JAKE E LEE IS HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST ROCK GUITARISTS. I KNOW IT'S FASHIONABLE TO SAY RANDY WAS OZZY'S BEST GUITAR PLAYER...BUT THOSE WHO TRULY KNOW GUITAR, KNOW THERE IS A STRONG ARGUMENT THAT IS WAS JAKE. NO KNOCK ON RANDY...I LOVE HIM AND HE WAS INCREDIBLE.....BUT JAKE'S RHYTHM PLAYING AND HIS UNREAL VIBRATO MIXED WITH HIS IMPECCABLE LEAD PLAYING PUTS HIM UP THERE WITH ANYBODY.

This video showcases his soloing but he was an incredibly clean and precise rhythm player as well, and his writing is phenomenal. He's so good it is ridiculous. Remember also he doesn't use a whammy bar either so whatever sounds he is creating he is doing it without a whammy.

So So true! Rhythm playing is soooo overlooked regarding the 80s players. He is an incredible rhythm player. There are tons of 80s shredders who are average Rhythm players....EVH was great...DeMartini is a great rhythm player as well. And he has to get credit for not using a Tremolo....his left hand vibrato is insane. He used to say when players get stuck...not sure where to go...GRAB THE BAR....it would bail them out. He thought it was lazy....he could make all the same sounds with out the bar.

Absolutely agree. I think Jake is in the same league as Randy. And those divebomb effects are done by both pushing on the headstock so hard as to bow the neck, and by detuning several steps flat with the machine head/tuning back to pitch on the fly (which is NOT easy to get so perfect every time as Lee does). Insane technique.

Randy Rhodes was a great guitar player however there are lots of great guitar players and he holds his position as one of the greatest to ever live simply because he stopped living!

I'm definitely a huge fan and was lucky enough to see him on the BATM tour. It was my first concert with Motley Crue opening for them and I was blown away. Hate the way he was treated by Sharon.

If it wasn't for Randy Rhoads, Ozzy Osbourne would probably be long dead from alcohol right now.

The fact that anybody would put Jake as the best guitarist of the 80s is just sad. He's a great guitarist, but even he would tell you that he's not even close.

Me too. Riffmaster. No one will ever perfect slow and heavy as good as him. Randy had more talent. Tony had more soul (which I heard he sold for rock and roll).

100% agree! Jake is my all time favorite guitarist and Ozzy guitarist. I love Randy and cut my teeth on many of his tunes, but Jake to me technically was a cut above. To this day, I still have a hard time playing Jake's stuff. He was crazy clever and crazy good. The Ultimate Sin is my favorite Ozzy record, and I sure wish it would get a remaster. I think that was Jake's finest work, along with the 3 albums in Badlands, and his solo album Fine Pink Mist. World class stuff.

no not technically better, that is completely false, Randy was much more learned and technical., this is not even debatable. Randy a cleaner player, Jake is awesome but be the first one to tell you Randy saved Ozzy's career because he was the right guy with the right skill and talent level

What has made Jake unique and outstanding is that he plays not only technically but also basically. I mean he has mixed the taste of 1980s and that of late 1960s - early 1970s. He sounds thrilling and stable. A thrill and stability are something opposite, but he's got them at the same time. That's why I think we've never gotten tired of his playing for 40 years since Bark at the Moon.
