I remember that view...I had a '70 Chevelle...memories...had to sell her in a bad year...kids gotta eat before speed parts are bought...sad thing is that 6 months later I landed a new contract...I asked the guy I sold her to if we could come to a deal...I sold her for 3500 dollars and he hits me at 10k...I came up to 4500 dollars, that's a thousand dollar profit for doing absolutely nothing...the car wasn't worth any more than that because it was far from complete but nostalgia and fairness let me go to 5k and he stuck at 10k...I said he must have another offer for more money...good enough...shook his hand and said my offer still stands and wished him luck on the deal...I went by there the other day and she was still there...I told him that I would give 2500 to tow her home...it had been sitting in a field and was much worse for the wear...he told me that when the guy who was going to buy her backed out after seeing her up close, he was too embarrassed to call me and accept my offer...so my(his) car sat so long that the frame was damn near rusted into...the interior was 70% gone and my offer went down another 1k and this damn fool hits me at a 5k...I didn't even say goodbye when I climbed in my truck to leave...I don't really care because I am chasing a '65 GTO owned by a friend and negotiations are goig well...who's cuttin' f'n onions in here...bye y'all, chase your dream car and have fun with it...peace....

Definitely! Even if you had a museum piece, you're almost obliged to let the dragon loose every now and then. I understand they're not making any more of them but I would buy one (if I happened to fall over backwards into a pile of cash) to drive it, not to keep it covered up in my controlled environment vault of a garage.

About 5 decades ago (yes, I am that old!), my HS buddy had an LS6 454 450hp 70 Chevelle with M22 and 331 posi gears. It was an all cast iron 454, with 11.0 to 1 compression and factory aluminum intake manifold and 2 1/4" primarys headers with cut outs just past the collectors. His was Hugger Orange with white stripes and had the F41 suspension package giving it 1 1/8" front sway bar, very stiff front springs, and a 7/8" rear bar under the 12 bolt posi rear end. It sat slightly low in the rear with stock springs, so it would really plant the BFG T/As on stock 8" SS wheels. As I recall from our many excursions, the Cowl Induction flap was always held flush to the hood with a vacuum diaphragm until the vacuum dropped at WOT. At WOT, the Cowl Induction was spring loaded to pop open once the vacuum signal disappeared. It was open when not running, but as soon as that LS6 started (even with it's very low and lopey idle vacuum!), the cowl door closed, and only opened again when the throttle blades on the stock 780 Holley double pumper went past a carb vacuum passage. Once the vacuum signal was lost the Cowl Induction flap would open, giving additional air to that fire breathing 454 Rat Motor! Maybe your vacuum diaphragm is leaking. Sorry, tl,dr. and you were likely already aware. OG from Idaho Love your channel, PGN!

Thanks for sharing, brother! It's amazing what you could order from the factory back then, not just with SS Chevelles but with pretty much any manufacturer, '62 -'72. I'm a little younger than you and your buddy but these cars could still be had in great shape for

My 64 Chevelle SS wasn't quite a barn find but it was outside a radiator shop in TN. I later found his resto was terrible as I spent $40k restoring it. That was in 2002 and I still have it. One of the nicest 64 Chevelles around. 350 V8, 200'4R. 4wdb, Dakota Digital dash, Billet Spec one belt drive system, Monte Carlo seats, Quiet Ride insulation and sound pkg, Billet Spec Fast Lane rims with Cooper Cobra tires, American Wire kit, Red paint, Red interior, smoked windows, 3 point seatbelts, custom trunk, Eddie Motor Sports polished hood and trunk hinges. Aluminum radiator. MSD Ignition. Many little things too.

I'm looking at a '65 Chevelle 2 door wagon, 283 3 tree... serious project. I'd build it with a 327 375FI, 3 tree w overdrive, and leave the patina. Solids over clattery 30 30 Duntov... Does it get any better???

No other mass produced muscle car compares to a 1970 LS6 car, I mean nothing. Enough power / torque to rotate the earth. I rode in 2 different (almost new) examples of those when I was a young teenager. Unbelievable. I've owned 18 1970 SS's but could never have enough $$$ to get into an original LS6........ it's an unrequited love

What did you do to the car did you pull the engine and put all new gaskets and front and rear main seal or did you do nothing but clean it up from sitting all them years I would be real surprise if the engine don`t start leaking from the front and rear main seal after sitting for so long I bought a 1971 340 Duster about 10 years ago and it sat for 25 to 30 years and once I started driving it the engine started leaking like crazy so instead of putting rear main seal in a bottle I bought a overhaul kit and pulled the engine and redid every seal and gasket including the valve seals and it still does not leak a drop but it only sits for 6 months tops over the winter and then I drive it every weekend but the thing sitting for a long time drys up the seals and they just leak like crazy.

ah the view from inside a 70! nothing against M22s. but id shelve that thing and put the tremec tkx in it. best thing i ever did to my 70 totally worth it! my car is way more fun and the tkx will handle the torque all day every day and you can slam the gears as fast as you can move the shifter!

Great car, not so great test drive. This car needs to be given a bit more rip. What did it get up to during this test? All of 3800 RPM? I'm not saying we need a 100-yard long burnout, but some roll-on thunder would be appreciated. Also find somebody that can shift faster than my grandfather.
