Wow, the Yellow surprised me. Yellows are usually garbage over black, but yellow there worked really well. Also, just as an in general tip, be wary of using Lacquers and Enamels over acrylics, because the solvents are a bit aggressive. However, if you work in very thin layers, the lacquer/enamel thinners will evaporate so fast it can't really attack the Acrylic. You just need to take your time.
@werofpm11 ай бұрын
just let your acrylics cure longer, 24-48 and you'll mitigate much of that risk, learned th hard way

Any idea how durable those primers are? They don't just peel all over the place from sanding so that's a good sign, but if you were to scratch them say with your nail will they come off? I know even enamel will come off with enough scraping and that you're not supposed to do that, but do they come any close to lacquer primers? My old vallejo primer likes to flake off even after leaving it for a week to dry...
@wallace4911 ай бұрын
Great demo! I like most Vallejo paint except their primers. These new ones look better. The main weakness in the old primers were flaking when sanding or masking. Poor adhesion. When you demonstrated sanding the red primer it actually looked like it sanded and feathered nicely. Would liked to have seen a masking tape test though. Maybe in a future video. Thanks for all the great demos!!

My biggest issue with Vallejo primer was using it on something I knew I was going to mask over for additional paint. 9 times out of 10 the masking tape would pull the paint up primer and all. No matter what I tried the primer couldn't hold up to masking. I switched to Stynylrez and never had that problem again.

Have you tried ProAcryl primers? They don't have a lot for colored options, but they work great. Cover very well and reduce super well to preserve details. They do need a little longer curing time than some other primers I've used, but I love it because it really does just let me be sloppy and blast a model and let it reduce itself down. Their Dark Neutral Grey and white primers are pretty much all I use any more

@Auchaser64311 ай бұрын
For model color you really have to use a low amount of paint since it's so thick. The bad thing is each color requires it's own thinning/flow improver amount to the point that I just left acrylics and went with lacquers. Less of a headache for me.

Vallejo primer stands up to sanding pretty well, if it's allowed to CURE. Being dried and being cured are not the same thing. Let the primer cure for about 48 hours, and then try sanding it. Night and day difference! I did see a video where a guy made a mix of 50/50 Vallejo primer to Quick Shine Gloss floor finish (green label). He said that after about half an hour the primer was rock solid and sanded beautifully. I've not tried that yet, but I do plan to.

You know it's all marketing.........They can easily make paint with the same adhesion qualities as primer. But they wont sell as much product. Like all the other associated products, like flow improver is just soapy water to reduce the surface tension. Any cleaner like fantastic in a spray bottle will clean any acrylic paint.
