Rage for perception checks makes sense, imagine being woken up in the middle of the night by an annoying sound, and you'll get it. Plus, angrily glaring at your surroundings for something to smash is pretty accurate. For stealth- think the "calm bloodthirst" of quickly and uncaringly clearing through the goblin guards of a fort, dimly lit by poorly made torches. You run through the darkened halls to arrive in the chamber of the antagonist you're REALLY pissed at- quietly emerging from the shadows behind them and ripping their arms off without valor, flair, or fanfare- only sudden, brutal fury.

I still think control is the most important aspect of rage that they've bizarrely never touched on. Instead of barbarians being angry naked fighters, I think they should have to balance the depth (= power) of PC's rage against their willpower to direct, sustain, and survive it. Guts, Hulk, and Naruto are all examples of what I'm talking about. Isn't that part of what makes the class narratively engaging?
@ethanchastain22393 ай бұрын
I am pretty sure that almost every DM allowed a barbarian to use str modifier for intimidation checks. Being angry in my book would give you disadvantage on stealth checks your mad your not paying attention to your surroundings, and when your mad you pay attention on who your mad at so in that sense it makes but anything else would not make sense. I personally allow my players to use there anger outside of combat without costing a rage but while in combat it does cost a rage point. I will be sticking to 5e. If anyone would like to start a discussion (not an agreement.. please).

2024 wild magic is so broken. For example, "tides of chaos" gives you advantage on any d20 check but you can only use it once until you long rest or when you cast any spell with a spell slot, if you use a spell you get to roll on the magic surge table. (Which was updated to have a lot more beneficial effects and fewer detrimental ones.) The last combat my party got into I used "tides of chaos" to get advantage on firebolt's attack roll. And used "quickened spell" to cast Fire Ball to roll on the surge table and rolled a 3 (1-4 roll on this table at the start of each turn for 1 minute ignore this result on subsequent rolls) then 2 turns later I used "Blink" to disappear at the end of each of my turns for 1 minute if i roll 4-6 on a d6 roll. (You dont reappear until the start of your next turn.) So if you followed all that, that means for the rest of the combat I was unleashing a random effect, used fire ball then disappeared to where no one could hit me at the end of each turn just to reappear at the start of my next turn to do it again. (I infact got lucky enough to roll a 4 or above every time the whole fight). Its insane and thats all just base wild magic now.

Barbarians can rage outside of combat it's just a later part of the class however I imagine you can still burn a rage for that little extra strength modifier but it's like a one action thing outside of combat

Why the fuck is it force damage? Force damage is raw magical energy.
@Thomas-zt7dm3 ай бұрын
Not really, if you teleport into a wall or become corporeal in a wall you take force damage. Not from the raw magical energy but from the pressure of being inside a wall.

currently playing a 5e barbarian, having a hard time cuz we hadnt had a combat in so long. also I did rage out of combat a few times, most importantly to fix a hole in our ship, had to keep hitting myself to stay in rage

My favourite barbarian rage power from PF1e is Raging Climber. Because I keep imagining it as the barbarian furiously pushing a tree down into the ground rather than actually climbing up it.

"But surely Path of the Berserker still sucks", and there I made a Fairy Barbarian with Path of the Berserker (just because I could)

I'd understand letting barbs use strength for the other dex checks and intimidation, but an angry sneak is nonsense. Imagine the hulk trying to tip toe around.

@waterierStone hey giant angry sabretooths are stealthy. "You gain proficiency in another skill of your choice from the list of skills available to Barbarians at level 1. In addition, while your Rage is active, you can channel primal power when you attempt certain tasks; whenever you make an ability check using one of the following skills, you can make it as a Strength check even if it normally uses a different ability: Acrobatics, Intimidation, Perception, Stealth, or Survival. When you use this ability, your Strength represents primal power coursing through you, honing your agility and senses. "

Wow, I already loved Barbarians. This is so sick. If they would have fixed Rangers and buffed Monks I would buy the new phb. But no point in getting something I'll have to homebrew to fix anyway

I get the rage skills are supposed to make the barbs feel better outside combat but cmon, it makes NO sense. "I can sneak better cause I'm screaming my head off and pissed"

I mean, there was already the option for players to use other modifiers for skill checks. In Xanathar's, it points this out. I believe a common one was Barbarians using STR to Intimidate, instead of CHA
