She can sing ANYTHING! Effortlessly!!! If you want to be blown away listen to “absent minded me” off of her first album I heard it somewhere a while back. Her control is insane!!! I don’t understand how she mastered all these different dynamics with her voice. Remarkable.

Hi, Saeed - I'm so glad you found Barbra. This lady is unbelievable. It was absolutely wonderful growing up in the mid 70s-early80s. So many wonderful singers. Keep going man! Have a good one!

Barbra turned down the lead in The Eyes of Laura Mars so the role went to Faye Dunaway. How fortunate we are that she did sing this song over the end credits.

Another great song of Barbra's that shows her range and attitude as you say, is 'Make It Like a Memory' from her Guilty album.

"Prisoner" was written by Karen Lawrence and John DeSautels. Though only peaking at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978, this is one of Barbra's most powerful performances. I do think the song only played over the end credits of the movie, "The Eyes of Laura Mars."

Barbra did some great pop-rock tunes in the 70s. My favorite was “Don’t Believe What You Read” from her album “Streisand Superman”. The press was riding her hard then and she was pissed. You can hear it in her voice and its fits perfectly.

I believe "Don't Believe What You Read" is more a Pop/Disco song, but if you really want a Pop/Rock song from Barbra then i would listen to "You're A Step In The Right Direction" from her 1984 album "Emotion".

I almost didn't watch this reaction because I thought I was unfamiliar with the song. But when you said it was from the Eyes of Laura Mars, and I listened to a little bit of it, I instantly knew it. I knew that I loved it! I hadn't heard it in a couple of decades, but I instantly knew how it went. Beautiful! What a haunting song to go along with a hunting movie. It is part of my collection.

Saeed, recommended yet another gem in her catalog! This power ballad is about as close as Barbra gets to fully rocking out. Lol! And the wide range of the melody was perfectly suited for her extraordinary abilities. This was in 1978, when in the mid-late '70s, her voice had fully blossomed and she could do just about anything with it. The film is also awesome, which this song totally captures the mood and the overall feel and story. And being a mystery/thriller, I'm glad you didn't give away the twists in it! 😉👍 Did you know the lead part was originally written for Barbra? The producer was her live-in boyfriend at the time, Jon Peters. He really thought the role would be a different challenge for her from her other movies, and thought she'd be terrific in it. But after Barbra read the script, she turned it down because she said it was too scary and would give her nightmares! Lol! But in the end, she still agreed to record the Love Theme. And boy am I glad she did! Btw, this song opens the movie and closes it during the credits, with hints of the melody coming in throughout the film. Glad you liked it! ~ Chuck

What a pleasure for me, a fan of Barbra since 1982 when I was 11 years old, to see you discover her songs and her lives with so much admiration, it's such a pleasure. Continue... seeing you amazed at her work fills me with happiness. Barbra Streisand, who was originally attached to star as Laura Mars, sings the theme song "Prisoner" from this movie. It's the only song that Streisand sings for a movie in which she does not appear. The fact that her then-partner, Jon Peters, produced the film might explain this. Barbra later explained that she didn't feel like doing the film because she found it too violent and hardcore for her. It's in the opening credits that we find this song but only for a minute... Valéry from Lille, Northern France.

Nightstick is correct. The New York City Police Department used to use two kinds of batons depending on the time. The one for daytime was called a day-stick and was 280 mm (11 in) in length. Another baton, that was used at night, was 660 mm (26 in) long and called a night-stick, which is the origin of the word nightstick.

This wasn't the first collab writing a song between Barbra and Paul Williams... they wrote the theme song to "A Star Is Born" in 1976, "Evergreen," and it went on to win an Oscar and Grammy for Best Original Song and Record of the Year... the second Oscar in Barbra's career.

I allow myself a little suggestion which I think you will like very much, the medley from his film "Yentl" from 1983 here performed live in 1994 after 27 absences on stage, his return in 1993 was phenomenal, the tickets were sold in a few minutes, and this concert remains for many fans the reference concert with the calm and maturity of Barbra. Barbra sings the song in this clip as a duet with herself with the original video from the 1983 film behind her. Enjoy. Valéry, the French guy from Lille. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6TGdWd-ZZiMZpo

This is one of my favorite songs from Barbra Streisand, i believe there is also a extended long version from this song i never heard it before but i do know it exict, I never saw the movie myself but i heard that they offer the roll first to Barbra Streisand but she don't like these kind of Horror movies sho she turned down the roll and gave the roll to Faye Dunaway.
