While it is never fully explained the main theory is that Majin Buu's explosion technique he used against Vegeta threw Shin outside of the blast radius Vegeta created with his Final Explosion/Atonement. It seems that Buu's attack also hurt Shin even more as to make his energy so faint Piccolo couldn't sense it anymore.

What makes Vegeta's sacrifice so incredible as well is, not only did he know he was going to die. But he knew he was going to hell afterwards for his past life and hurt he caused others. So to not only know you're gonna die but be punished forever afterwards...AND STILL make the ultimate sacrifice!?!?! It's beyond heroic, and I think that little fact gets overlooked abit sometimes.👍🏻

They wanted to permanently kill him after he died by the hands of Frieza, not after he self-destructed, but due to Vegeta's large fanbase, Toriyama decided to bring him back after Frieza killed him.

Actually that's incorrect. According to an interview by Toriyama Vegeta was actually suppose to die during his first fight with Goku but the character gained too much popularity in a short amount of time. I'm pretty sure Toriyama's editors prevented him from killing off the character permanently. Afterwards Toriyama used Vegeta in negative ways to propel the plot forward because the found the character to be useful to have a around and he would kill off the character temporarily whenever the fans asked him not to. This is a quote from an interview in 1995. “Yeah, I guess I like Piccolo the most after all. Out of all the enemies, Demon King Piccolo is the one I like most, and even after that, I like Piccolo the most. I like Piccolo about the same as I like Goku. With Vegeta, well, I don’t like him all that much, but he was extremely helpful to have around''

While Toriyama is the creator of DB and until his death the primary story writer he didn't have the authority to decide every decision. The Narrator really knew how to hit the mark with his send off to Vegeta. The way he admired him with the closing lines. This still hits you in the feels when you watch it. That's when you know you did something right in an anime/manga series. Vegeta giving his life to save everyone just hits differently. Similar to when Vegeta cried for the first time on Namek when he gave that speech to Goku before he died at the hands of Frieza.

Vegeta's most iconic moment a character defining moment and I love the conversation Piccolo and Vegeta had. There's Instant Respect between them it wasn't like that in the beginning but over time they showed respect for each other during the series. The funniest part is when Babidi what's begging for his life against Piccolo putting up that weak barrier. And then throwing that liquid on him piccolos is looking at him like really? 😂😂😂 And Vegeta hugging trunks is one of the most touching scenes that we've ever seen throughout Dragon Ball Z history.

I love this, so many people are finally experiencing Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Naruto. It's wierd to me because I literally grew up with those anime as a part of my life from 1997 when Toonami first started to now. I still rewatch DBZ, Naruto, and One Piece once per year, although One Piece has become quite the yearly binge to get through. lmao I've always preferred the Ocean Dub of DBZ. Fun fact. Creative Products Corporation in the Philippines was the first studio to ever dub DBZ. It's so cool to watch people experience them from a blank slate and not over-react trying to impress viewers. I'm so glad that Toriyama's work is still appreciated so much and even continuing to gain popularity after his passing. He inspired so many people and is the reason anime even exists in the West the way it does now.

It literally changed me, I walked at night for like an hour and thought if I would do the same for the people I cared about and I knew I would too. Truly Vegeta’s greatest moment. You can’t put it to words.🐉 I still get goosebumps when Piccolo is flying away with Krillin telling him how Vegeta is no longer fighting for himself. Sidenote: Anybody who watched this episode on Toonami back in 2001 in the states, was left on this episode for like 9 to 10 months before they played the next episode after.😂 Unless you brought the VHS. As a kid, Vegeta was my favorite characters and I always rooted for him to surpass Goku. The moment he shared with Trunks took me by surprised. But when Piccolo told him the truth of his fate in the afterlife, man that felt like a punch to the gut and it surprised me Vegeta accepted his fate and was willing to die for those he cared about.

I remember first watching this episode back when it aired on Toonami back in the day. It is nearly impossible for me to show tears of emotion for anything...... yet this episode was a real tear jerker due to the complete 180 Vegeta's character arc made since he first appeared in the Saiyan saga. The push to protect his family & friends, and watching this years later I didn't even catch how his voice echoed throughout the entirety of that explosion just to further showcase how he gave his all to try and stop Buu What made it even worse was that soon after the episode finished, we had to wait MONTHS for Toonami to release the rest of the Buu arc in order to find out what happened to Majin Buu. But yeah, this made me more of a Vegeta fan personally. Props to DBZ for creating such a powerful episode for this series

I was aware of dragon ball as a kid but i didn't get into the anime until after playing budakai Tenkaichi with my older brother and then watching some GT dvds after highschool. Afterwards i started on DBZ from the first season and worked my way up back to the full seasons of GT. I haven't seen all of Super but i have watched some of the movies and parts from online. Vegeta has always been my favorite character from the series and then Future Trunks, Goten (because I'd ask my brother whys there a kid Goku in this game?) And I'd always pick him in the game because he was a cool player. But, it was always Vegeta for my go to because he was a cool guy even in regular form. I miss my big brother, i haven't seen him for six years and i wish he'd contact me.
