My old trainer, who I started riding with when I was 9, once we had a good seat and knew enough, would alternate saddle with stirrups, to saddle without every day. Then it was saddle with no stirrups to bareback every day. My seat got so good it took freak accidents to get me off. Then we were schooling advanced Dressage and jumping without a saddle. Then we had to lose our reins. The school master she had was INCREDIBLE. A slight shift in your seat and she knew what you wanted. If you asked wrong, she'd pin her ears while you were riding. You could do one tempi's, bareback and without a bridle. Just AMAZING. Mare was worth her weight in gold and then some.

it takes time and practice. i’ve been riding for about 9 years, albeit on and off, and i can count on one hand the amount of times i’ve even cantered bareback. you’ll get there !

Great Job. Its something people should do alot more of. Its a great way to feel exactly how evenly you sit on your seatbones and how good your core is. Also it helps you to feel how straight the horse is going and how evenly the use the hind legs. His initial reaction was interesting. But by the end you were both very comfortable.
