I am 56 years old. I have known this song all my life. My mother was nuts for Barbra Streisand. We had all of her albums. I grew up knowing and loving her music. But sitting here today, focused and listening to this on your channel-it was as if I'd never heard it before. And I was once again gob-smacked at her singing. Just knocked out. Streisand is otherworldly here in her talents. OH MY GOD! Every note soars! She makes you feel so much. This early period of her singing was so pure and so open and so full. And she always sang in the most "dangerous" parts of her voice. She sings right where her voice should break-and it never does-no-she takes it further and again-SOARS! Streisand is like a Micheal Jordan or a Mohammad Ali or a Picasso in terms of mastery of her art. You really don't get better than Barbara Streisand singing "people" here. The highest level of performance. Thanks for posting. it was a treat to experience this again today. What a talent! I liked and subscribed.

At the age of 16 in 1963 - I was riding around town with friends and the radio was on , being drowned out by all of us. Suddenly I said, "SHH - stop talking everyone -- LISTEN TO THIS!" We pulled over and sat in silence, listening to this extraordinary and unique. voice. I'll never forget it.

I must have been around 16 when I first watched Funny Girl. And started to listen to her other music as well. And watching everything she ever did. And yes, you might say she has been with me during my entire adult life.

I’ve been recommending this song to you reaction channel people for several years, and I believe you’re the first one to do a reaction video to it. Your reaction does not surprise me. It is simply one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. It was also Barbra Streisand’s first hit single. From the Broadway musical “Funny Girl,” It became a number one hit in 1962. Simply a stunning performance by a very young Barbra Streisand. So glad you did this reaction.

She really is the most multi-talented person alive in the entire world's entertainment industry. She started on Broadway, has recorded albums in decade after decade, acted in film, directed and produced films. She is the literal GOAT, Oscars, Tonys, Emmy,s and Grammys, huge music sales, huge box office in theaters for both live and film. A headliner in every sense of the word.

Barbra became famous as a teenager, and there's a great video of her on the Judy Garland show where she sings "Happy Days Are Here Again" while Judy sings "Get Happy." Both of them are legends.

People always say they're speechless, and then launch into a long speech. I think you're the first person I've ever seen who actually WAS speechless! I love how you were so blown away that you could barely string together an intelligible sentence. That was so pure. One of my favorite reactions ever. ❤

The song, People, is from the Broadway musical, Funny Girl. It opened on March 26, 1964, with a then-21-year-old Barbra in the lead role & it made her a star!! The 1968 movie of the same name catapulted her to superstardom and beyond!! Make sure you watch the movie. It's GREAT!!! So is every song in it. Her entire catalogue is incredible, but a few of the songs I highly recommend are Somewhere, What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life, Memory, and I'll Know. My favorite albums are Simply Streisand (1967), The Way We Were (1974) & The Broadway Album (1985). So much fabulous music from the greatest voice of all!!!

My life wouldn't be the same without Barbra Streisand. Through the years from hearing and seeing her for the first time on Ed Sullivan's show to Funny Girl and The Way We Were and Yentl, and all of the TV specials and all of her albums up through the Broadway compilations...as I have sung along and tried to keep up - she has been the embodiment and voice of joy, and yearning, and sadness, and love and loss, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences where all of those elements come together in the one performer and phenomenon that is Barbra. She always wanted to be an actress who sings, not a singer who acts. She can't separate them - in every song she acts out the story and emotions completely. In every film she inhabits the character she plays and brings you into their world. And that is why she is such a big and wonderful part of my world. I recommend her autobiography which she reads herself - you'll learn about every aspect of all of those things and the amazing creativity she brings to everything she touches - and shares with us.

She’s a phenomenal Director as well. I’ve just finished listening to her life story on audiobook. Highly recommend. It’s long so you’ll have to listen to it in bits and pieces but she narrates the whole thing and there are lots of cutaways to the music she’s talking about. I’ve loved her ever since I was a little kid when I heard this song for the first time. I am consistently blown away by her voice and the acting that comes into the way she sings. So many songs she covers it’s like I’ve never understood the words until she sings it.

Kudos for listening to the entire song without stopping (many people reacting keep pausing and they cheat themselves of an ideal first listen). You gave us a great, honest reaction and I shared the pleasure you had. Streisand has done many versions of this song, yet my definitive preference is her performance of "People" on the Funny Girl film soundtrack. Thanks for sharing.

I love all Barbra, but early Barbra as this is, is by far my favorite period of her career. This was the breakout hit from the stage play and later film "Funny Girl" which was the vehicle that really put her at the very top of her profession....and won her the Best Actress Oscar (tying with Katharine Hepburn who won for "The Lion in Winter" the only tie in the categories history.) Two other fantastic songs from the show, both spotlights for her, are "Don't Rain On My Parade" (a real tour de force) and "My Man". Some other terrific songs from this period: "Why Did I Choose You?" "My Coloring Book" "I'll Tell the Man in the Street" "He Touched Me" "A Sleepin' Bee" "Starting Here, Starting Now" There are many, many more but these are a good starting place.

I have a real soft spot for "who's afraid of the big bad wolf" from her first album. I know it is silly and a lark-but as a child-i ADORED it! Her fun! Her madness! Her crazy laughs! The voices she does for the pigs! Her crazy crazy full on high soprano note done multiple times flawlessly! and that arrangement is gold! to start with the "Peter and the wolf" motif! it's all heaven! granted-it is clear they don't know how to end it-so it dissolves into just wacky madness-but I don't care. It is yet another amazing Streisand unique and thrilling moment to me! thanks for posting. Your choices here are wonderful! Every single one of them! thanks for posting!

Your reaction is funny and touching in a way that only a first time listener's can be. Some singers' talents are so extraordinary like Streisand's or Pavarotti's that they defy any kind of analysis. So I understand fully how you were at a loss for words because no words are necessary or adequate. It's enough to know that so many of us can share and appreciate these glorious sounds along with you.
