About the tail, Toriyama explained that 20y ago. A saiyan's tail is a recessive genetic trait. A full blooded saiyan having kids with a human results in a half saiyan who has a low chance of having a tail since the non-tail gene of a human is dominant over the tail gene of a full blooded saiyan. That's a clever theory he came up with to not draw tails anymore because he hated drawing them.

Even if it is a recessive genetic trait, there is a chance for a genetic mutation which would birth a full blooded saiyan without a tail. If that saiyan would birth a full blooded saiyan, the chance for a FB saiyan without a tail would be 50%. When two 50% saiyans elope, the chance for a tailful saiyan reduces to 25%. With saiyans existing 1000s of years, you would imagine there would be more tailless saiyans 😂😊

Vegeta in the timeline of the show as I'm lead to believe conceived Trunks before he became a Super Saiyan. He then went into space, trained for months, and then transformed. Toriyama stated in an interview that Goten and Trunks didn't have a tail when they were born due to "recessive genes." Toriyama also explained in an interview that to be a Super Saiyajin, you need a genetic anomaly called "S-Cells." The more S-Cells you have, the more capable of becoming a Super Saiyajin. Saiyajin tend to have more S-Cells when they are more gentle-spirited. In addition to that, Goku and Vegeta were already Super Saiyajin when they were "creating" Goten and Trunks, and were genetically passed a large amount of S-Cells. Then you can also add to the fact that they are half-breeds, who tend to naturally have more power at younger ages.

Gohan actually had to try to dodge the rocks while in super Saiyan form while Goten was still in his normal state. The power difference between both of their super Saiyan forms can’t be that far off. But of course that difference disappears when Gohan goes to level two

Gohan wasn't using nearly his full power, the Z Fighters rarely ever do. They only go all-out for an instant or two when they launch a massive energy attack or when they power up to their max. For most of the sparring with the rocks, Gohan didn't even have an aura. He was just shocked that Goten was at a level that made him push past his relaxed state in SSJ, and that he had to start taking Goten seriously.

When Goten throws the rocks, he should have yelled "DODGE." As far as Goten not having a tail, Toryama has a tendency to forget certain details when writing his story. It's also possible that since Goku was much stronger when Goten was conceived, becoming a SSJ was more powerful which could have negated him needing a tail.

Not sure if you're aware of the interview, but Toriyama's actually cleared this up in a Midi-chlorianism. Basically, all Saiyans have S cells. You need a certain amount to trigger the SSJ form. Training can increase your S cells, but without a calm heart, you need to undergo some kind of trauma to instinctively unlock it. When you have children, you pass on your S cells to them, so if you have a ton of S cells (already being a Super Saiyan AND still training, like both Goku and Vegeta, for example) you'll pass them on to your child and they'll inherit the ability to go SSJ. In my mind, it kind of cheapens Super Saiyan because it literally reduces a warrior race's once-legendary transformation to a child's toy. Then again, we already have Super Saiyan 2, 3, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue, and so many other forms that put the original SSJ form's power output to shame. So I guess at this point it doesn't really matter

A lot of people don't like Goten and Trunks being able to go Super Saiyan so young but it does make sense based on genetics. Recently it was discovered that in humans if you are a body builder for example and conceive your child at your peak physical fitness then that will unlock genes that will enhance your child's ability to build muscle when they are older, making it easier for them than it was for you. So as Goten and Trunks are both half human and their fathers were at a higher power level when they conceived them they find it easier to unlock their potential than Gohan.

We were never given a real explanation as to why Goten could turn SSJ so easily. There are a few fan theories. That week leading up to the Cell Games, when Goku and Chi Chi most likely conceived Goten, remember that Goku was a Super Saiyan the entire time. That could've just passed it down easier. There was also an interview of something having to do with S-Cells, that a Saiyan has to develop through traumatic events and eventually lead to becoming SSJ. Each time you transform creates more S-Cells each time you do it. So the more you transform the easier it becomes and it explains why Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan had to do so much to get it. Goten likely had S-Cells passed down. This is just a fan theory, no real proof, nothing really backing but tbh the Buu Saga is where a lot of things just kinda happen and don't get explained.

So I heard a theory years ago about how Goten and Trunks are able to become Super Saiyans at their age. Not sure how accurate it is, but they say it was something to do with their level of...goodness? Not really sure how to explain it, but because Goku always fought for good and just things, his level was already high, which is why it took Vegeta so long to become one. Because he only fought for the wrong reasons, as did the rest of the Saiyans on Planet Vegeta, which was why there had never been a Super Saiyan until Goku. As far as Goten and Trunks, I guess it was more considered as the innocence of a child that made it so easy for them. I guess that would also question why Gohan never became one at that age, I guess it was because it was never considered possible until Goku achieved it, but would explain his immense power bursts he would get from time to time. Like I said, I heard this MANY years ago, so it's not exactly word-for-word, but it kinda made sense to me when I read it. Especially how Vegeta and the other Saiyans weren't able to achieve it because of those reasons.

Toriyama has never officially stated this, which is backed up in both Daizenshuu and Kanzenshuu interviews. He only ever said "I never planned to continue the series after the Pilaf Saga", which is ALL he said. He has NEVER said he intended to end it after Freeza. He also NEVER said he intended to end it after Cell. And if he truly intended to have ended the series at any point, he would've at the very least taken a break and thought it over. Dragon Ball's weekly serialization in Shonen Jump never missed a chapter from the beginning of the series in 1984 to the end in 1995.

The reason Goten can turn into a Super Saiyan so easy is partly because they have Goku's genes and Goku has a lot of these things called S-Cells. The more S-Cells a saiyan has the easier it would be to turn into a super saiyan. In peaceful times a saiyan can have more S-Cells than usual and Goten has only known peaceful times.

Goten and Trunks were never born with tails. The creator of Dragonball Z said he forgot about the tail this far in the story, but people say that a hybrid saiyan normally does not have a tail, and Gohan was a genetically disposed to have the tail, like when people are elbinos.

I know a lot of people are defending Toriyama's statement regarding tails and genetics, but he did admit at one point he forgot to give Trunks and Goten tails, likely because he had been drawing Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta without theirs for quite a while before Future Trunks was introduced. And before that he even admitted to getting annoyed with drawing them at all and that's what really lead to tails cease growing back. Toriyama is NOTORIOUS for forgetting things, whether it's tails, or even main characters like Launch. He even forgot one of his earliest iconic villains Mercenary Tao during an interview, and had to be reminded by Eiichiro Oda who he was. (And Oda handles far more characters than Toriyama by far, so the amount of characters to handle is not an excuse.) And it's likely Toriyama is well aware of how forgetful he is, since he seems come up with a lot of lousy reasons to somewhat cover it up. Such as suggesting that tails are a recessive trait, which makes very little sense and shouldn't require a geneticist to explain how it could possibly still work for Gohan to have one to other fans who already have a basic grasp of how genetics work. Or that he wrote Launch out of the story because her frequent hair change was too much like a super saiyan transformation. It's frustrating, to put it mildly, because the franchise would be even greater than it already is if he didn't have this problem. It would be one thing for it to be over very minor characters or design details, but when main characters and their designs are being forgotten, it's no longer convincing for any fan who wants to defend him to say "yeah he forgets things but it's not as bad as you make it seem".

My guess is they either had Goten's tail permanently removed, or he simply wasn't born with one. Same goes for Trunks. I think with half-saiyans, there's a chance they won't be born with a tail. Maybe it's a 50% chance.

Actually very low chance to have a half saiyan be born with a tail. Toriyama explained 20y ago that a full blooded saiyan having kids with a human results in a half saiyan who has a low chance having a tail since the non-tail gene of a human is dominant over the tail gene of a full blooded saiyan.

The reason why Goten got to SSayian soooo young is because a Sayian's offspring is born stronger the stronger the Sayian is .... Goku had Gohan before he could even stand up to Radits, which is why they both struggled to become SSayian (imagine Goku and Vegeta having more kids at their current level)... but, Goten was conceived when Goku had already gone beyond Ascended Super Sayian, this means Goten could have even more potential than Gohan ... PS: I loved this moment for Chi Chi, she was a fighter too and the fact she was training Goten all along was awesome to see

On Goten turning Super Saiyan so young, there is an interesting theory I read once which was that it was because Goku could turn SSJ when Goten was conceived (whereas he obviously couldn't when Gohan was conceived). In short, Goku's ability to turn SSJ before Goten's conception meant that Goten had an easier time of it than Gohan did.

When Goten was born I figured that she told piccolo, Bulma and Vegeta. Vegeta knowing full well what a Saiyans tail leads to, likely removed the tail or at least told Gohan to. Or had Piccolo do it.

I think Goten would have to be around 6 and 3 months old because he was born 9 months after the Cell arc. Still impressive though, he's pretty much stronger that freiza at age 6, he's basically a prodigy. This makes sense as Trunks is a year older because he was born in the final year of the 3 year period between Trunks and the androids arrived.

When Goku had Gohan, his power level was about 4 thousand or so, but when he had Goten 11years later Goku's power was around 150 million. Because Goku was SOOOO much stronger, it passed to Goten making him able to change into a SSJ without all the training. 😉 I edited my post to let you two know that I see you explained why Goten is stronger as such a young age, but I will still leave it. 🙂

Goten was born without a tail. If you notice in the Android saga, Trunks wasn't born with a tail either. It's a Saiyan recessive trait.

Meow, who will win Chi CHi or Videl? That is an interesting thought that Goten was more more powerful than Gohan due to Goku's power at the time. The same thing with Trunks, that thought never went in my head. It makes total sense and that may be the reason they became Super Saiyans. You got to love happiness and carefree attitudes, it's cool that Goten is similar to his father. It's like Chi Chi became a little bit like Goku after his passing to fill both roles and to feel close to her fallen husband. Yeah she wanted to connect with her new son too.

Funimation screwed with dub on this. In Japan, having blonde hair makes you look like a delinquent, in this case Chichi labels any Super Saiyans or blonde hair people as delinquents. Matter of fact if you played DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, in the encyclopedia, Chichi roasted all Super Saiyans; called them delinquents, she even called Goku and Vegeta delinquents when they used potaros to become the biggest delinquent LOL

Not sure if this is true but my theory as to why it was easier for Goten to acheive super saiyan, was because even in their off time before the cell games Goku and Gohan both casually stayed in super saiyan form, which means Goten could very well have been concieved while Goku was transformed.

I still say Future Trunks transformation to super sayian was the most surprising thing to happen in dragon ball z. Mostly because Goku had just achieved the transformation and He and Vegeta at the time were the only sayians left besides Gohan. Gotten transformation was a surprise but it wasn’t like the future Trunks transformation against Frieza.

Madison got surprised about Dende's mature look, but in fact DBZ messed up the story of aging Namekians a little. I read Namekians grow up much faster so when Piccolo first fought with Goku he was only 3 years old at the end of DB. 3! Now we are 7 years after the events of Cell which was also 3 years after Trunks' warning, so we are 10 years from Namek (Freeza) saga at least, and yet Dende only looks like a teenager. I mean even he looks ok now, he should have looked like a young adult in Cell saga already.
