I love the Top Quad series and can't wait for the battle of the mid-range sport quads. It reminds me of the old days when magazines like Dirt Wheels and ATV Sport were a thing. They would always do shootouts between the various quads available back then. Haven't seen anything like that again until you started doing Top Quad 👍👍

I got two brand new Lakotas in 1997 and still have them both. They have been rock solid over the years. They are both almost completely original. The only parts that have worn out over the years are the rear tires once, batteries several times, and clutch plates once. They need new chains now though, as they're loose and I'm out of adjustment. Can't argue with that after 26 years! Obviously I've done engine oil/filter and air filter changes.

That’s cool you picked up a Lakota 300. I’ve had two of them. One was a 2002 that picked up for a couple hundred bucks, fixed it up, and flipped it. The other one I still have. It needs a ton of work so it’s been on the backburner for a lil while now. I think it’s either a 2002 or 3. They are a great lil machine. Absolutely great for beginners. Yours is in such excellent condition. Blows my mind.

Love it. Just picked one of these up about 2 months ago, had been wanting for years for a fun easy trail machine. FYI, a Yamaha raptor/banshee/warrior rear hubs will fit on so you can go to a 4/115 pattern Aluminum wheel , and the front pattern on these is a 4/144 so you can also go the the same model Yamahas front wheel and go to a aluminum front wheel. Then you’ll have a lighter front/rear end and more tire options

My daughter rode a Honda 250EX for a few years and loved everything about it except the very stiff rear suspension . A couple years ago I bought her a Lakota 300 because it had longer travel suspension front and rear compared to the Honda . She loves the improved ride and I like the fact that the front end is heavier than the Honda so she is a lot less likely to loop out hillclimbing . It shifts stiff especially when the engine is cold . It was a roach when I bought it . I've done a top end , swingarm bearings , tires , carb work , air filter , rear fender , heated grips , clutch , battery , reinforced the battery hold-down , CDI module , chain and sprockets , and I took your advice and put a nice aftermarket aluminum front bumper from a 400EX on it !

My cousin had a 1989 Honda 250X. All great machines. I pretty sure a few friends had blasters as well. I just remember liking my ATV because it had racks but it was not sporty enough and thought the Lakota would be perfect performance and some had a rear rack installed which would have been perfect since I used to load up camping gear on the weekends and take off into the woods.

Speaking of barn finds I just paid $500 for a 2009 Honda 300x that sat for 10 years in a shed and just needed a new carrier and axle (which it came with new ones) changed the oil, fuel, and spark plug and put a fresh battery in it and I kid you not it started within 4 Cranks of the engine!

The first thing I thought of was power shifting by holding the shifter all the way up , revving high, and then dropping it in gear. My Yamaha YFM225 would do it and suffered no ill affects. The Kawasaki 250 2-stroke Tecate 3 is more fun to dump the clutch on though...I had the parts to finish an 86 KX500 Tecate 3, but was not as well funded and as skilled a builder. I wish I had never sold them all (6).
