Hi mate I just stumbled across your channel, Your opening statement is spot on, It is the exact reason I am doing a roadstoration on a couple of AU XR's, An AU S1 XR8 for myself and an AU S3 XR6 which was my mates he bought for the same reasons, He passed away not long after buying it so I started that first, its almost ready for a blue slip then I will start the XR8. I have to learn everthing I do so it takes a long time but I do use it as a garage tinkering project, mental health and in someways just a break from reality for a little while, i will be subscribing to watch this build.

I like this story. 19yrs to buy it. Allan moffat edition, & still registered. Our story, my late mums xc gxl sedan. Had about 44yrs now. No where near rare like yours & it's metallic blue. It was near new when she got it, & will never get sold outside our family, still has mums home made dash mat & extra outside big mirror. Xa xb xc v8's are worth hanging on to because they're spacious & comfortable too. Dad had a red xe 6cl Fairmont for a while, it was a good car too except a squeaky front end we never solved.

I would definitely like to see you doing the restoration on this one. I remember walking past the Ford dealership on my way home from school and seeing all of the "new" XC models lined up along the front - the yellow and black was my favourite colour scheme. Grab yourself some rusted solutions - rust gel to help remove the rust from the pitted areas after you sand off the paint, it works well. I thinks Howard Astill has used it on his channel and goes through the process. Keep up the good work. 👍
