Barbie is the kind of movie I don't think anyone thought could be made, but here it is and it's actually not that bad; Ryan Gosling as Ken is way too damn good!

Your speech at the end about not letting someone drag you down really means a lot to me. My bf and I just broke up. He wasn't doing well, he was hyper-fixated on his own issues and ended up ignoring me. The part where you said it's ok to jump ship is something I really needed to hear today. Thanks guys. ❤

Who needs him. A relationship works best when you can help each other solve issues together. Its called a give and take relationship not a give and give relationship or a take and take relationship. Those are toxic as hell. Be proud of your own self worth and find someone who can appreciate you the same way you appreciate them.

John Cena got his cameo in BARBIE because Margot Robbie and he ran into each other when they were out to dinner (separately), and found out they were both working on projects at the same studio. Margot Robbie asked him if he'd like to be in BARBIE, he said "Sure!," and they created the cameo for him. Fun fact: All the Barbies and Kens (and Allan) depicted in this movie existed as real Barbies. Including Pregnant Midge, Growing Up Skipper (I remember the commercials!), Earring Magic Ken (aka "Côck Ring Ken," Mattel discovered *after* that doll was released, lol), etc. Even "Sugar Daddy Ken," though that was a very pricey, limited edition doll that was part of Barbie's Palm Beach line.

I loved that you saw the humor in this, it is a really entertaining movie. And you seem to get it. Thank you for that. It has a theme of equality but so does a bunch of other movies and somehow a lot of ppl get offended by this one. This movie brings up male and female issues in a direct, clear and funny way for all genders and ages. Genious!
@DrumL3000
@DrumL3000 9 ай бұрын
Well since the movie uses certain current controversial buzzwords, there is no way to get not offended. People nowadays looking through a political and ideological lense more then 10 years ago, obviously we can see that. And the movie does too. So again, people on either "side" are getting ... i guess whatever they see. But overall i think it kinda balanced out somewhat. 🤷‍♂

@@DrumL3000Hate to break it to you but we do. Some countries are worse than others but our society definitely follows the patriarchy as it's core concept. We can see that in the continuous objectification and sexualisation of women and young girls. But also in cases of female sex offenders, where justice is basically never served (even when the victim is a child) because it's still a wide-spread believe that women aren't strong enough to cause harm.

I am the youngest of six with three older sisters. During the 60s and early 70s when I was a kid, I had an abundance of Barbie dolls, due to hand me downs. About 15 or more Barbies and 1 Ken. 😹 Allen was a one time distribution then cancelled ( along with pregnant Midge) so the representation is quite spot on. Sure loved watching you react, my husband cracked up alot too! Humor is humor….glad you enjoyed! 😽🎥

I think Barbie has been the smartest movie I've seen this year. When I saw this in the theater with my friends we were dying with laughter after the movie. We went to lunch and spent the whole time looking up the different Barbies and Kens from the movie and they're all real. But the funniest thing we found was that Allan is Midge's baby daddy. It took a lot of control to not just lose it in the restaurant when we found that out.

I think the point of the movie is that in a society where one class is deprived of power, they resort to finding status through the class that has power. Historically, it has been women. But in this satire, the script was flipped to the Kens trying to find validation through Barbies. A society that offers opportunity for all is usually ideal.

The "anti-woke" crowd tried to paint this movie as some sort of feminist propaganda, which is sad since this movie wasn't just about or for women, it was great for men too. It touches on so many topics men go through and how alike we all are. The speech at the end that breaks the spell women are in are exactly how men feel too. Instead of the movie just speaking about toxic masculinity and how it's bad, it showed how it's bad for us men too and the unfairness of what we go through. It's a great movie! Also, when this movie came out, I took my Mom to go see both "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie", which we both loved and saw the message that many people miss out on.

Did you guys stay for the credits? They showed the actual dolls like Sugar Daddy Ken and Allan, etc. It's WILD that they made some of those figures, they weren't just jokes for the movie, they're actual Barbie history. As a 80's guy, I went into the movie with zero expectations. My wife watches plenty of movies I know she's not interested in just to spend time with me so why not go to Barbie with her I said. It was a blast, so many unexpected funny moments, learning about the weird toy choices, good message. People need to stop pre-judging and just watch it and decide for themselves what it's all about.

Maybe it's already been said - Barbie and Ken were designed after the creator's children. Alan was designed after Barbara's husband, hence, *there can be only one* . ;-) Alan, as a doll, was released in the 90s as part of a family plan w pregnant Marge, as alluded to in the movie, and didn't fly so well. It's odd that identity is personal, but a corporation can push one doll in attempt to encapsulate it all.

Allan was named after Ruth Handler's son-in-law and originally introduced in 1964 as Ken's best friend. Its a fun and silly movie obviously. I think the movie splits audiences on what "message" it wants to deliver. Showing many sites to a story and diving into different world views or ideologies. So in the end it is a somewhat balanced movie in that regard. But again after all its a Barbie movie, meaning fun and silly.

I'm a dude who has never surfed or played golf in my life. But the Godfather thing nailed me. I'm guilty of being that guy, and it was a hilarious bit.

I know a while back you guys reacted to The Martian, and I'm sure a lot of people mentioned the next page-to-screen adaptation of Andy Weir's work called Project Hail Mary. For a long time, I was against Ryan Gosling being attached to the project as the main lead. After seeing Barbie, though? All bets are off. Gosling is entering the Paul Rudd phase of his career where he can do whatever he wants. And the dream "I'm Just Ken" sequence? I don't know what twisted genius was high on magic mushrooms when they thought that up, but whoever it was deserves a raise!

I gotta say, I'm a bit older than you guys, and I've heard all the classic lines to pick up a girl. However, one of the construction workers said one I've never heard, and sadly gets a little buried. He says "Is that a mirror in your pocket? Because I can see myself in your shorts" That to me was hysterical, but a little hidden in the dialogue.

I once dated a guy who played guitar At me, as in stared at me when he sang and played. Eh gods, never do that. It's so awkward. But yes, those guys are out there, in numbers.
