Plenty of thinking/debating yet to do. I would consider eliminating the trench and pouring 4 - 2'X2'X18"deep steel reinforced footings, directly under that beam. If you cover the walls with steel, you HAVE to make sure every bale of hay is well cured. The space between the old wood boards allows air movement, even just a little, to keep the hay from overheating. Another reason to separate the hay storage from your shop is fire safety.

Most of the lawn is brown but it will eventually turn around.

It's been weird weather patterns, the rain we got didn't even start 5 miles north but it downpoured here.

With how thin the rye is, I'm waiting till we get some decent growth in September. It won't be quality stuff but will make good stuff to using as a bedding

That trench looks like a gutter to me. I think someone milked a few head in the barn. Personally I would pour concrete for the support beams. I can relate to rain missing us. That looks like clay. If you can afford it gypsum will soften that ground. Thank you.

Surprisingly the ground is fairly soft as the drill had no problem burying seed. The general consensus is busy the trench which will happen along with a few other spots.
