Coming from a guy that has covered this song and has toiled over the intricacies of how it's actually played, this is absolutely amazing! The live rendition of his solo work plateaus even higher than what is recorded in the studio. Jake is so underrated in the Ozzy era it's ridiculous! The man is a beast to be reckoned with!

great player ok.. but i say that jake's a true virtuoso , guitar god, a guitar wizard.. original and innovative and a very humble guy... hang on jake - we all are with you - you will get the recognition which has been long long long over - due... you easily surpassed randy rhoads and zakk cannot hold a candle to you - you are light years ahead of over - rated zakk wylde.. hands down jake - you rule..

Well Jake is getting it now...thanks to KZbin. But I don't think Randy can get enough recognition. I mean his song writing is from a distant Galaxy composed of nothing but musical notation. Let's just agree that these are metal gods...Each exuding the best music we will EVER hear.

I totally agree with your comment, especially regarding Zakk. (I'm not saying he is bad but I like Jake's playing, it is more heartfelt.

I love watching Jake playing Bark at the moon around this time. No one else can actually play the solo like he did, especially the outro in a live performance. In this performance he even cuts it short because its so fast. Man if you listen to him try to play it now you'll see why this was when he was truly at his peak
@petersouthern72279 жыл бұрын
Actually, this version is the same as the album version. Later on in the Bark at the Moon tour the band played the extended version of the outro.

to me, Ozzy was a good singer, not great. He got VERY lucky with sabbath and then with Randy and then with Jake. Ozzy in the studio is pretty good. Live his voice isn't that great. Jake was always great live and studio. Hate to see him now though. He looks rough. :(
@GorditoCrunch3439 жыл бұрын
+TruthSurge He's still got it. Sure, Jake's not as clean as he was in his younger days, but no one is when they're 50. The man can still shred.
@TruthSurge9 жыл бұрын
+ShadowStrangle55 I'm still shredding at 52! Andres Segovia was still playing into his 90s. A little less accurate but still damn good. Les Paul was over 90 I think but he had some arthritis so his playing was way way tame then compared to when he was in his 30s and 40s.
@TruthSurge9 жыл бұрын
+Jeepy67 I agree but my 2 cents on why he succeeded... he was always - ALWAYS - surrounded by really good musicians. And Sabbath got lucky when they hit on the "evil" theme combined with the really distorted guitar sound. That one song spawned an entire genre. But... Ozzy does okay in the studio. It is a bit whiny when you consider his tone but having the balls to get up there and open your mouth is something and at least being able to hit your notes is another plus. Tone is prob down on the list. Somehow being able to entertain is a plus, too.
@TruthSurge9 жыл бұрын
***** yep. it's weird but it seems the less musical you are, you can be more creative sometimes. like the less technique you have, then you make up for it in other ways. I think Dio had a more pleasing metal voice and was pretty much a better singer but like you said, ozzy is ozzy. You don't really replace someone like that. When you do, it needs to be a Dio or someone not trying to copy ozzy. I mostly heard a few sabbath tunes like iron man and war pigs then i heard his solo albums and was like AHHHH gotta get that! Playing guitar also I was learning those blizzard of oz tunes. Randy infused some classical with melody and a nasty raw sound into the picture. Then Jake... I loved that Bark ATM album. Then I kind of lost track with a lot of music. But those were some magical times.
@TruthSurge9 жыл бұрын
+Jeepy67 I'm 52. So, yeah, not far off. Well, too bad we die, eh? So many died too young, though. Lots of musicians did. Damn drugs or private planes.
@Baze69111 жыл бұрын
One of the things that make Jake's playing style different is that he doesn't use a whammy bar for extra sound distorting. He just be creative without.
@arrowwaterable80086 жыл бұрын
How genius he is to think of such an impressive guitar solo at the age of early 20's ! By the way , Bark at the Moon sounds like " I'm stupid ."in Japanese. I guess a lot of Japanese people will agree with me.
Ozzy apparently had a throat infection in this gig... Jake was and still is a monster guitarist.

The best leads in a metal song ever! Hands down! Jake e Lee is ozzys best guitarist.. zakk and Randy are good too but Jake was imo the best ozzy had.. I will say tho, Randy had some pretty killer and memorable leads and songs as well.. diary of a mad man, crazy train, I don't know, suicide solution, over the mountain, flying high again, ECT ECT..hes a beast too.. but jake, man, killer of giants, bark at the moon, the ultimate sin.. I can go on and on.. they all have their memorable moments I guess I just think Jake was ozzys best guitarist hands down.. he also had the best stage presence.. but, that is my opinion on it .. And the worst thing ozzy and Sharon ever did was fuckin Jake the way they did and letting him slip away man cuz that dude is fucking amazing.. their loss.. keep killin it Jake!! You're still the best guitarist to me man and always will be bro! Cheers..
Reggie Trintels How can they possibly launch the vocal tape at the exact same time when the song starts?

If it weren't for Bob Daisley and |Randy Rhoads there wouldve been no Blizzard of Ozz , DIary of a Madman or Bark at the Moon etc. Ozzy owes his whole career to Randy, Bob and Lee.

It's not about who is the best, obviously Randy, Jake and Zakk are each one one of the best finest heavy metal shredders of all times, however it's about how music is performed and just by how Jake plays chords gives him a big advantage, not to include his his speed, nonetheless it's like compare oxygen or hydrogen to breath!
