My most variegated albo was the cheapest. I bought it as a low variegated node on fb and, honestly, didn't think much would come of it. The axillary bud had the faintest of white line through it. Now it's my best variegated albo, putting out a ton of white. One leaf is all white with a bit of mint green in the center. I absolutely love it, it's my baby. I have another that I paid probably double for that the node had more marbling but it produces way less variegation than the other. I think that's what I love about these plants, the surprise of what's next. Not your typical plant that will produce the same leaf over and over. Don't get me wrong, I love even the most mundane of plants, I just love the excitement of what will it be this time. Will it be highly variegated? Will it be fenestrated? Who knows! 🤷🏼♀️ They are such interesting plants.

You scored! I love that heavy white variegation with the patches of mint-they’re so damn pretty! And it really is quite random. All you need is a little stripe of variegation and it can create a really beautiful plant
@sarahneedom9661 Жыл бұрын
@prettyingreen they are so pretty. I definitely did score on that one. I'm still shocked when I look at it. And I will sit there and just look at it. The plant's probably like, " Please stop staring at me." 😂 But it must like it because it pumps out better and better leaves every time. Almost like saying, "Look, mom! Look what I can do!" And I'm over here like, "Awww! Look at my baby!" 🥲 I'm sad, I know. 🪴👀😃😂

Out of the many expensive albos (and no inexpensive) I’ve owned, the variegation is truly random. Don’t give up on a plant just yet. My rule of thumb, wait 3-5 leaves before you know it’s been reverted. But even then, cut back and hope for the best! It’s been tride and true for me.
@prettyingreen Жыл бұрын
I agree! I always wait a few leaves to see!

A really informative video! Thank you🌱😌 I might be too hesitant to ask for more pictures of albo cuttings because then the seller might get what I'm thinking and then trying to sell the cutting for it's future unsure potential rather than the current value... I'm constantly awed how much people are asking from their cuttings as a private seller. I would pay more for a business than a private seller because with business you have better insurance if there's problems. Of course anyone (also businesses) could scam you but it's more likely with private sellers. I would never risk buying an expensive cutting that way...

It's so funny how aesthetics changes prices so much. It's a similar situation to plants with damaged leaves. I had a Warocqueanum for sale for 40 but it had a damaged leaf, as soon as a new leaf came in I cut the old damaged one off and upped the price to 50 and it sold immediately xD I care about the roots and overall visual health of the plant not the physical damage on leaves, but so many people only care about how the leaves look.
@prettyingreen Жыл бұрын
This is EXACTLY how it works! Very first thing I check is the roots. I don’t really care the visible leaves of a plant too much as long as there’s a healthy growth point the plant will be good. You can get some great deals this way

So I found with climbing airoids that I can propagate a wet stick and cut the new vine that grows off of the side of it loose once it grows its own roots and wait for that wet stick to grow another vine. Sometimes they continue to put out vines over and over and over other times after a couple of cuts, they become a sort of zombie node. Can we talk more about this? Do you use this method?

Thanks for a great video, heard of checking axial buds but not petioles! One question though - does the same really apply for thai cons? I thought the variegation was more genetically “built in” and stable (unlike unstable albo var) so would it do much to help on a low speckled thai? 3:48
@prettyingreen Жыл бұрын
In my experience it is! Especially if you’re cutting to push specific axial buds out. They’ll act just like Albos do!
