Appreciate the honest review you are all willing to give! Not always the easiest to do but it could save someone a trip if they have similar taste to you all like I do.

Barnaby's in Arlington Heights was a high school hangout back in the late 79's and I ate it regularly. That location was sold and the pizza is different. Yours looks like what we had, though I have no idea if it tasted the same or used the recipe of old but back in the day the crust had a cornmeal component and almost tasted as though the dough had been made with a bit of beer in it. It was really good, with fresh everything. That was long ago.

Had a Barnaby’s in Cal City back in the 70’s…also had a Shakey’s!

Exactly! I live in the NW Suburbs and wonder why people like this place so much? It’s a like a cross between a local Pizza place and Chuck E Cheese.

Yeah probably not worth a long commute but I’d imagine that if you grew up with this pizza , nothing else would quite scratch that itch . Looks very unique.

I grew up in Chicago's Roger Park through the 1970s (we moved to L.A. when I was 10 years old in 1979) and I recall a Barnaby's location closer to us which has possibly closed down since. I had relatives in Northbrook which seemed like it took a lifetime to get to, and I do not recall Barnaby's ever feeling like it took a lifetime to get to. I was recently in Niles, and that may have been the location. Anyways, loved their pizza as a kid which in recollection probably had more to do with the pepperoni they used at that time. I don't know why, but it smelled and tasted heavenly.

Regular pizza has a bread crust, this stuff is more of pie crust--I can tell just looking at it. The raw dough is much stiffer with less gluten built up. That's why they're able to pinch those "ribbons" into the crust. Something you wouldn't be able to do with the elasticity of traditional crust

Have had Barnaby's many times and always great. You guys need to try Q's in Hillside, Colletti's on the Northwest side, and Tree guys in Itasca.

Also in Hillside is Rocky’s. I remember it being a really good Tavern style pizza. Nice and crispy and great ingredients with a ton of cheese. Haven’t been since early 2000s.

Never been to them, seen them around places since the 80's. Seeing this pizza, 2 things immediately throw me, the ribbon crust and the yellow cheese. That crust makes me think of a desert pie, not a pizza, and not the flavor I'm thinking of when I want a thin pizza, so that would turn me away. The yellow cheese tells me it's not 100% mozzarella so that is a NO-GO for me too, need a pizza to be all mozzs or not at all. If you can't give me a good looking basic cheese pizza, I have no hope for any other ingredients like sausage or pepperoni. Need the basics to work, and just the visuals, this pizza would turn me away immediately. Thanks for a great review guys.

I hear Dave Portnoy is looking for some helpers when it comes to reviewing Chicago pizza. Barnaby's (Northbrook) is one of those places that if you grew up on it, you'll always enjoy it.

As a teenager and early adult I used to go to the Barnaby's in Schaumburg. I loved their pizza. Their crust didn't look like that though!

Just remember that all the Barnaby locations are individually owned and they all don’t have the same menu as far as pasta and sandwiches are concerned.

@ChicagoPizzaGuys18 күн бұрын
@@1956fink no I’m not. I think it is a nostalgia thing. I went there as a kid and liked it. I feel it’s a great place to take the family. Grandma likes it, the kids love it and dad could have a beer and mom a glass of wine. I just don’t think it holds up to some of the truly elite pizzas in and around Chicago. The crust was good, very interesting. I would never turn it down! We’re no pizza snobs! Hahaha. Thanks for joining the pizza guys. Feel free to post some reviews!

No flavor on the sausage or the sauce… maybe you’re sick cause this is great tasting pizza period
@ChicagoPizzaGuysАй бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you like it. As we say this is our opinion, what I’m seeing is that if you were brought up on it as a kid you love it. It does have a huge following. Carl gave it an above average rating. I just don’t think it compares to the elite pizzas in the Chicagoland area.
