you'll also create pressure points which quickly become spider cracks because your knees are bony and fiberglass is more fragile than it seems.

Any tips for surfer with bilateral hip replacements? I could pop up prior, but now cannot create enough space to get foot forward. I am strong, had a lot of pt and still no go. Same holds true in teaching yoga I cannot get leg forward between feet from down dog--if that help,s understanding Much appreciate any ideas. On the water...

Hey Andy, I’m just into my 60’s, fit & fairly flexible but have a back knee issue & loss of agility including hip rotation mainly due to age. Chicken wing works for me & I plant front hand forward of the other hand on push up. Opens up space to get front foot through. Ride a 7’ 6’ mal in surf up to double overhead but try to stick to surf 2-4ft. Nearly time to swap to the 8’ 6’ + longboard. Hope that helps. Good luck & regards from Aust, Phil

Practice! - 30 a day on a finless soft board you keep under the bed: 10 every morning- 10 at work somehow then 10 every evening- or if none midday 15 AM and 15 every PM.

Sometimes I am too exhausted from paddling to take off with out using my knees. Beginners woes.

Not necessarily true. Using your knees and only your knees is actually the fastest way of landing on your feet. Especially useful when surfing really short boards. It has done very quickly from an extreme downward dog position so you get enough hip bounce.

You're right, and they actually have another pop up video that shows short boarders whose feet hang off using a knee / push up pop up
