Lifestylist barefooter here. I was wondering if you had done any conditioning/practice first? When I first ditched shoes, the first couple of months was a process of repeatedly pushing the limits of what my feet could take. On the first day, I could barely walk half a mile in my own neighborhood without limping home and having to take a few days off for the blisters to heal. After a couple of months, I could walk several miles on most surfaces without any pain. My escapades would end because it was getting too late or my legs were sore long before my feet had any trouble. As a kid, I used to grind sticks to a sharp point on concrete. It's so abrasive, like coarse sandpaper. How my feet got tough enough to put in so many miles on such surfaces amazes me. It's crazy how the human body can adapt to such physical stressors.
@KathrynJones3 жыл бұрын
Hey! So I hadn't ever done anything this extreme, only casual barefoot strolls on occasion. I had been using a pair of barefoot shoes for a few months leading up to this which was helpful, but I definitely recommend that others prepare better for this type of trek. It wasn't something I had planned on doing ahead of time, it was more so an impulsive act of opportunity (I didn't even know a few days prior that I would be there to begin with). That training for your feet sounds like a smart progression. I might need to start on a regimen similar to that. Thanks for reaching out!

Awesome and inspirational. I switch totally barefoot shoes and walking barefoot as much as possible since August 2021. It's been a painful transition but consistently improving and loving it. This past weekend I hiked about a mile downhill on a rocky trail with a pack on, so I feel your pain! : ) But, at the bottom of the hill, felt accomplished. I would like to set a goal to hike more difficult terrain as you. Keep going and posting!

Thank you so much for your kind comment! It's definitely a painful transition and sadly I need to re train my feet again. I've been living in Puerto Rico working on fixing up our boat for travel and walking around a marina, and the streets here it is almost impossible to be barefoot. There are so many little slivers of metal and pieces of fiber glass and what not. I was barefoot for a little while here and then I stepped on a metal shard that was only about as wide as a needle but it went straight into my heel. I've been anxious to walk barefoot around here ever since. But hopefully once we take off and I am back on the trails I will be able to be barefoot more often 😁 Also thank you for following along. I really appreciate it 🙏

I do feel proud of myself 😀 Luckily this experience did not make me give up barefoot hiking. I don't always hike barefoot, it is a mix, but I do still occasionally do it. When I'm backpacking, once I make it to camp, whether I was hiking barefoot or not I end up remaining barefoot the rest of the day. Also, I did find it motivating to have so many people comment on this video encouraging me to continue hiking barefoot. I don’t like wearing shoes or socks at all. There the first thing I take off once I get home. Always barefoot at home and whenever it’s hot weather. I might wanna try going barefoot hiking too. Who cares if they are dirty at the end, they were meant to explore nature. Do you go barefoot a lot and were your feet calloused after the hike?
@KathrynJones4 жыл бұрын
Me too! I'm barefoot all the time. I don't hike barefoot often but I keep meaning to do more. It's hard here in Utah in the summer because the ground can get so hot. My feet have a thicker skin now but not nearly as calloused as I would need to regularly hike this way. I use a barefoot shoe that helps me to at least feel more connected and gives my body the freedom and flexibility it needs. I think transitioning from a barefoot shoe to barefoot hiking is an easier transition than just jumping straight to barefoot. But that's just my experience. I must say that whilst I'm a barefooter and go out on all terains, grass, sand, rocks, concrete etc I would warn against trying this without being barefoot and accustomising your feet to, well pain, yes that's right pain. The feet are built for flexibility, robustness, and the open air. Shoes deprive them of this and you need to spend time reacquainting them with their natural environment. This young lady hiking barefoot to the top of this mountain even after a barefoot regime must have been excrutiating. God knows how additionally painful this was I she wasn't accustomed to doing it. My advice - and I do this daily - apart from regular outdoor barefoot walks is GOLF BALLS! Some foot experts suggest rolling them under you soles. Not me - STAND ON THEM - TAKE THE PAIN UNTIL YOU CAN'T - DO THIS EVERY DAY AND THE PAIN RECEPTORS GRADUALLY ACCEPT THE LOADING. I no longer need to worry about doing this and in the long run if you want to try climbing a mountain without shoes it is much more possible and less painless. Feet need this. That is what they are for, walking.
@KathrynJones6 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for your comment! I completely agree that barefoot is a great way to go and it's best to train your feet for that before a climb like this. You're right that it was excruciating lol
@eddiephillips44246 жыл бұрын
I was surprised you just up and did it! Very brave. Feet are not meant to be encased and need time to get used to the outside environment. Doing what I suggested is without doubt excrutiating until the feet accept what you are doing and in time it becomes not a problem. I do this along with exercises daily and can walk just about anywhere barefoot now. Very hot pavements will always be a problem! Golf balls in 8 x different parts of the soles. Sounds painful? Yep! Does it work? Over a period of time your receptors get used to the pressure. Worth thinking about.

Great achievement!!! Is this the very first time you walked barefoot ? It's always tough if u have not done any form of barefoot walking on rough, stoney surface. Just try going barefoot at every possible time. Our feet were created to be bare. That's exacly why there are so many sensors located in it. When you walk barefoot on rough stoney surface our entire body gets stimulated through these points. As far as health is concerned barefooting is the best foot spa one can get free of charge. Go on let your feet breathe freely. cheers !!!

Once your feet gets seasoned you will feel very comfortable the feel of mother earth touching your bare soles. I don't know whether you're aware, barefooting heals lots of ailments from top to toe. I myself was a regular user of footwear fir 25 yrs. I used to get regular headaches and lower backpain very often. Met this Ayuvedic doc through a friend and he adviced me to go barefoot as much as possible. Believe me, in just 3 months l started to feel a big difference and mind you neither headaches nor backpain bother me anymore. Other than at my workplace I always go barefoot now. I had a very heaty body and used to suffered from gumboils and that too doesn't trouble me anymore. Take my word and go barefoot at every oppotunity. Barefoot is best.Cheers !!!

Watched tour climb to Croagh Patrick just once more. I feel if you continue barefooting regularly a repeat of the climb would be acake walk. But my challenge for you was not as tough as that. It's just to do a video on rough stoney road. Cheers !!!

I've been working through some injuries but should be back to hiking soon and since I will have to start slowly I think jumping straight back in to barefoot hiking will be the way to go! Stay tuned for those videos :)

Oh they were super sore 😂 The next day the bottoms of my feel felt like a combination of a deep bruise mixed with an intense sunburn ha but it was worth it 😁
