Thanks for the review. I've been looking for a strop system and this appears to be one that perfectly fits my needs, maintaining edges on standard and curved blade types.

I've been just dropping by knives only for a while now and I'm very happy with that for me. I recently decided to add a strop board instead of just using a standard leather strop because it's easy to use while sitting on my couch watching television. for me this makes it easy and convenient to strop all my knives even some of my cheaper knives that I normally wouldn't spend the time on.

Great for home. I use the same stuff. I also have the white compound. Which brings up a mirror finish. Out in the woods I put some white compound on the sewn welt area of my sheaths. You can touch up a knife without carrying anything else. Picked that one up from Allan season 1 winner. You're never without a strop.

While butchering, I had a flex strop hanging at my waste, along with my diamond stone. When meat did not give like warm butter, it was time to hit the diamond stone and then strop it. Quick, easy, back to work. I've only used one stiff strop when I sharpened blades for other people, yes, way back in the day. This one looks nice to try. :)

It works for knives that aren't that blunt to begin with - otherwise you would be there for hours trying to sharpen it. Chips in edge are out of the question. I always use a stone if knife is pretty blunt and then use a Steel (same as stropping) - otherwise just few strokes on Steel

My favorite is the Bark River White because unlike the green chromium and the black, the White is super fine for touching up a blade that I've finished freehanding up to an 8000 grit Waterstone. The 12,000 grit in the White compound really makes the edge super refined. I've always viewed stropping as a way to finish off any hanging junk on the edge after I done everything I can to eliminate the burr/wire edge.

Pretty impressive sharpening skills Chris. I tried my hand at the whole knife sharpening/honing thing a while back, & I really really sucked at it. Each attempt yielded an even less sharp & scratched to hell knife. So, I don't do that anymore. I'll either ask my oldest son to, or I'll toss the dulled knife in a random direction & buy another. BTW - I won't be able to do that with my BR Grizzly as I bought only the one & they won't make more for months - it's due here tomorrow, which means I'll get to swing it around shirtless all weekend! 3V holds a great edge, & honestly, most of my swinging will be in front of a full length mirror in our master BR, so I should be covered. Thanks for another great vid!

Personally, note this MHO.... I would never use anything like a worksharp on my knives. The only time I grind or remove a significant amount of metal from a blade is if I am reprofiling it. I either hone, steel or strop my knives. I have had to remove a couple of chips from a blade, but I used a combination of diamond stones and water stones. Why, well I am never in a hurry when it comes to my knives. I do not want to accidently destroy the temper in my blades. Also, if you keep grinding on the blade you will soon end up with a sliver of metal instead of a knife. That being said... This system seems like a good option for keeping your knives in shape. With a little practice you will have shaving sharpe knives and can easily keep them that way. Thanks for the review Chris.
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 7 жыл бұрын
+Levi Caddell The worksharp isn't using grits like knifemakers shape with. It's not going to heat the blade or screw up the temper. Internet myth started by people that never used one. Been using them for years. On FIXED blades. Smaller stuff you just need to be more careful. I've blunted a tip a couple times, but that was my mistake/ being careless
@levicaddell1077
@levicaddell1077 7 жыл бұрын
+PREPAREDMIND101 You are right in that I have never used a Worksharp... I guess I never felt I needed one. I have made and reprofiled a few knives using grinding wheels and belt sanders, but that is different from keeping your knife sharp. Perhaps I am just too old school. lol Time to go talk on the ham radio for a bit.... later Chris....
