71 years and still bringing down the house with nothing more than that voice. I‘m so sad she never made the gypsy movie for real

Can't believe it has been almost 3 years since Back to Brooklyn. She commented that she had a cold that evening. Still sounded wonderful. Flew 3,000mi to hear her. Don't regret one minute.

It would've been ok if she'd done it in 2000. But she's just way too old now. In real life, Rose was 34 at the time the events of the play happen. Merman was 52. Patti LuPone was 58, and great as she was, THAT was pushing it.

@@johndalton3180 agreed. streisand would have been great if she did in late 90s or early 2000s. I wonder if she ever recorded the soundtrack earlier in her career. They also wanted her to play Evita in the 80s, but Streisand didn't think she was right for the part. Wonder if she ever recorded for that too.
@johndalton31807 ай бұрын
@chrislandis6873 She came close to doing Gypsy in the early '90s, but then Bette Midler swooped in and did her version. For Evita, they wanted her to record Don't Cry for Me Argentina, but she refused because she hated Juan and Evita Peron's politics.
@chrislandis68737 ай бұрын
@@johndalton3180 FALSE. She had no interest in Gypsy in the 90s. She was engrossed with Prince of Tides, then 'The Normal Heart' and then "Mirror." Bette's version was god-awful.
@johndalton31807 ай бұрын
@chrislandis6873 I believe after Prince of Tides, she was attempting to get the rights to Gypsy. I agree Bette's made for TV version is terrible.

I don't know if she understands the song, as combining it with don't rain on my parade implies that mama rose was in the right and mistreated, when, well, no, she was a piece of work, haha.

You're over-thinking and under-thinking. What she's doing is telling Sondheim and studio execs "see i can sing gypsy... (segue to) don't tell me I can't."
