Not fame her self destructive behavior was the reason... That was happened because she had a lot of psychological problems (demons) mostly it came from family I think, a lot of people have the same issues the only difference is that they are not famous

@@maxipazz8214 he didn’t do that much lol. It was all her creativity and hard work. She designed her stuff to be a fashion icon. She was pissed and used her effortless lower voice for the supremes. @tanyagary8494 Жыл бұрын
Well even if her mom and Dionne didn't like her, I'm sure they had they're reasons. Doesn't mean that Whitney dissed her. She was just telling the truth. Barbera sounded ridiculous trying to press repeating the same question. She had already gotten the response of who influenced her. Would Barbera want someone putting in her mouth about who influenced her to go into her career if she clearly named her influences If Whitney had anything against Diana Ross I doubt she would've taken time in one of her own shows to honor her by singing 2 of her songs. She should have felt stupid when Whitney said I didn't have to look to Diana when I was already surrounded by influences

I think her answer about Diana Ross was very honest and to the point because Sissy was one of the Sweet Inspirations she sang back up with Elvis for god sake. Whitney can hold her own she is in a league of her own her voice out weighted Diana Ross so I can see how she could simply say no she wasn't an influence.

I look at Whitney Houston the way I feel she wanted everyone to look at her; which was human. Just because someone appears to have everything doesn’t mean that they do. Like she said herself in the Oprah interview" she had the house, the cars, the marriage, the kid” but it wasn’t what fulfilled her in the end. What I got from that is if I’m not right on the inside then nothing else can make me whole. I love Whitney from beginning to end and in all of her phases. If I could reach her and send her a message today. I’d like her to know job well done. You did it all baby. You sang your heart out to millions, you were righteous, you got the chance to experience marriage, children(Step kids included), toured the entire world. She did it all! She lived and that was enough. Our lives can be one big mess at one point and real good the next, it’s called LIFE! I’m so very proud of that black, and gorgeous woman who made a difference. I’m still trying to make a difference and we all can learn and take a page out of her book. I refuse to look at her life as one big tragedy.Love you Nippy💜

She was such a beautifully gorgeous, well spoken, poised, elegant, classy woman. It is rare these days to see a woman or celebrity female carry themselves as such. Very rare. She had it all and those in the industry and some individuals that were the closest to her, tried to rip and tear her apart, like wild vultures, to the point she had to numb what self esteem she had left. If those people wouldve just cherished her and appriciated her as she was meant to be, she wouldve cherished and appreciate herself more.

Sorry but I have to say - "shade" on diana nO - whitney was sick of hearing comparisons and dealing with jealousy when she came on the scene - up until whitney it was Diana sexy in long gowns owning the stage - but whitney came out like a bullet and was global and huge - she had to deal with a lot of jealousy and from seasoned singers - her beauty and voice was unmatchable - very hard for ppl to handle - and in her early years she constantly let ppl know where and who she came from the great gospel singer Cissy Houston
@mitchellsteven36249 жыл бұрын
Kat Sangineto Perhaps she should have taken a few notes from Diana Ross who is STILL here sounding and looking good. Diana didnt get hung up on drugs nor did she get involved with men doing drugs. Neither Berry, Arne, nor Bob Ellis were in to drugs like Bobby. Perhaps she should have taken a few notes on Ross on how to raise children and then Perhaps her Own daughter would not have followed her Drug path. Yes it was shady, and tacky. All she had to say was my mother and cousins were role models for me. I found her answer Cocky and self observant. Reminds me of Natalie Cole who came right out in the beginning saying she thinks she has a better voice then DIana Ross. ok, that is Her opinion which No one ask her to give. Funny how both Whitney snubbing Diana here and Natalie both went DOWN into a Haze of Drugs. Yet Diana is weathered all those Demons. Sure she had a little drunk driving case but she checked HERSELF in to rehab and Stayed until she was better. Unlike Whitney who her mother had her Checked in. But she ended up checking herself Out long before the rehab could even Kick in. . But WHO has NOT driven and not been high on booze. We all have. Diana just got caught and the rest of us was Lucky Not to get caught. I have driven drunk when i was in my 20s but Never got pulled over or killed anyone or had an accident. I was one of the Lucky ones. Of course I know better now to drink in drive as i am in my late 50s. Sorry Whitney I admired your voice and talent. But your little big headed Ego cockyness was showing here and Got on my Nerves several times and I didnt care for it. This is one of her Cocky moods and before the drugs took over completely. I would not doubt if she was doing drugs during this interview. Whatever. as I said. Call Diana whatever but she is Still HERE. Whitney is not. and didnt last near the years Diana has. THink about it. All Ross kids came out pretty good no so for Whitney's only child. Whitney nor Bobby were Good role models for for Bobbi K. and I blame both of them for how Bobbi K turned out. Sadly both Bobbi and Whitney lost their lives way Too Soon.

+Mitchell Steven Indeed I RESPECT Diana Ross with all sincerity but at the same time she was no Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston was a force of nature once in a life time occurrence. God bless her eternal soul, Whitney was anointed by god himself. In life...things happen....people are used as a vessel for something greater than themselves...people are endowed with gifts that are unimaginable ...for beter or worst ...it happens...Whitney was one of those of people. Diana Ross God bless her soul...she was not of the same lineage as Whitney Houston.
@thewizboy8 жыл бұрын
ohok83 you must be taking the same drugs Whitney was scoffing down to say some bullshit nonsense that Diana Ross was not of the same lineage as Whitney Houston....Fool if not for DIANA ROSS there would have NEVER been a Whitney Houston. and lets not forget....The Guinness Book of World Records has named Diana Ross as "THE MOST SUCCESSEFUL FEMALE SINGER in THE HISTORY OF MUSIC"! a Title that Houston has never had. and at this point since she self destructed, NEVER WILL. Diana Ross did it first and opened the doors to all that followed her, including Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, and Whitney Houston just to name a few. Diana Ross changed American music and racial divides and was not just an incredible singer and performer but one hell of an actress too. Your comment was completely and totally stupid...Sorry but Whitney Houston and none of the others are on the same Level or Lineage as MISS DIANA ROSS. PERIOD!
@Just_us-27 жыл бұрын
thewizboy You're absolutely correct, they aren't on the same lineage as Diana Ross. Because they didn't screw Barry Gordy, and whomever else to make it. Unlike Diana Ross(in my opinion Whitney could sing, as well as act).
@MichaelReyy7 жыл бұрын
thewizboy The fact that you take shots and petty jabs shows how insecure you are in DR and how the point you attempt to make can not be argued successfully. Success is a pretty broad term as it means many different things to many different people. Trying to prove someone's artistic superiority based on stereotypical success is foolish and juvenile. In regards to WH and DR, the proof is in the pudding, i.e., their singing, and to say DR is superior to WH in that area is flat out wrong. Note by note in their respective primes, WH obliterates her in nearly every regard, something that is undeniable and proved not only here on KZbin for all to see, but by listeners' reverence for Whitney. I won't argue about success in terms of sales and popularity(even though WH is literally one of the most successful artist of all time and the most awarded female of all time), but let's try impact. If WH's career only lasted "10 years" like you claim, that speaks volumes upon volumes about her abilities considering she is literally exalted by nearly everyone(audiences, critics, and artists both old and new). For you to say that... just adds to her magnificence. Very few (hypothetically, but realistically no one could) could reach her current status in only 10 years. Besides, in those 10 years... she undeniably cemented herself among the legends in history. She was a living legend at age 30. Argue it all you want, this is undeniable. In this time, she broke records, set records, and broke certain barriers that had not yet even been hit. She is one if not the most influential female vocalist of all time. Her counterparts of the trinity were even influenced by her, interviews of which prove that are here to see on KZbin. Not only that, she has influenced and gained respect from artists in many genres, both old and new. When people think of great female vocalist, many names are listed.... but how long would it take for someone to mention DR IF they would even think to say her name. She is not in the same class as the trinity, Aretha, Patti, Chaka, Pat Benatar, Billie holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand. Not in popularity, not in influence, not in reverence, and most certainly not in vocals alone. Lastly what you said about there would be no WH if there wasn't a DR is the biggest stretch I've ever heard. If there was no Aretha, then maybe there wouldn't be a WH(Even this is untrue). WH was in no way influenced by DR, her career in no way had any impact on WH. Her greatest influences were her Mother and Aretha, with Gladys Knight, Barbra, Chaka and Dionne being secondary influences. "Miss Ross" doesn't deserve any credit for WH success. It's hilarious that you call WH smug and sarcastic when this was nothing compared to the insecurity filled comments DR made before and after WH performance of All at once at the AMAs. CLEARLY someone was feeling threatened. You also speak as if DR has sustained some incredible longevity in her career. But where.... like she has long been forgotten and shadowed by other female vocalists who surpass her. I mean, isn't it funny how she's been in the business for how long yet her reverence is no where near any of the singers I've mentioned, especially not WH. It's pretty clear she is your fav, but in honor of her and whatever impact she might have made, don't make comments that expose insecurity. Be confident enough in her to not feel threatened.

I miss the days when artists actually sung rather than lip synch the whole time. Whitney Houston had a beautiful smile, voice, singing voice, etc. Can't believe she's gone along with BKB. Glad BB was able to clean up his act and rebuild his life and career. I miss the 90s and all the great artists(MJ, Prince, 2Pac, Biggie, Aaliyah, Selena, Left Eye, etc.) from that era that is gone. Kids today will never know the feelings we used to get from hearing real music with meaning and lyrics you can actually understand, relate to, and follow. I appreciated the 90s so much even though I was still growing up. Even our sitcoms and movies were great and meaningful back then. Especially for the African American community.

Thanks so much for posting this brief yet informative interview -- so timely since Barbara's recent passing, and the new biopic about Whitney.

She was so forthcoming and straightforward about every single question. And she knew herself well. It made me tear up when Barbars asked if the way her brothers talked about women made her private and she said "it made me COLD." She always did come across as icy but she seemed so sincere and the way she sang was about as warm as anyone could possibly be. What a life she had. 😢

thewizboy Diana Ross daughter Rhonda Ross father is in fact Berry Gordy. So yes Diana Ross did fuck her way to the top. Also listen to her and Florence Ballard. Florence Ballard voice was way more powerful than Diana's. Have a good evening

thewizboy you do realize that it was actually diana that was jealous of whitney dumbass. why would diana be whitneys influence when she can't even sing.
@samuelbennie76906 жыл бұрын
Actually I think Dionne I can say was the first Pop , and R&B black female that was crossing over. I don’t see how someone can be mad because she said Diana was not a influence ....it was a honest answer. Truthfully vocally who needs to look at Diana when you got Cissy as your mother , Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick as cousins ...Diana wasn’t messing with them vocally on her best day.

I couldn't imagine living my life with people commenting on every mistake I've made or will make in life. I have enough just being a average woman. There's MANY sides to EVERY story, and somewhere in the middle there's the TRUTH. Who are we to judge? Money cannot buy peace of mind...( I know)! On a positive note, I believe Whitney is directing the choir in heaven and eternally singing for the Lord. God bless Bobby Brown and may mother and daughter Rest in Peace. Amen.

There was a period in the music industry for black female singers to be compared to Diana Ross, they did this to uphold that standard which ofcourse was weird. Diana did big things and was always great in her own right especially when it comes to her performances. But we also had Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle but they always wanted to compare to Diana in the sense the one that appealed to the masses and majority white audiences. That's why they needed Whitney to take over that imagae cause that was what they knew. It's not the artists fault the record companies were responsible for that they were crafting black females images to yet again appeal to white audiences. But their individuality especially Whitney's was very clear she was something else and unique she didn't get her status as the greatest singer of all times for nothing.

I love Whitney. She is a person. So wasn't just an artist or a talent. She was truly given a gift. The artist of today are created and do more of other things than perfect their craft. But that's the way the world is now. Everything is super fast and real artist get over looked, blackballed, or retire early.
