_And so, one of the Earth’s greatest warriors has vanished in a blinding flash of light. Having made the ultimate sacrifice, for the sake of his loved ones. His name was Vegeta. A proud Saiyan Prince._ I can still remember shedding tears when I heard the narrator say this right after Vegeta nuked himself against Majin Buu. This is by far the most emotional episode in all of DBZ. Vegeta’s character development is just magnificent. He went from an evil, heartless Saiyan who wanted to destroy the Earth to a caring husband and father who would sacrifice his life for the sake of his family and friends to save the Earth from Buu. The way he embraced his son Trunks and told him to take care of his mother was heartwarming. Everything about this episode is just perfect and it really makes you love Vegeta as a character.

To those that miss it- if you're not already shedding tears after this amazing episode, when Vegeta says, "I think I finally understand you..."- He isn't talking to Buu, he's reminiscing about Goku. Remember Goku killed himself during the cell saga and it Broke Vegeta. Like his will as a warrior crumbled and it haunted him. This was the moment he finally understood why Goku did what he did and more importantly, for who he did it for. It's such a deep moment and is a testament to the writing for the show.
@macdaddymario Жыл бұрын
You've got evidence to back that up, of course. A quote of confirmation from Toriyama himself, naturally. Not the opinions of voice actors or anything silly like that. It's a nice theory, but it's just a fan theory.
@klephenthurry3284 Жыл бұрын
@@macdaddymarioOk honestly how those lines be interpretted any other way tho? You think he was talking about Buu or Krillin? 😂
@macdaddymario Жыл бұрын
@@klephenthurry3284 The interpretation is simple. He hit Buu with a lot. It did nothing because he regenerated in front of his eyes after getting hit with that "Atomic Blast." He understands Buu. "I finally understand you. I'm going to crush you, and throw you into the wind." the interpretation is simple. He understands how to kill him. And is proven correct at the end of the saga when he is obliterated by the spirit bomb. He just lacked the power himself to generate enough damage to do it himself when he tried. Again, unless we have confirmation to the proposed fan theory. I love DB. I work on ESF. But it's writing was never that deep, specifically because Toriyama infamously confirmed that he intentionally never planned anything, and is the reason he thought SSJ3 was SSJ2 after coming back to do the small amount of work he has done for SUPER. Hell, Majin Vegeta wasn't even his idea. Originally it was going.to be Majin Piccolo. His editor suggested Vegeta instead. Further showing there was no planned callback for Vegeta to understand Goku. He wasn't even supposed to be in that position originally.

Piccolo gave him the truth and told him what will happen after he dies. Respecting him. Krillin is genuinely concerned when he dies in the explosion. Compared to Season 1 when he wanted to run him through with a sword. It's nice to see Vegeta's impact and his switch. But his growth and sacrifice shows how the others care about him too. Vegeta's sacrifice. His atonement. He did this for his loved ones. Despite claiming just a few episodes ago that he wanted Babidi's power so that he wouldn't care anymore. And yet Vegeta's pride and his love overpowered the spell.

While There Will Be Many More Great Moments This Season, This Is The Peak Of This Entire Arc. This Is It. Madison Will Finally See The Moment We All Think Of When We Look Back At This Arc, And It's Only The First Act.

This moment, seeing SSJ3 for the first time, and the birth of Ultimate Gohan. Those are the absolute highlights of the Buu saga for me.

When you are a kid watching this for the first time, you have tears. But when you see this episode as a man, you know we all make sacrifices everyday to stay alive as much as possible and realize the truth about reality.

Vegeta is my favorite character because of his story going from ruthless to kind hearted and making the ultimate sacrifice for the ones he loves.

Vegeta operated here as a father AND as a sort of uncle... he saved BOTH those boys' lives.

Not sure why this arc gets hated on. This is one of the greatest arcs in Dragon ball. Amazing episodes

This arc gets hated on because it's consistently gets compared to the 3 previous arcs which are some of the best shonen shit ever.

when vegeta said at 16:33 "I think I finally understand you he was talking to goku, i.e. he finally understands how goku can fight selflessly and sacrifice himself the way he does, specifically referencing episode 192 when he feels defeated by goku's sacrifice.

I'll admit this episode makes me cry every time I see it. People that don't know this show don't understand everything with Vegeta here. It's deep! Things like this make DBZ the GOAT of any Anime or cartoon. Hands down.

I personally think why this is so emotional for boys and men, is cuz the only thing we wanna hear from our dads is acknowledgment that we made them proud. As a child from a immigrant dad who was very prideful and tough, that word was rarely used. Fathers back then just didn’t act the same. So to hear vegeta break though his toughness and pride at the end was something special. It takes a few generations to break through the hardships that come from immigrant life. I tell my kids I’m proud far more and I love them all time, but I still try and show them the toughness they’ll need for this world as well. We all have a piece to a puzzle for our family and destiny to get them to where we all wanna be. Someone has to break the mold.

I think Vegeta vanishing like this will be an atonement similar to tat of Vader in Star Wars saving Luke's life. So he's hopefully keeping his body in the afterlife.

Just the fact that Piccolo and Krillin are MOURNFUL of Vegeta sacrificing himself. They spent the majority of the series hating his guts and you wouldn't blame them if they would've otherwise felt he deserved to die. Just hearing Piccolo acknowledge Vegeta's selfless sacrifice and Krillin even screaming his name tells you that their hatred of him was gone.
@thefabuloustrash05 Жыл бұрын
A detail I love in this ep is that Krillin mourned for Vegeta. Such a crazy development since Krillin was the one who original wanted to kill Vegeta when they first met him, calling him an irredeemable monster, but Goku stopped him. Little details like this really show how the characters and their relationships with each other have grown over time.
