Just to clarify Adrian lives in the UK and in UK only both Listing and Purchase are free of charges. But only if a Private seller not a Business seller. What you need to Know is EBay are now reporting all sellers who sell over £1700 or 30 items to the Inland revenue so they can monitor income tax and capital gains tax. If IR decides you’re trading they will expect you to declare this on your tax returns. The big difference is are you selling personal items or buying to trade and a string of high value watch sales will definitely attract their attention. Sell £20000 worth of watches on eBay and I bet alarms start flashing all round IR head office.

I thought it was odd without any questions first and in my listing I pointed out no buyers with less than 25 feedbacks. When I checked the buyers feedback, there was only 1 from 2019. Ebay via their overseas help desk assured me it was safe. I wasnt convinced. I asked buyer to set up a call. He offered ID, but I can tell you now the ID and the caller didnt match so I immediately cancelled the sale. NO way, Im posting my watch off out of my sight. It could be a scam or money laundering. I decided to sell a couple of my Rolexes this year because I live in London and just don’t feel safe wearing them, now I have exceeded the private seller monetary threshold and eBay has closed my account (after 20+ years) unless I register as a business. It’s fine to buy watches on eBay but selling is now painful. I used to rotate my watch collection in exactly this way but eBay has now made this impossible. I guess we can thank the government for squeezing every penny they can out of us so they can waste it on global virtue signalling.

CAUTIONARY TALE: I sold a watch on eBay a few years back. Buyer opened the package, took the watch out and said the package was empty. eBay refunded the buyer before the post office could do an investigation and I was out a watch plus the cost of shipping. Also this video is false, you still pay between 9 and 15% on watch sales.

When going vintage vintage, I think a dress watch is a safe option since one doesn't ask much from a watch worn in formal settings. In comparison to Patek, and other very expensive brands, I think that a good IWC with the superb 89 movement can offer a lot for the money. A Zenith with the 135 movement could also be very special. I you prefer a more recent watch, the manual wound 36mm A. Lange & Söhne 1815 is certainly very tempting, but you can find a good Chopard LUC first generation (also 36mm) for less money, and with an interesting micro-rotor movement with smaller bridges that open the view.

Ad Shmad. A man's gotta eat, good on him. As to the choices of replacement. Why is it most watch guys seem to forget that dressing is a package. Pick something that accents your style, Adrian's picks all have merit, but ad dress watch if you're never in a Tux' is just plain odd. Like a fedora with flip flops. Sports casual, sweaters and t shirts the vintage Heuer has it in spades. to be honest I had the vintage Tudor but my 1982/ 5513 is another level wear and vintage prices are very reasonable ( so if it's a vintage sub stick to the 5513 in my opinion ) The Bundeswehr Heuer is a different look but these watches where also refitted by Sinn so either would work depending on price. The ghost trashed look is for those older experienced guys to wear, other wise to me it's like faux patina on a watch (if your in you're under 50 years old) the trashed watch is your faux patina. Get a good condition vintage piece and wear it for 20 years and it'll grow to be an honest part of you. Like the explorer 2 you broke and love for all the right reasons. Look forward to seeing which way you eventually go.

Agree, don’t drop 5 figures on a watch you’re gonna wear once a year… if you still have that turn o graph, IMO that doubles up as a dressier watch, especially on a vintage strap, for when you need it. I think you want the Tudor… My first step into watches was the BB58 but I moved it on for a Neo vintage ‘endgame’ 79190 - a 25 year old watch that is still massively wearable but has 5 digit Rolex vibes. You have the Kermit, so I imagine you’d want older (snowflake)…

Knowing the watches you already have I would first go for a great dress watch and then collect the other two. Your IWC and your dads watches are the closest to dress watches from memory so there is a gap there. I have a significant birthday soon so am going to treat myself to an IWC Portugueiser chronograph with gold hands and indices then. After that, as and when, I will look to buy a pre owned Longine big eye or a preowned diver - Seiko, Tudor, Brietling or omega. At least that is the plan. Good luck in your own search! BW Peter

I have stayed modern not vintage. Stayed away from Rolex due to the attitude of the sales people in the past. I buy from independent watch dealers who offer decent service experience only.

Well this was timely. I was just thinking about listing my BBPro and didn’t want to pay fees on eBay even though my reach would most likely be better than Facebook marketplace lol I’ll have to check this out

Imagine seeing those photos on eBay! I’d question the authenticity of that sale!!! Hahahaha

Looking at the fees they say 11.5% for less than 2k selling and 2% for more than 2k, where is the free fee?

Ebay is great -- I just scooped a gen2 "Skyfall" Planet Ocean and years ago a Speedmaster. Both out of Japan at monster discounts plus 0% interest across 24 months with PayPal. Nope, I'm not sponsored, but glad to see Ebay going for KZbin press....more watches will pop up for sale driving down costs so I can buy more 🤙

Holy **** i just sold my omega seamester 300m on Ebay last month and ebay took a whopping 800 usd out of a 3.800 usd sales price. Talk about bad timing on my part.

I have sold a watch recently and the buyer removed the red tag that says do not remove. Then he had it for sale on eBay for £500 more , when i asked him if he could give me some feedback for me and my eBay account . This is what happened he then opened up a return saying that the watch was not as described and it came all the way back to me. Luckily i had held onto his £3250 or i could have been in the poo 💩. So if you do sell on eBay make sure you have had your feedback and your return date is passed. In the pasted i used to give a one month return time,all this ment was that someone could wear it for a month then return the watch and that’s an other story. I only do two weeks return time now so l leave my cash in my eBay account for two weeks and then we are good to go. Hope this helps Dave 👍

I can vouch for the satisfaction a Tudor 9411 is likely to bring. I've had mine for 8 years now and never get sick of it. I bought it as it was without a bracelet but a year or so ago I was able to buy a new bracelet (still jangly) direct from my Tudor AD who sourced from the Rolex service centre. I'm in Australia so it was $1,100 AUD which I thought was very fair all things considered. I did originally enquire about the 94150 Rolex bracelet which was likely what mine came on, but that was about double the price for essentially the same construction quality. Anyway, thought I'd share as since sourcing the bracelet I've found a whole new appreciation for the watch although I do still switch back to NATO's from time to time.

The UK is a tiny fraction of what eBay would lose if they stopped fees on personal sales in the US. If eBay stops fees in the US they will lose a copious amount of $. It’s very hard for me to imagine this experiment comes here.
@Casa10003 күн бұрын
I think in the Uk eBay realised they were losing a load of business to Vinted - a predominantly clothing marketplace that passes the fees to the buyer and not the seller. This is their way of stamping their foot down on that, in the UK at least.

Any Valjoux 88 in 18K but some nicer ones due to elegant lugs such as Mathey Tissot, Record Geneve and Guinand. These will be very hard to find but reasonably priced. Incredible watches that share movement to > USD 1M Patek piece sold at auction. They are triple calendar moonphase chronographs, very dressy, please this instead of the Tag, much more special. Would also love to see some content on the Valjoux 88 as it is severely lacking.
