INSPIRATIONAL CrossFit trainer with cerebral palsy has beaten cancer and is fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning her own gym. Steph Hammerman, 29, from Knightdale, North Carolina, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy shortly after birth, undeterred by her condition Steph defied the odds and became the world’s first Level 2 (of 4) CrossFit trainer with cerebral palsy. In May 2016, Steph was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, an uncommon cancer that affects the lymphatic system. After 29 weeks of chemotherapy Steph went into remission and moved to North Carolina with her boyfriend to achieve her goal of opening a gym. Follow her story here: / stephthehammer

I have spastic hemiplegia cerebral palsy and watching videos of other people who have cerebral palsy makes me feel like I’m not alone in my own battles with my limited mobility. My left side is weaker than my right. Love this video and more like it. Adding to what I already said, people don’t expect those of us who have disabilities to do things like CrossFit, seeing people who have disabilities achieve their dreams and life long goals is proof that we are capable of doing these things and more.

damn she beat cancer in 7 weeks, my mom didn't beat cancer until a year later... That really shows how important mood is when it comes to disease. I wish I was more of a support system when I was younger, I always indifferent to it and didn't really understand what cancer was

Attitude is important when it comes to health but it isn't a good predictor of outcome at all, DNA & random chance are more accurate/unpredictable. Do you mean you wish you were more supportive for your mum or that support was available for you? Or both?

It’s amazing to see another couple similar to my husband and I. He also has CP (spastic/hypertonic) and we met on Bumble and fell completely in love. It’s now been one year and we’ve been married 5 months next week. Being his carer isn’t easy, some days are so hard I feel like I can’t deal with it but I wouldn’t change it for the world, he makes my life complete.

This is why us civilians need teleportation, to be at this gym. Looks like such a nice environment. I'm pretty sure gyms around here are gross or too expensive or don't accommodate those who can't use all the equipment. I don't have anything wrong with me physically other than being lazy, always in pain, abd like 120 pounds I haven't really ever been to a gym though. Just it would be nice to have a place like this everywhere
