Am I the only one who feels there's always been something odd going on towards Becca...? like somehow she was a bit aside, in the shadow, while Lauren and Alyssa acting like that was totally fine? I felt many times Becca was kind of uncomforable while staging... they talk about Becca leaving in such a totally fine fine way but something's is somehow still showing like they're leaving something out about this from the public eye

It wouldn't shock me. It tends to happen in families where two become very close (usually true older two but not always) and the third is left out of the loop, or falls off. It's possible that tension just kept rising and Becca eventually decided there were other things she wants to pursue

Maybe she's just an introvert, like they said, and she just never liked the spotlight. Sometimes, not everything is as dramatic as we make it out to be.

I can relate to BarlowGirl on the subject of marriage and dating because I'm a similar age to them and I'm not married either. But I feel like they kind of danced around the topic, talking about how much they love being single and how busy they are instead of being brutally honest about how difficult it is to meet someone in church, and how the purity culture of the 90s/2000s messed things up for people by making dating seem dirty. EDIT: I would strongly encourage anyone who still supports the purity movement to look at the fruit it produced. You cannot define purity culture as a great thing if the fruit it produced is overwhelmingly rotten.

@@Damsel_in_This_Dress Look into sanctification and holiness, I like purity culture because it falls into line with these. It didn't make dating "seem dirty," it rightly called into question some things many of us had an almost casual attitude about. I'm not however talking about the human side that comes in and muddies that all up but it isn't unique to purity culture as it also happens within groups taking on sanctification and holiness.
@Damsel_in_This_Dress
@Damsel_in_This_Dress Жыл бұрын
@@Captain_Of_A_Starship You didn't say anything about your reasons for supporting a movement which has emotionally scarred hundreds of people and been responsible for people leaving the church, other than to say that you like purity culture for its connotations with holiness. That's romanticizing. Do you know of any real life stories from Christians (current or former) who were affected by it?? Many Christians were badly affected by following purity culture, some of them catastrophically. Staying pure was about being rewarded with marriage and a fulfilling sex life in the end (even though there's no biblical basis for this). It caused so much fear, guilt, and shame about sex, sexuality and relationships. If you were female, you were taught that your body was the enemy: an object of desire or loathing which only belonged to your future husband or to God, but not to you. I mean, purity culture placed the burden and responsibility of men's sexual sin on the shoulders of adolescent girls. Think about that. I find it interesting that contemporary worship songs praise God for setting us free, for the amazing power of God's love, grace and salvation, and yet this is simply not echoed in purity culture. Nothing about 'purity culture' was about living life in the freedom of God's light and love - it was about living in fear. I know that BarlowGirl were heavily influenced by Harris' books and purity culture as a whole. They liked the idea of group dates. They thought that if a guy was interested in them, then he should talk to their father first. They wrote a song about it called 'Average Girl', about shunning dating and waiting for the man they would marry instead. They once said in an interview that they believed that God had one perfect man for them, so they didn't have to search for him, because when the time was right, God would bring them together. I wonder what they believe now? It sounds like you are one of the fortunate ones who escaped the turmoil, hurt and confusion that purity culture unleashed. Count yourself blessed. Many others didn't.

No offense to you but if you're having trouble finding someone, it doesn't mean these girls are too. Maybe they really are happy where they are. Most men love Godly women. So finding a companion for the girls is not a problem. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians exhorts those who can stay single to do so. Because marriage is littered with problems. These girls' stance is scriptural. Not every unmarried woman is unhappy. Unhappiness ages you. These girls have aged gracefully, on the contrary. Believe it or not, marriage is NOT a priority for some girls. Normalize being happy for women who are happy without a man on their arm. If you want to get married to a good man, pray about it. Don't project your insecurities on them.

Just ran into this. Thank you for doing this. I remember the day that Lyssa posted their goodbye like it was yesterday. I cried that entire week. I wanted them to be my first concert sooooo bad. They influenced me in so many ways. 10 years later, they're still one of my top 10 favorite artists (and I have almost 100 favorites). Please, please make new music! Even if it's just live recordings from your piano room, I'd love to hear new music! I honestly believed I'd never hear new music from you guys, but now I have hope that one day, we'll hear new music! The day this happens, my tears will not be due to sadness, but because of joy!

This is so weird. I was reminiscing a week ago and remembering festivals I did security at and all of the amazing musicians I met. I am sure it was the same day that I did personal security for the Girls and Jeremy Camp in 2006. I found this video and it came out roughly the same time I was reminiscing. I can't wait to see where this leads next. (I did see Barlow Girl three more times after that.)

Oh my gkodness! I don't know how I didn't know this happened! BarlowGirl helped me more than I could ever explain! While listening to their song Never Alone for the very first time, I had my first ever God experience. I felt His arms wrap around me and then a huge weight lift off my chest. I felt Him tell me that I was going to be okay. That He was there, and always had been. I met many of my good friends through them and SoundPost. I was devastated when they announced they were stepping away from music. I felt like my lifeline, or my connection with God was going away. (I know now that it didn't.) And now, I'm married with 2 kids and am so unbelievably excited that they're doing music again! I hope they will release some and I pray that God uses them again through their music. I just know how much they helped me, I want more people to experience it. 💛 Thank you for this!!!

I just stumbled on this video after recently introducing my oldest daughter to @barlowgirl music. She just turned 10 and recently gave her heart to Jesus. The song #NeverAlone has stuck with her. I believe it helps her to understand the constant presence of the Holy Spirit as part of her being. I hear her singing it in the shower in the morning. All this to say, that I'm elated to hear that you girls are starting to write again!!! Praise the Lord!! We need a wave of Christ lead female influencers in music and social media! I'm looking forward to seeing how God leads. My prayers are with you and many blessings to you @barlowgirl! #BarlowGirl

Doing a bit of reminiscing from youth ministry days 2 decade's past, I literally went from Superchick's "Barlow Girl" to THE Barlow Girl's "Never Alone" to bumping headlong into this interview in a matter of 20 minutes. We often ask ourselves "whatever happened to?" and wonder what God is doing in an artist's or band's lives in our current time. This was great. I wish I had the vitality of these two, and to have a lifelong "soul mate" you connect with this deeply is one of this earthly life's greatest blessings.

It was way too amazing to see you two again. That level of hurt, rejection, and betrayal is one I know personally. I completely understand needing to keep things private. I wish I could sit down with y’all personally and share our moments of struggle and growth. I found myself resonating with David. When I read the Psalms they became more real than ever. I felt his deepest pain and bleeding cries to the Lord. I understood those moments of joy and forgiveness. Those moments of let there be justice, Lord. Those moments of I know You are faithful but right now I feel alone. It’s difficult to go through, but to know we were not walking through this situation alone was so good. I don’t want to deal with this level of hurt and betrayal again, but if it brings me closer to Him…then may it be for His glory.

We need to do this where are they now more often. Let's go way way back and find Guardian, White Cross, White Hart, Geoff Moore and the distance, the kry, code of ethics, bleach, All Star United, and the list goes on😎 By the way I may be 41 years old but I enjoyed the music of barlowgirl, even if I was the oldest guy in the audience.

Pyschological burnout. It is all good. I have been through it plenty of times playing music. Yes I have felt rejected plenty of times by assholes and trollers. You keep on fighting. People will regret their hate
