A steam cleaner works wonders on mold without the harshness of chemicals. Use it in all the crevices of the dashboard then just use an air compressor and blow it dry.

My dad used to own one just like it. Same year and of course same motor. Plus it was black too I'm not sure about the interior. You guys have not only brought this beautiful back to life. But in a crazy way it's like I came back to life with my dad again. I was very young back then. As a matter of fact I'm the youngest on both sides of my siblings. Back then gasoline was like .27 cents a gallon. Unfortunately I lost my dad when I was only 13 yrs old. But let me tell you I spent a lot of time on this car. I still remember that everytime my dad would get his keys. I would already be sitting in the car waiting to see where we were gonna go. Thanks guys for giving me those wonderful memories again. I suppose you wouldn't want to sell it. Please let me know if we can work something out. 😁👍

Dude, this channel is what the world needs. Seeing motivated folks find and fix up solid old cars like this. Especially with the push towards EV, it's great seeing some big old Detroit steel get back out on the road. I think the way you guys are bringing that car back around has been a pleasure to watch, and the amount of changes you make to it, just with sweat equity alone are cool. This is a real survivor, and can't wait to see what your finished product looks like!

With the wrinkles in the corners of the headliner you can take them out with a hairdryer. Be careful not to concentrate the heat in one area. Move the dryer fairly quickly over the area and don't hold it too close to the headliner. I have done plenty of these. Great job and great to see these old classics being saved.

For the rear seat tops, build a half-cover. Get some red fabric, to cover just the top and hide that tear, because other than that they look almost mint.
@MaxGiganteum Жыл бұрын
Actually, they're heavily faded from what I can see. They should have a much brighter red appearance - compare and contrast against the carpet and you'll see what I mean. Even so, for being 60+ years old, one cannot expect too much and I'd be surprised if you could sit on those seats without the fabric or the vinyl failing quickly. Both materials tend to become brittle over the decades unless the car is extremely well cared for and the car is always parked out of the weather. In any case, your idea of making a loose cover for the torn area is an excellent idea. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum

Love this thing. Not a fan of the patina thing in general but as a stop gap to preserve a car and keep it from rusting further, hell yeah. So long as you treat the rust and make it so it can be stripped down and properly restored at some point in the future, keeping it on the road and enjoying it means more than making it pretty again. Almost all these old cars eventually end up desirable again.

Awesome job on the headliner and carpet! People did not hold onto the 4 door cars and a lot of them are gone, I still think they are cool. We use to take out the seats of a real nasty interior and take them down to the car wash and hit them with the high pressure soap and water. We would let them dry out and the seat turned out pretty good. The whole car looks good.
@MaxGiganteum Жыл бұрын
I would never use a pressure washer on seats... but a bucket of hot, soapy disinfectant along with some elbow grease before rinsing and a vacuum with a shop vac can work wonders. Don't forget a reasonably quick dry in the Summer heat via a fan aimed into the back to thoroughly dry them out before applying appropriate dressings for the vinyl. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum

Dude, the mouse pee and dropping are everywhere in that car, in all the cracks, nooks and crannies, seats, etc. After you stripped the car you should have washed out the interior, then towel it dry. Then sprayed the whole interior down with "Odor Mute" and let that dry completely; the mouse odor disappears! Oder Mute is a pinkish powder (looks like "Cool Aid"). When mixed with water and sprayed on a surface with a plant mister it completely neutralizes organic odors. It does NOT cover up an odor, it chemically breaks it down!! They use the stuff in dog kennels. I got turned onto it when my puppy was getting sprayed by skunks; she hadn't learned about "the cat with the white stripe" yet. Odor Mute works UNBELIVEABLE!! My Neighbors inherited a beautiful low miles Honda Civic from her late 90's mother. Nice car, the only problem was her mother wore WAY too much perfume; way, way, way too much perfume! The poor woman's sense of smell was aged too apparently; the car just reeked! Maybe she had an "accident" inside the car and doused it with Channel; who knows? They tried everything to kill the perfume smell. They washed the entire interior down repeatedly, aired it out for weeks, nothing worked. They were about to sell the car, and I told them to try Odor Mute; it worked perfectly; I don't even think they had to spray it twice. Odor Mute is trucking unbelievable, anyone who has used it will tell you the same thing. Check it out: www.amazon.com/Odormute-101-Unscented-3-oz/dp/B0041LFVN0/ref=sr_1_2?crid=31SU5P9LS3T2Y&keywords=odor+mute&qid=1661989190&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=oder%2520mute%2Cpets%2C65&sr=1-2 You're welcome! Pass the word.
