Saint Francis of Assisi lived during the later part of the 12th and early part of the 13th century. He was called by Our Savior to rebuild His Church. Which Saint Francis of Assisi first did literally to Church buildings. Relatively soon he came to realize rebuilding was meant to be done in terms of striving towards being a humble full disciple of Our Savior as an example for all. He was the first Church reformer, patiently reforming The Church, The Christian Church, from within; as opposed to what all transpired from without The Church, The Christian Church, some three centuries after the life of Saint Francis of Assisi. Look at the dates, Protestantism "reformation" from without The Church, The Christian Church, wasn't even a thing back in the 13th century... The Church, The Christian Church, endured. The Church, The Christian Church, is what I suppose you, that is, you personally, would perhaps now call The Catholic Christian Church or The Catholic Church. Please remember, "Catholic" means "Universal"... So, vis-à-vis your line of reasoning, which seems to be Protestantism, of course "St. Francis is Catholic"... However, what else was there but The Church, The Christian Church, The Universal Christian Church, and Christianity, in the 13th century? NT Therefore if you trace back through time to the 13th century, Saint Francis of Assisi is definitely Christian; which may or may not fit your line of reasoning... ― Pax et Bonum (Peace and The Good)

Dont believe in God but I minored in theology and love this movie. Think jesus and the saints like francis are really inspirations for how to go against the grain of society and live a good life that helps animals, the poor and other marginalized people.

Two young and beautiful and passionate people feeling the joy of Creation - how not to include or exude, how to preclude and exclude, how not to let intrude ... sexuality? I think they manage it. A miracle or sign in and of itself... "I think you were mad before", says she. Not now when he chases butterflies and looks at flowers. God bless(ed) St Francis and St Clare. Only 2 years ago did I realise I had been baptised on the Feast of St Francis. I have been a nature-lover since the age of 4, a conservationist, and someone who trained in biology and ecology. I also look at flowers. God is kind.

Die vollständig auf Deutsch synchronisierte Version dieses Filmes schenkte mir mal ein Freund als VHS-Kassette. Er hat eine exzellente Symbolik. Seitdem sah ich ihn mir schon unzählige Male mit oder ohne Gästen an und übersetzte den englischen Liedtext neulich ins Deutsche (gereimt und singbar) und Spanische.

Graham Faulkner (whose name derives from falconer after those who fly falcons) was born on September 26th 1947, which was the day of Saints Damian and Cosmas. Judy Bowker was born on 6th April 1954 - the Feast of St. Maria Crescentia Höss, who was ... a Member of the Third Order of Saint Francis - the one that was wordly and open to married men and women, unlike the First (Franciscan Friars) or the Second Order (nuns of the Order of ... St Clare). Singer Donovan's date of birth was on the Feast of Saint Damien - that was a Belgian guy called Jozef who in religion took the name of Damien, presumably after the first Saint Damian... He was a nurser of lepers, just as Saint Francis was. Zeffirelli was born in Florence on February 12 1923 - the feast of Saint Buonfiglio Monaldo, also from Florence, associated with Montesenario.

I am a biologist/ecologist and a believer I science, but who was Born Again in Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, on 28-2-21. I first became a "mini-biologist" aged 4! But only last year did I realise that my parents had unknowingly had me baptised on ... The Feast of St Francis! The Holy Spirit gave me the gift to love nature from the very start. Now I see many signs in nature too. So it's my story as well. God bless and keep St Francis!

It IS a beautifully photographed film, and Donovan's musical score is wonderful...but the story the movie tells is NOT historically accurate, unfortunately. 😢
