I’m jonesing for an Aquis! Speaking of quirky, I bought an Oris Divers Sixty-Five (the discontinued one with the reverse-applied numerals) 2 months ago and it’s been on my wrist, night and day, as if superglued onto me by Satin! I absolutely love it and can’t seem to get it off of my wrist for more than a few minutes. It runs -.5/d consistently (that’s point 5 sec/day). I’m thinking of getting an Oris tattoo. And this a used watch from Bob’s. Still, an Aquis could turn my head....easily.
@martinwild91923 жыл бұрын
I think you’ve been unduly harsh on the shortcomings of this watch. While your observations are undoubtedly correct, for £2.7k something has to give. The clasp did look a little flimsy but it’s more than enough to secure the watch to a wrist, so no issue. I give the Aquis a large thumbs-up

A lot of movements have same issue with setting the minute hand. But with one major difference - you can do it right in Oris, while it is impossible in others... I had these issues with Piaget Polo S, Carties Santos Large, new IWC chrono 41mm, Hermes H08, Breguet 5157, ,Blancpain Bathyscaphe 38mm, Patek Neptune... And there was no way to set it without having minutes hand jump.

Especially in covid times. 5 days power reserve. That's just nuts. My SPB149 does three days and I find that refreshing. And the thing that I think you didn't talk about much: It has a 10. year. warranty. That's value packed right there. Let's see if my wife finds it as great a value as I do.

The Aquis range has always been a beautiful watch dating back before it even called the Aquis, in fact even further back to the early 2000s when it was the TT1. Over the years the case and dial have been slightly refined and modernised. The bracelet however is a different story. The pre Aquis bracelet was wider, thicker, more curvy, more masculine and just had an overall greater presence. The present bracelet looks like the under nourished child of the previous. That apart and regardless of movement, they are a beautiful piece.
@joelopic2 жыл бұрын
Perfectly stated. I've been preaching the exact same words for years. The reason they did it was to save weight. As you know the aquis and pre Aquis can get a bit heavy. I in fact purchased a titanium bracelet for my 43.5 clipperton island. Much more comfy. I also have a 46mm titan and a tt1. Irresistible.

I agree. In the early mid 2000s, oris released a masterpiece called the "Titan small seconds" in titanium. It has a matt finish on the bezel and dial, very curvy bracelet and a wider clasp. What I like the best is how much better the small date window looks in the 41.5 size. For me it's an eyesore on the 44 almost as an afterthought. But here it's just better proportioned. It looks like it was actually designed by measuring the indices with the chapter ring. I'll buy mine in green.

I owned a previous iteration of this watch with the sellita movement..... It was definitely a decent watch at the old price point..... Not sure now (well maybe)...... I didn't like it that it was so shiny, the bezel didn't line up that perfectly and the movement did actually stop working at one point....although it did take me 8 weeks or more (and it cost me £230) to get a rubber strap, they are AMAZING.... It's amazing at how compact both sizes look on your wrist. That is actually quite helpful, as I've got an 18.4cm wrist, and the 43mm clearly would work quite well on it. I do wish it had more flexibility as far as changing out straps, as I do change them out on my current main diver. As you said, an adjustable clasp would be nice. However, I don't think it realistically would add all that much to the price, compared to everything else. There's engineering cost, but the cost to manufacturer cannot be that high (maybe it would be more for a Pelagos type system). That blue is just gorgeous, so I may have to get over the strap thing.
@frankskabopolis7503 жыл бұрын
Another great vid. A while back I convinced myself I could pull off the 43.5mm version but ended up selling it. This new cal in 41.5mm is tempting me back. Have to say I find it slightly odd that Oris seem to be sending these out for review on the (not very nice) bracelet. To me, the Aquis makes so much more sense on the rubber strap. It's a great holiday watch and gives an affordable Aquanaut/Yacht-Master sort of vibe. As has been pointed out already, there is a brushed version. Hopefully they do a brushed version with the new movement.

Speaking of quirky movements: I bought an IWC Portugieser earlier this year (new, from AD), with their new in-house movement. Neither the sales person nor the instruction booklet bothered to mention, that you wind this watch... "backwards" (counter-clockwise). Imagine my heartbeat when I tried to wind it at home (before asking google) and the seconds hand wouldn't budge. Great video by the way, as always. There is a matte version of the Aquis. I know because I have one! I think it may not be available now, but it was available in black only (the ceramic bezel is also matte) and appears more like a charcoal grey than jet black. The case and bracelet are fully brushed and the only polished part is the bezel surround (and the hands / hour markers). I tried the blue version on instore, but it was way too shiny for my liking. The matte version is much more ‘tool’ like. I also bought a black rubber strap for it, which is superb.

I think you hit the nail on the head in regards to the integrated bracelet, Adrian. That was a big part of my decision in going for a Captain Cook instead of an Aquis. Similar case size, similar specs (The Captain Cook has no lume pip on the bezel, but I'm only diving during the day), similar aesthetics, but you can't slap an aftermarket strap on the Aquis. The bracelet on the Aquis looks great and is comfortable, sure, but the same goes for the beads of rice bracelet on a Captain Cook, and I still switch that out for a rubber or nylon strap once or twice a week.

Have they jumped the price by £1200 or am I mis-remembering? If I'm right... does an in-house movement (with an admittedly brilliant power reserve) justify the jump in cost on a watch that doesn't have much brand recognition (outside of watch afficionados)?

Love this watch especially with the blue dial. Love ORIS. Great alternative to a Tudor. Would like to see some improvements though. Don't need AR coating on top surface of sapphire. What was ORIS thinking? Don't need a bracelet extension. How many people are going to do anything more than desk dive or swim with it? Clasp needs to be improved, and you should have ability to adjust the clasp with out a tool. If that meant extra cost, so be it. I would also love to see a matt version. I think this polished version maybe a scratch magnet.

I love my Aquis. Its my holiday watch and never leaves my wrist. Swimming. Showering. Just leave it on.
