than you can take on, there is still much to be learned about iron work and how iron moves whether it is being moved by hand, press or power hammer. The number of hobbyists with power hammers and presses are increasing and those folks like to see the occasional video on how they might use their new tools. If people don't learn from a video simply because there was a power hammer used to save an hours worth of hand work, then its because they chose not to learn. You will still find that the majority of my videos don't use the power hammer.

Here's an idea: cutting the pipe in 2 o 3 equal pieces to make them swivel on the round rod, making the rod the stationary piece, and welding hooks to the pipes for a 2 to 3 swivel hooks for coats or something like that.
