Mountain biked that exact area since the late 80’s and rode the Rattlesnake Enduro several times. Know the area very well. Actually recognized some of the trails and road crossings.

My clutch faded in 5 exactly like yours. Old or inferior grade fluid will "boil" a little and make vapor bubbles in the system causing the performance to fade, eventually to nothing. I felt my engagement point moving towards the grip and tried to ride without it as much as I could so when I had to have it I still had just enough to get through. That said, I finished P11 in 50B so our speeds are a little different. I also did not ride 6 so after getting through 5 the clutch cooled, the vapor condenses back to DOT4 and the clutch was normal again. So, new fluid with a solid bleed is on the shop agenda before the next race. AND... Michael Anderson is the gentleman who helped you out. Trust me, it's a God thing!

My pass call is to clutch in and give 'em some revs. I can't always hear people going "woo, woo, woo" behind me. But I've also been told, "just hold your line, the faster rider will pass you." So, I don't know what to do anymore. :) Also, I LOVE these enduro / hare scramble videos. I think the hard enduro stuff is kinda lost on me.

At the end of the race when I'm getting tired and the pros are passing me I just dive off through the woods as they come by. 😅 In the beginning I don't get passed .

Always entertaining so keep em videos coming for us old farts. I remember when I use to race enduros the night AFTER the enduro was always brutal. Every “oh shit” moments I had or trees I missed was just the opposite when I closed my eyes and fell asleep. I’d hit EVERYTHING, be flailing and crashing like crazy in bed. I know the wife got smacked a few times and would wake up hollering at me. Good times!!!

Never understood why American Enduro trail is so tight. I think it makes us slow relative to European riders. I know they have some tight sections in Enduro GP but they also have ultra fast tests and even Enduro cross and Motocross in their events.

On the subject of pass calls. A few years ago when graeme jarvis was the top dog and Billy bolt was still the wild up and comer the difference in their pass calls was hilarious. Graeme would come by shout excuse me and then say cheers as he went passed, when Billy was coming through it was just rev limiter and then he was gone

You need to flush the clutch fluid about every 6 months.

Your clutch problems are related to your lack of maintenance on your bike, the same thing can and will happen to your brakes also, if your racing you should be changing out all your fluids on a regular and more frequent basis, that's why your clutch fluid was black, it's a PITA but essential to keep things operating like they are supposed to, you will always discover these shortcomings when racing because that's when you obviously are pushing your bike much harder, it sucks to be riding and feeling really good during a race and end up with poor results because of mechanical issues that could have easily been prevented.

Changing clutch & brake fluids are overlooked by most. Even in cars & trucks. It’s a must IMO, with the correct tools it’s not bad to do.
