So the He-Man and Masters of the Universe franchise started out by making toys on the cheap, using toy molds from retired products and modifying them. Think of it as mods of normal toys to make "space punk". Anyway, by taking existing molds and making the Masters of the Universe toys they were constrained by what they didn't want to change or couldn't afford to change. This includes basically taking a page out of comic books and changing the color of what would have originally been bare body parts. So muscular legs go from flesh-tone to green or blue or purple, or animals go from beige or brown to green and orange. This of course then translated into how the characters are represented in other media. Filmation as a production company was infamous for their lack of detail, which worked well enough given the way the toys were designed. It didn't work quite so well when they made the 1989 Dolph Lundgren/Courtney Cox/Robert Duncan McNeill movie.

It's a cartoon from the 80's. Pretty much there is a toy line and the best way to market and sell them was to make a low effort cartoon to run on Saturday mornings and afternoon syndication. @katherineberger6329Ай бұрын
A big chunk of the weird He-Man animation character designs was to see if they could entice Mattel into making action figures that they could collect royalties on. Skeletor was originally conceived as a skull-headed demon from another dimension. Before the show was cancelled, though, they were planning to make him Keldor, the half-brother of King Randor (just two different humanoid species) who lost his face in a failed attempt to seize power for himself and was presumed missing or dead by the rest of his family. This makes him Prince Adam's evil uncle, though Skeletor will never admit it (or sometimes never even remember it), and He-Man doesn't usually know it, but this Keldor backstory is now canon for most other versions of the story like modern comics and cartoons. Another constant is that he's the renegade ex-servant of Hordak, who actually has very goid armour.

Full plate armor has to be fitted to the individual that will wear it. There were mass-production sets, but they did not provide the full protection of a suit because the plates that needed to be fitted close to the body and required expensive plates that slid over each other, connected by rivets sliding within slots in the plate, were discarded, which is what the armor in the video looks like. Such mass-produced armor from Germany and Italy required some shaping and some padding to wear comfortably. There is an actual name for such armor but I can't remember at the moment.

The lighting engine makes it look so _raw_ that I legitimately thought it was her own flayed musculature until I saw this video. What I REALLY appreciate about her, though, is how her flirtatiousness is used to create further discomfort within (most) players. When she starts showing up in-game, it feels like you're being stalked by a horny, shapeshifting Hannibal Lecter without impulse control. Even as someone usually into scary women, everything about her is _so_ skin-crawlingly icky that you just want to get the Hell away every time she shows up.

Though it looks and flexes like thick cloth, it has lasted her 11,000 years, so it is very sturdy. Also, she fights with a fencing posture, facing her opponents with her right arm and leg forward, using lunges and thrusts to stab and parry. Her back leg she uses to maneuver out of the way.

I don't know if it's directly stated in the game - I think it is, but I might be making this up - but Orin's "armor" is not really an armor, but I think it's flayed skin. She's sadistic, bloodthirsty assassin, that just wants to kill, maim and eviscerate everything and everyone, so... I think it works for her, kind of... I don't really want to think about it too much xD

For what it's worth, the He-Man character in green and orange that you rated as "pretty good" is Man-At-Arms. If you assume that He-Man is a Barbarian (think D&D terms here), Man-At-Arms is basically a Fighter. He's the one likely to be proficient in whatever weapon or armour comes up in the series, and understand tactics more generally. Basically, if He-Man had an army, there's no reason Man-At-Arms wasn't his General.

Lae'zel gets "Just Stab Me Now" for not having proper pants but Duncan gets "Pretty Good? for tights and furry underwear? Not saying his armor's not "better," but the disparity between them doesn't seem THAT harsh.

It’s the context. The rest of that poster had Jill in such despair that she had to cut him some slack lol.
@EliteslayerXАй бұрын
I was thinking the same thing; neither of them have pants, but at least Lae'zel's armor has more overall coverage (without going into in-story reasons to try and justify Githyanki armor beyond "it looks cool")

I really want to see a review of some of the Guild Wars 2 armor, especially the bladed sets and some of the cultural sets.

If you take suggestions from comments, I need to see an armor comparison of Kazuki and Inukami from “The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic” Early in episode 10 they stand right next to each other in their full armor and the comparison, when they’re both mostly fighting on the front lines, is insane. Kazuki gets mostly full armor with some gaps where it makes a bit of sense, but Inukami gets so much less

You could totally make a whole armor rating video with just bg3, there are definitely sone less silly armors in there, I promise (especially the ones not belonging to a specific character, though that might be less fun ig)

That break down of He-man was not something I ever expected....but damn if it wasn't entertaining. Thank you.

I always thought Orin the Red was just wearing the skin of people she had killed, and since she is a shape shifter, whatever she is wearing would have to also shift. So it is either her skin, and she is making it look like that for "reasons" or its some sort of enchanted shapeshifting thing and looks like that for "reasons:

for further armor reviews (not sure if I've said this one before, but if I have forgive me) may I recommend General Lilia and his underlings from the mobile game Twisted Wonderland, if only because Lilia's armor is going to be so much hilariously worse in this tier list than the guards he leads.

the orin outfit holes are probably from places that have already been stabbed off or something already. it be like that sometimes.

I'd love to hear what you think of Chris Lightfellow's armor from Suikoden 3. Actually the entire suikoden series would be an interesting video given the variety.

Would you ever do a ranking of book character armor? Like not necessarily any pictures but just from the description of how the armor looks in a book?
@potatoradioАй бұрын
WOOT Man AT Arms is... Armored! Grin. Also He Man is weird as it has future tech AND magic. So, kevlar+ fabric with electronics, and Freya's feather cloak (kinda) for the sorceress.. Lol still not great but just a thought.

in the old comics that came with the figures, he man's outfit generates a force field, sot sure if they retconned that in the new one. admittedly its a butt pull excuse due to the fact they just wanted to make some frazetta/vallejo style barbarians, with muscles and loincloths, but thats their thing, its not specifically armor, instead magitech force armor.

I'm pretty sure all the Not Actually Armour on the He-Man characters is a bunch of kink outfits. Also, maybe have a look at She-Ra and the Princesses of Power? I'm sure there's some armour there, if only on the Horde soldiers
@julietfischer5056Ай бұрын
Unintentionally kinky outfits, as they were trying to appeal to kids who would buy the toys.

Lucy Lawless commented on heels in “combat”: self defeating. You can’t move in them! (Words to that effect.). And they will break your ankles, feet and legs. I will comment on the plate armor, especially about the “dragon wings”: not just no, but (heck) no! Thats sheer fantasy. This is from someone who wore plate armor for tournaments, mounted and afoot. You want your armor with the most protection and least frilly junk protruding. That stuff makes articulating difficult if not impossible, and opponents’ weapons catch on it instead of glancing off. Okay for cartoons, but not reality. Great video, Jill! Cheers!

Some old-school 80s and 90s anime I'd like to see you review: - Mospeada/Cyclone + Ride Armor (Genesis Climber Mospeada AKA Robotech: New Generation) - While we're on Robotech, Jeanne/Dana's armor from Southern Cross - The Knight Sabers' armor from Bubblegum Crisis - Iria (Zeiram live action movies/"Iria: Zeiram the Animation" anime)
