I'm guessing this isn't the original Bardahl Special that raced in the late 60's. That one was built up specifically to beat Daryl Greenamyer's Bearcat. A lot of good Merlin's gave their lives in that quest.

@@AeroStuffFPV Dreadnought did not "Blow up his engine" ! They lost 1 intake valve that's what caused all the backfiring just after pylon 9 and his pull-up,

There has not been a real race in Reno for years since the RARA screwed everything up. This year with Dreadnaught out Stevo can run the Bardahl Mustang with the gear down and win the race😁

@@sanfranciscobay The Bardahl Special is one of the oldest Reno contenders, it was, as far as I could research, in the competition as early as 1965. They just took a veeeeery long break.

Yeah, clocked at 469mph - 2nd placed Seafury (Dreadnought) ended with a mayday but averaged 441mph - A whopping 30mph gap between 1st and 2nd

Until you are looking through a viewfinder or at a video screen that is almost impossible to see in the sun and try to frame an object coming at you at 450mph, It is NOT easy !! I have been there many years never got as good as the pro guys filming from the pylons. Bruce W

And NONE of these guys are as fast as the original, fast beyond belief, crews. Rare Bear, Strega, VooDoo, Dago Red. Too much cost to race, compared the the rewards of winning, let alone 3rd place.

Dago Red is pretty dated compared to some of the systems in Bardahl. Bardahl has combined systems from Strega and Voodoo to make a really outstanding package, both of which had been whipping Rare Bear for years. We were 10 mph off of Voodoo's speed and we did not profile the wings.
