Very nice video. Fun to watch the 21 do some gravel bars. Very pretty area to fly.

Nice flying! That 2nd landing got a bit sporty. Keep the videos coming

It certainly did. Locked brakes and deep sand are a no no. I could’ve landed quite a bit shorter with a 3 point but the tail is too low and I don’t trust it with all the gravel. So I wheel land it unless it’s 100% sand or nice grass.

What engine do you have - a 340 or a Rotax?

Great video, thanks ! What cruise speeds and fuel burns do you get with the 915 ?
@Captndarty Жыл бұрын
Normal cruise is 7gph which yields 115kts at 6,000 and 130kts above 14,000. Normally when I’m tooling around for fun I burn 5gph at about 100kts.

With the 915iS, I'm curious if you're burning MOGAS or AVGAS. I'm building a very similar 915 equipped S21 to yours (in fact I saw yours in person the day before you were scheduled to pick it up!). TIA

I mostly burn Avgas now. In the beginning I was going to the gas pump and filling up 5 gal cans with 91 non oxy gas. shoulder pressing 4 to 6 36 pound gas cans on a high wing has lost its luster. Ever more so doing the whole process when it’s below zero. I also used to do 94 UL at the airport but that’s turned out to be more expensive than 100LL and much less used and the gas is more likely to be bad. I also fly pretty high and high-octane works much better at high altitudes. The 100 hour oil change interval, with non-low leaded is a joke in my opinion. I started changing every 50 hours regardless on the fuel type. Lastly, the new Rotax XPS fully synthetic oil has properties to break down lead and is safe to use. If I’m going on a trip and need to top off I use my 91 I have it in the hanger. All that being said I would like to build 120 gallon fuel cart with a pump and hose on a trailer and then I would likely start using 91 for local flying.

i put a fuel tank in the bed of my truck with a hose. so much better than 5 gal cans.@@Captndarty

Wow ! Very inspiring! I’m just on the verge of ordering an S-21 kit . Rotax of some sort. I’m wondering if the airplane gets abused by the gravel . Prop , belly , tail dents and chips ?

Oops , asked that question before I saw the end of your video …. Maybe a little PPF to some parts .

….and thats what the ABW was designed for! That second landing was pretty sketchy!

It was for sure. Fortunately lessons learned without incident.
