‘REAL Life Rapunzel’ Alena Kravchenko hasn’t cut her hair in over 30 years - and has zero plans to start! Based in Odessa, Ukraine, Alena’s hair is a staggering 6ft long and the last time she had a haircut she was just five years old. Taking inspiration from her mother and grandmother who were also long hair enthusiasts, Alena is now famous in her home country and worldwide. Unsurprisingly, her long locks mean that Alena gets a lot of attention and she’s developed a huge following on her Instagram page receiving thousands of likes on her posts. She has also received messages from strangers who are so enchanted with her hair that they have proposed marriage. If it’s untied, Alena's hair now sweeps the ground when she walks so she sometimes wears her hair in a braid or a bun to stop it dragging along the floor and to allow her to drive. Although she doesn’t cut or trim her hair Alena regularly visits her stylist who she has formed a strong connection with and together they experiment with different styles and looks.

Not sure about that. In medieval times most women had hair like this. Women have been increasingly cutting their hair so it makes sense it adapts and stops growing. Look at other countries where long hair was standard. Indians, native americans, south americans, polynesians, asian, very easy to grow hair. This is the same reason white men tend to lose hair quicker than men of other races. It's not genetic but that AND adaption. Adaption is evolutionary.

Whenever I have my hair long, I always do a braid or sometimes buns (buns often are too heavy and hurt my head). In 2017 I cut it all off and had a short a-line. It was a relief in some ways because it didn't take forever to brush out or style. I have since grown it out but I still go back and forth about what I want.

I consider myself a pretty healthy Ukrainian girl, but for whatever reason my hair is as thin as that of dog fur, not to mention I shed it like a labradoodle. It is genetics that matters, and to a much lesser extent your lifestyle. I have also seen a lot of Eastern European girls with extremely thin hair, so this woman is rather exception to the rule.

I absolutely cannot wait for my hair to get this long! I don't understand why so many people are so against hair this long. If she wants hair that long and she is willing to maintain it and keep it clean and healthy. I've seen a surprising amount of unnecessary comments about how it's "too much work," or are critical of it. It isn't your hair, if SHE likes it and SHE thinks that all of the work is worth it, that's her choice.

Yeah, people like that make me laugh and shake my head. Most likely, it's jealousy. Even if someone doesn't want or like long hair, they can still be jealous of the ATTENTION the person is getting with it. If someone is gonna be a big baby about another getting attention, then that person is gonna have a pretty miserable life, because there are tons of people out there better looking or just stand out more. It's her hair and her "burden" to deal with. People need to get over it.

I know skinny women who had kids and lost what little weight they gained, but still have tummys even after exercising and eating strict diets and lotioning during pregnancy. Some keep the extra skin, some women's whole composition in that area changes. Nothing wrong with that tho, I sure as hell would get a tummy tuck even tho I don't have kids 😂

I spent my childhood with my mother cutting my red-gold hair to my head like a victim of a concentration camp. When I left home, I grew my hair- it was wonderful, but so heavy- after a certain length, bad headaches. And I could not anchor it to my head- I usually wore a low french braid in a snood. Still... became very ill- and it all changed. But, my daughter now has the amazing hair... This woman and her daughters have lovely hair.

That being said, it's obvious that she has grown her hair out as a part of a family tradition, which is the same reason those I've known had hair that long, so again, nothing against her. I think it's wonderful she has kept her tradition alive, I only wish the women I've known would get the same kind of respect for doing the same thing.

while your comment would have made so much sense if she was American, i just don't think it applies here. Native Americans do get harassed for their hair. But Europe is a totally different continent and there's no reason to create this false "rivalisation" of sorts between a Ukrainian woman and the Native American women. Their cultures are comparably diverse and hair is equally important to them. I'm Slavic myself and when Slavic women are described in traditional art, it's usually their long and thick braids mentioned first. Healthy hair means a healthy = fertile, desirable woman and so it becomes a very important symbol of femininity for Slavic women. Maybe white people in America don't have culture but in Europe it's different.

And that's exactly why her hair stays so long. Because it doesn't break off. That's why most people's hair can't grow that long is because they're so rough with it, it breaks off long before it gets any length. You're NEVER supposed to brush your hair when it's dry. Just detangle it by hand. Otherwise it will break.

@@WhitneyDahlin ...no. Hair has cycles where the strand will drop after a certain length. That length varies for people, most will stop between waist and hip length. She’s just genetically different. You are supposed to brush hair after it dries to reduce breakage, since hair is porous. If you want to reduce breakage wear protective hair styles and switch up the hair styles so you don’t get continuous tension breakage, i.e. one of the more common is breakage along the crown from tight high ponytails.

@@samz8359 I've a cone head. Remember that film 😂😂 I wear bandanas to match outfits but most of the time I go without. My eyebrows are really fine but I dye them with just for men works wonders. Without my eyebrows I looked like a big toe. A pointy headed big toe 😄

@@littlemisseatscrispsforbre5353 you have a great sense of humor, thank you so much! My eyebrows have thinned a lot and I have an oval shaped head ( cone head sounds better🙂).. her hair is just so gorgeous, right??? I will have to shave it all off at some point though. .

The longer the hair, the end get thinner. Trimming it a bit makes it proportional til the ends.

It’s so strange how so many different cultures connect hair length to beauty isn’t it? What is it about long hair that draws us in?! Lol! it’s just hair! But it’s very beautiful. It’s actually thick, lush and healthy too, which not many of the others with such long hair seem to have. I’d definitely just snip those ends to stop it dragging on the floor though, having it dragging on the floor is not only get dirt on it, but must kick up the really badly as well - but that’s just personally - my hair never grows past my waist though anyway, so I’m good! lol! 😄

i don’t know how she deals with it.. I have the “pandemic” long hair.. I haven’t cut it yet..and I am torn between cutting it and not.. she has a stylist it take care of her hair.. and she keeps it in a bun.. that’s how I wear my long hair.. in a bun..I’m too lazy to dry it and wear it long! 🥴😄

Wash it less, she washes it once every 2 weeks (I suggest you start washing it once every 3 days then work your way to last longer between washes) and she puts her hair in updos and brais often! A hairmask or an oil treatment a few hrs before washing also helps and brush it 2-3 times a day. No more no less!!!

She is the first woman I've seen with extremely long hair that looks fashionable rather than looking like someone from the 70's who is trying to hold onto their youth. Sorry, but those are the only others I've seen. She is absolutely gorgeous and would look stunning in any hair style, including a pixie. 🤍

🤔 Ssooooo.... people from the 70s aren't allowed to feel connected to their long hair because they're no longer young & trendy? Or don't have the means to care for it as well? That's a little judgy. This gal even said she's never going to cut it so when she's old will her connectionwith it be lessened in your eyes because her modern style will then be antiquated? Just saying. There is a flaw in your logic.

@@ultrahyperchibi Everyone is allowed to do whatever they want with their hair. I would never tell someone what they can and can't do with their hair. However, I was a stylist for 30 years (hair, clothes, makeup) and was speaking strictly from a fashion point of view. Besides this woman, I haven't seen anyone in this era with extremely long hair who was also into fashion. Generally, the women with extremely long hair tend to be into their hair, but not other parts of their appearance so much. It's just an observation.

I am not trying to hang on to any youth. I like my long hair because it is much easier to manage and style. Why should I cut my hair just to end up looking like a quarterback youth in high school?
