Back in 1982 I wrote a fan letter to BJH thanking them for this song. I was a young child living in Beirut during the Civil War & this song was often played on the radio & it inspired us & gave us hope that someone cared.... Many, many years later I read an interview with John Lees in PROG ROCK Magazine where he recalls reciving a letter from a Child of War in The Lebanon and how it inspired him in return.... That child was me! Thank oyu John & Mel & BJH for giving us such beauty ... I now Live in Hong Kong and still listen to BJH on Spotify & have recently started buying all their albums on Vinyl "once again"... LIVE ON YOU LEGENDS!!!

One of the greatest and most iconic songs ever written. This is right up there with such titanic songs as Lennon's 'Imagine" and Macartney's 'Hey Jude'. It is as valid today as the day it was written. Sheer brilliance.

Timeless classic from a timeless band. I saw BJH do this and other great songs in 1975 at the Kursaal, Southend. I was 20 and still trying to convince my girlfriend (now my wife of 46 years) that there were great bands and great music beyond Tamla Motown and Top of the Pops. So I took her along to this gig and she LOVED them and still does - as do I. What a voice John Lees has.

Hi Malc... I was a french assistant in a Southend ( Shooburyness) comprehensive school in 1975/1976 and had the opportunity to see this band on stage at the kursaal ballroom in october 1975... amazing concert with great versions of ''child of the universe '' and '' mockinbird " "Such an underrated band !

Bombastic and pretentious but at the same time talented and catchy. Saw them live once more than 40 years ago and still love them.
@grizzpin5 жыл бұрын
"Bombastic" = high-sounding but with little meaning. "Pretentious" = attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed. Why do you describe this brilliant band thus? John Lees has written many songs that reflect his social conscience, and this is one of them. What is he supposed to write about, in order not to sound bombastic and pretentious? Also, having met the man several times, he comes across as unassuming and even a bit shy.

The 70's sailing to various ports and time to reflect ponder the meaning of existence? What am I here for? 1984 trusted since I was busted by studying the New Testament, and the Beautiful Shepherd who sought the lost sheep! So now by grace I seek to tell that He does all things well! Don't fret, it leads to evil, give thanks for His grace that mentors you to run that race, so your identity is In Christ, for there's no other sacrifice to pay for sin, you gotta let Him in so you know that you're born again by the living and enduring Word of God! Basic Information Before Leaving Earth!
